KAYAK’s top tips for finding a cheap flight from London to Wilmington

  • Only two of London’s six metro airports provide frequent flights from London to Wilmington. London Heathrow Airport (LHR) provides the lion’s share of service, and there are a few daily departures from London City Airport (LCY) to Wilmington International Airport (ILM) in North Carolina.
  • Unfortunately, there are no direct flights from London Heathrow Airport or London City Airport to Wilmington. However, Finnair, United and American Airlines offer one-stop services from London Heathrow, stopping in cities like Philadelphia, Dallas/Ft Worth and Newark. You can also get flights from London City Airport via KLM and Delta Airlines, but they have two stops at Amsterdam and Atlanta.
  • Both airports are easily accessible via public transport from Central London. Heathrow Express from London Paddington Station is fast, efficient and convenient, with departures around every 15min and trips lasting just as long. If your flight departs from London City, you can catch the Docklands Light Rail approximately every 10-15min from Bank Station (Central, Northern, Waterloo & City Underground lines) to the airport.
  • Trans-Atlantic flights are one of the reasons why they invented airport lounges. London Heathrow offers Plaza Premium lounges at Terminals 2 and 4, while in Terminals 3 and 5, you can relax in the Club Aspire lounges. In addition, passengers leaving from London City Airport can use the First Class Lounge in the Private Jet Centre Facility.
  • As a helpful reminder, you should remember that both London Heathrow and London City airports prohibit smoking inside any of their terminal buildings. This also extends to the use of electronic cigarettes. However, you'll find designated smoking areas outside each terminal if you want a cigarette break before your flight leaves.

Lounge was top notch h with great variety of food and drinks. Cabin crew were great. Smooth flight.

My seat 3G did not go down fully and the buttons were not working properly

Food was the worst I’ve had on a VA flight. Normally it’s a lot better

The staff was not very polite but the flight was very very nice and comfortable and the entertainment was great

Security area in terminal 3 needs to be made much nicer. Less claustrophobic and use of glass and big ceilings wouldhelp

accomodating check in staff, friendly flight crew ( a crew member was speaking tactlessly and was overfamiliar with passengers

Seats need to be updated. Allowance needs to be made for dinner service at an alternative time

If I could fly Virgin Atlantic airlines to every place, I need to go, I would. Leaving Heathrow through the special virgin air entrance, security is completely white glove service. I love this airline. From ticketing agents to flight staff everyone tries to make it a wonderful & happy flight experience. I wish other airlines copied the positive culture of Virgin Airlines.

Premium was very comfortable. Food was delicious. I had specific diet requirement and Virgin Atlantic ensured it was provided. Onboard crew was very friendly and caring. Extremely smooth journey. I wonder how upper class experience would be. Perhaps one day, I will try upper class.

On arrival to JFK it to 3.5hrs to clear immigration, as only 3 booths open. Almost missed connection

The seats were roomier than other airplanes I’ve been on.

The security line at JFK was one of the longest I’ve ever experienced - probably 45 minutes. I don’t know if JetBlue has control over it, but it detracted from the overall experience. Entertainment had good options, but the volume control was a bit small to tap on and the screen had a fair amount of interference blips. Clearer picture would have been better.

I liked the entertainment on JetBlue, the service from JFK to JAX was terrible at best

Checking-in in Barbados was excellent, connecting in JFK to JAX was a nightmare, had to wait over 1 hour and 20 minutes to receive my check bag. After receiving my checked bag and going to the gate to check in for my flight to Jax the crew there had no clue. They first told me that I had missed the flight and had to rebooked.. after trying to speak with JetBlue reservations (without luck) I was asked to leave my Phone number for a recall, I did so and my call was returned after 15 hours. I finally looked at the information board and saw the flight that I was originally scheduled for was still at the gate. I alerted an JetBlue employee of my findings and was told to rush to the gate and see if I could still board. The agent at the boarding gate apparently was having a very bad day, after lecturing me on how late I was (which was not a fault of mine) let me on the flight. A VERY BAD EXPERIENCE. I will NEVER fly JetBlue ever in my life again.

I usually dont fly JeTBlue and I dont think I will ever do it again. The flight was delayed fee time, nobody was giving us any info at at the airport, gate changing, the slowest and poorly organized boarding ever, rude staff.. huh

The flight was delayed. I upgraded to more room. I can't imagine how small the regular seats are I haven't upgraded for my return flight yet.

Jetblue provided a very good service during the flight, the plane in a very good condition, the crew is professional, everything was on time. That's it!

It was a pretty smooth flight, I tend to get mini anxiety attacks during flights, however, this time was pretty smooth and I was able to relax. The only thing, I was having issues to connect to the Flyfi internet. I was not able to connect at all, I turned off my phone a couple times and didnt work.

The regular feedback of any changes to our flights. The Jetblue staff were very helpful. Our flights were great. Lots of leg room!

We liked the flight, but not in JFK, not in Gatwick it is no lounge and this was surprising and disappointing. I think by now it is understandable that COVID will not go away and why it should not be business lounge?

Not good because in this cancelled and then rebooked flight BA put me and my husband in both middle seats when we were originally seated together in original flight and i was in aisle. I hate sitting in the middle. BA food needs to be better. It was just ok. Thanks though to screw and everyone one for safe flight

Crew members were thorough in checking seatbelts and whatnot which makes me feel cared for because passenger safety is a main concern.

I was sent an email that said my card payment was not verified. When I spoke to an agent , he said my card was not verified and the flight I thought I had to booked was no longer available so I booked another flight on another airline(United). Later I got flight updates , etc., concerning my supposed first flight. So if I was charged for this flight on British Airways/American airlines, I need a refund.

The crew made it a great flight. They were friendly and attentive. They made me want to fly British Airways again.

One of the worst experience given the middle seat even asked for the change no one honored, boarded at the end and overall one of the worst experience

The booking agent, cheapflightsfares, messed up, and the information for the seats we paid extra for was not sent to American Airlines. We were separated on the return flight and sent to the lowest economy section. The flight attendant helped arrange seating at the back of the plane to allow my wife and me to sit together.

All went well on the flight, not happy of course with having to pay for a seat and in hold luggage of £50

We're waiting an BA flight being operated from London to Raleigh

My worst flying experience so far. This flight was delayed a total of 42 hours and diverted to New York before it was finally cancelled. It was delayed 4 and a half hours in London. As we were scanning our boarding passes at the gate they advised that the flight was being diverted to JFK since the delays caused us to missed the open hours for Charlotte international customs and immigration. We were assured multiple times by airport personnel, flight attendants, and the Pilot that we would land at JFK go through customs and immigration and then reboard the plane to fly to Charlotte in the same night. When we landed in New York the pilot advised us as we were retrieving our carry on luggage that we were delayed till 10am the next morning and to see guest services to get a room for the night. During this time I had to purchase a room for a family member in Charlotte which drove over 4 and a half hours to pick us up from Charlotte. This could have been avoided if American Airlines had been up front about the delay. Then after standing in line for over 2 and a half hours at guest services we were taken by taxi to a hotel 30 minutes out of the way. Luckily I looked for other flights that night and found one at 8 am to get on. The initial flight which we were scheduled to fly to charlotte in was delayed 12 more times and was finally cancelled 42 hours after it was supposed to land. I am unaware of what happened to the guest that were supposed to fly on the flight after we were placed on another flight but 42 hours in delays for a direct flight is absolutely ridiculous.

Seating space was crowded and I am a very small woman.
