This is the best UK hotel we have stayed in for years. The staff were friendly and efficient, the hotel was comfortable and individual, the food excellent, great swimming pool, Harveys Best Bitter, really comfotable bed, live piano music at Saturday dinner. Fantastic value for money
The Staff were helpful and welcoming, and the food was excellent, our trip was to see relatives and we all enjoyed an excellent evening meal in the hotel, which was also very relaxing as the lounge and dining room areas are very comfortable. I have no hesitation in recommending a stay at this hotel.
The spa treatments and the jacuzzi. There were no XXXL robes for the slightly larger generation.
I liked range of facilities . The food was average and the room not very clean
My fiance and I stayed in the 'Best Room in the House' room and it really was! Everything about the room screamed luxury. The stylish decor, the enormous bed, the wall mounted flat screen TVs in the bedroom and bathroom, roll top bath, his and hers wash basins and stunning views of the hotel grounds. It was truly luxurious!
freindlyness and informative was the first enjoyment to this stay and the staff so wanting to please you and facility,s were first class and i cant complement the food enough
traditional feel and decor
The food was amazing and very good value for money The service between courses in the restaurant was incredibly slow
Friendly and efficient staff No
i thought it was a lovely hotel and the grounds were beautiful-i will definately stay there again. the bed mattress was horribly squeaky!! really badly so-every time you moved even slightly it groaned and creaked...
Wonderful service, luxurious room, fabulous breakfasts!!!! Owners couldn't do enough for us and pointed in the directions of some great places to eat and shop. Will definitly be going!!!
Excellent rooms and decor. The staff were wonderful. They couldn't do any more to make you feel comfortable. None
Both Tracy-Anne and Lesley made our stay particularly enjoyable, went out there way to look after us, recommended a great Indian restaurant .Their comprehensive knowledge of the area was invaluable for our short stay. The atmosphere, decor and service were of the very best, and the food was not only delicious but presented with great flair. We really enjoyed our stay, returning as refreshed as we could wish.
When you go in you are welcomed and the lovely owner couldnt do anough for you i felt liked i had known her years.. Lovely lady.. The staff lovely too!! Just a warm feel... There wasnt nothing i didnt like it was great i nice rest...
Wonderful service and welcome. Especially cake and coffee. Luxurious but not fussy.
I absolutely loved my stay at Black Rock House. Far better than many 4/5* hotels I have stayed in. Down to the afternoon tea on arrival, the friendly but not in-your-face welcome, the beautiful room, comfortable bed, lovely linen and gorgeous bathroom, complete with soft towels, luxury toiletries and bathrobes and to top it off, the amazing breakfast, I need another excuse to go to Hastings and stay again! My boyfriend and I came to stay after a comedy gig at the local theatre (we live about 30 miles away) and decided to stay over so we could make it a bit more of a treat and I'm so glad we did - you must go and stay there, you won't be disappointed!!!
Welcome and check in. Room gorgeous and beautifully decorated. Lounge and honesty bar was a lovely place to sit. Real fire a bonus. Wonderful breakfast and choices on menu. Absolutely none
Excellent service None
Fantastic breakfasts. Glass of wine on arrival. Owners were extremely helpful. None
The informal yet professional attitude of the proprietors allied to an amazing attention to detail and the best scrambled egg east of the Rockies. Would go again. Will go again !! The weather !!
Staff was very friendly and service was good. This was not a hotel but a bed and breakfast. As such, the accommodations and general amenities were less than one might expect for a place presenting itself as a hotel. Also, when we placed our online reservation we were contacted the next day by the hotel telling us the room had been double booked. This was resolved when the other guest agreed to move to a more expensive room.
Very friendly staff. Beautiful rooms. Full english breakfast served in the room. Easy walk into Hastings Old Town or £3.50 in a taxi. Ate at Lathams, recommended by the hotel and it was lovely. Nothing
I had an amazing romantic stay at the Zanzibar. My room was fantastic, beautiful design features and with the facilities in the room it was like staying at a spa! The staff were really friendly and helpful and I will definately recommend staying to all my friends.
Location of the hotel, beach front views. We stayed in the manhatten, the fixtures and fittings seemed unfinished/poorly installed? Bathroom radiator missing, lights not working in wc (just lamps?) and at high level in lounge. You would exspect for the money the room to be immaculate.
Zanzibar Hotel is really such a unique and special find, from the luxurious themed rooms, to the very friendly staff, making our stay very relaxed and chilled. The shelf filled with DVDs and books to watch and read at your own comfort added a different dimension from those generic hotels.
Clean. Welcoming. Relaxed. Friendly. Quirky contemporary decor. Comfortable bed, Excellent quality of food. Attentive staff. Honesty bar. No real bad points. Even the location away from Old Town is not a serious problem. The soap dispenser in the bathroom needed a little attention - but not a serious problem. Can't fault this hotel.
Communal eating was a goood way to meet people
Fantastic breakfast, in our room, with unspoilt seaview. 3% charge on deposit for a credit card payment. that should have been made clear before us giving payment details.
Superb location, amenities fantastic.
Penthouse suite was great. very roomy, lovely view. All mod cons. Even had duke box in room and Goldfish in the coffee table. Well worth the money for a special weekend.
The staff were very pleasant, and the room was comfortable.
Basic hotel, small room small price but no breakfast. Staff friendly and location very convenient
the sea view from the rooms the hygiene in the room
The hotel room was perfect! Everyone from the staff were very friendly. The hotel services were very good. None.
Great location, friendly staff, the rooms were clean Would be nice if you could have a breakfast too
I liked the location, the view, and the overall area was decent I had to wait outside in the rain for nearly an hour because the front door was locked. They were understaffed and the only person on call was upstairs and couldn't hear me ringing the bell.
Tony, who was working over the weekend, was extremely helpful. He gave very reasonable, clear recommendations. The hotel was well located. Street noise was a bit distracting on Saturday evening.
Excellent place to stay, staff were always helpful. No bad points
Great central location & very helpful nothing
location no carpark. Also we ordered sanwhiches to our room and the bread was stale.
The bed was very comfortable! The room was not up to a good standard of cleanliness
The Staff Heater in bathroom did not work
comfortable, clean, good service for breakfast No Parking other than meter on the side of the road
Staff Attention Only an Indian Restaurant in the Hotel.
Nothing at all the problem of car parking in the area was not dealt with by the Hotel except by a shrug of yhe shoulders - no box of change kept at Reception to help guests caught unawares by the problem. I spent half an hour driving around trying to find somewhere nearer than Rock a anore or the Shite Rock theatre to park. Had to get out of Hotel before 8 o clock to put ticket on car!!! At breakfast a plate of bacon and eggs was brought to me though I had not been asked if I wanted some or all of it. I eat a vegetarian diet and was not offered anything as an alternative. The "bath" towels were a joke size! The room was freezing on entry and the only means of heating a convector which could not really be left on at night as it just dried up the air. I wish I had paid the extra few pounds and gone to the Travel Lodge!
The receptionist was one of the nicest, most helpful people I've come across. She is a real asset to the hotel. The adjoining Indian restaurant was excellent. The bed was really uncomfortable.
clean efficient and friendly
the best part of my stay at the chatsworth was when i booked out. would not ever recommend anyone to stay there, maybe someone i really disliked. staff not informative at all, room not clean, shower room very poor, the room i stayed in had a continus rummble like a generator was running constantly, not very peaceful at all.
The price, and location. There was much noise eminating from somewhere on the ground floor. This was probably outside of the hotel and therefore not in it's control to do anything about. Closing doors of other rooms seem to echo throughout the floor.
The Terrace Bar/Restaurant Pram access and limited parking
We liked the fact its postioned right next to the theatre, so we didnt have far to go for our entertainment. Just a little noisey outside, and in the coridors so we didnt get much of a lie in.
This hotel is almost unique in uk. It has no smoking anywhere in the hotel including all outside dining areas. Apart from being so refreshing, it is in a great location and all of room was in first class condition. Non
The comfort of our room, it had been newly decorated and was perfect. The owners couldnt have been friendlier, the hotel had a nice feel about it although it still needs further decoration. The corridors were a bit narrow and I must admit I felt a bit nervous that night being on 3rd floor about getting out if a fire broke out
Sea view. Clean comfortable room. Tasteful decor. really good bathroom.
The staff were pleasant, good food, nice comfortable hotel, great sea view, unfortunately the pier has burnt down but that would have looked nice too! Room was very hot.
Newly renovated room with baths Ongoing interior and exterior work, lot's of 'wet paint' and solvent odors.
we were pleasantly greeted at arival. i liked the fact it had an en suite, and they made the bed with clean towels every morning. no breakfast included. we had a leak in our shower, which continued for the duration of our stay, the hall way to our room was very dark, the restaurant, wasn't very pleasant to stay in only had breakfast in the morning. no proper fairwell when we left, she just took the key off us.
good friendly hotel
Nice hotel, perfect location. Car park conveniently behind the hotel. Staff very helpful. Bar/Restaurant served good food and had a nice atmosphere.
Love the Room was the Jacuzzi and the Thermal Pool out the Back. The Room is also very well Equipped. Didn't Like leaving after a Wonderfully Stay.
The large in-room jacuzzi and outdoor spa pool made this a place we will visit again
The jaccuzi in the room was wicked and the spa at the top of the garden was just fantastic.
the quality of bathroom facilities jacuzzi ,japanese toilet was most enjoyable ,the bed although soft gave a great night's sleep , fresh fruit in room shame room wasn't bigger , a more secure feeling to back entrance
Fantasric outdoor pool and Jacuzzi in room No mirror in room, only one bedside table, toilet light not working
The decor of the room The huge jacuzzi Friendliness of staff
We and one other couple who stayed that particular night were very shocked when we were asked at 3.30pm to pay £3.50 per half hour to change in our room before our wedding date at 4pm, apparently check in wasnt allowed til 4pm, very much like a backpackers, i was amazed there was no breakfast after having paid £100 for a B and B , admittedly we had a jap toilet and a jap jacuzzi but room and bed were small. Everything was very clean and decorated nicely but....
Wonderful, friendly place to stay. Clean and everything you'd expect from a good hotel. The jacuzzi in the room was wonderful, as was the outdoor pool. Both types of breakfast were delicious.
I liked the staff, the room, the pool, and felt overall it was good value for money and a very unique hotel and i would defently return again and recomend it to friends visiting Hastings
use of jacuzzi, comfortable bed, attention to detail
Seafront location, view of sea from room Scant on-site parking bed mattress needs replacement — springs coming out breakfast scheduled not early enough for me to eat and drive to a meeting Maitre d'Hotel at breakfast on 01 July 2007 was rude A 21st century hotel needs a fitness centre
1. the sea view, 2. the architecture of the sea front side of the hotel 3. a lot of space in the room the bathroom equipment, the oldfashioned uncomfortable two taps, no place for placing what one needs there, the guilding of the taps doesn't make up for the missing modern bathroom comfort, from the bed you have no way of switching on light in the dark safely
large spacious rooms, good position, classical feel Bedroom windows need cleaning outside and your breakfast staff were clueless inasmuch as I do not think any of them spoke English and we had to ask coffee, toast, glasses, plates etc. They had to have a 'Manager' shouting at them every moment - hardly relaxing.
The room size was very good Staff were not overly helpful. I asked on arrival that I was going out in the evening & would not return until around 1am. I was told that the doors would be locked however to ring the bell & someone would let me in. I did this however it took 15 mins for someone to open the door. The temperature outside was freezing.
The room was huge!, the staff were excellent and really helpful and the breakfast was certainly worth getting up for. I did not realise that the hotel was so far away from the town centre, as we got a train down we found we had to either walk quite a distance or get public transport, but it was not that bad.
the comfort and cleanliness of the room and excellent breakfast
Size of the room - we booked a family room for 2 adults and 2 children - space really helps with young children. Breakfast included fish options which was a bonus as we don't eat pork. Sky TV would have been appreciated. Bathrooms could do with modernising.
Sea front location and ease of (free) parking directly outside the hotel. Restaurant staff were wonderful -menu was fabulous.
staff-attentive,very helpful with regard to disability.well run restaurant room problems-no fresh towels during our stay,no fresh drinking glasses during our stay
We really enjoyed the dinner we had in the hotel restaurant. Our waiter, Andre was fantastic. Our room was in dire need of an overhaul. The drapes and bed hangings were faded and ragged.
Enjoyed the grand accomdation with excellent food and service
Food was superb, Table service first class. Indeed a 'country house' as advertised. Most relaxing. very little.
In a word - faultless
The staff were very helpful and efficient and the bedrooms very comfortable and warm. Small towels, cold plates at meals and no daily papers available
very lovely . set in gardens. breatfast to die for. the lady of the house was keen. helpful. and we chilled out. a great haven to escape
Owners were very friendly and made you feel at home N/A
Good value at price we paid (£80 per room per niight). Excellent breakfast and restaurant service. Evening meal very good but, as others have commented, a little bit pricey. I think many more people would eat in if menus were more competetive with other eating options in the area. Would be happy to revisit and recommend Claverton House.
Just superb service all round. To answer Q3 below, it was price at first but now blown away by the place. Just superb Nothing at all.
hospitality, warmth, breakfast it was more a guest house than a hotel.
Stayed one night but hope to go back sometime. Very friendly staff, nice room and an excellent dinner and breakfast
