FAQs - booking Zimbabwe flights

  • What currency is used in Zimbabwe?

The Zimbabwean dollar has been suspended and replaced with RTGS dollars and the US dollar. You can exchange other currencies for RTGS dollars in Zimbabwe. It might be a good idea to bring US dollars to Zimbabwe, as the country can experience a shortage of cash. RTGS dollars are not worth anything outside Zimbabwe, so if you are given bond notes as change, make sure to spend them all before leaving. RTGS and US dollars both use the symbol $ in Zimbabwe, so do check if the price is quoted in RTGS or US dollar before paying.

  • How can I get to Mana Pools National Park?

The easy way to go to Mana Pools National Park is to get a flight to Harare or Victoria Falls (VFA) airports and arrange a transfer with a tour operator beforehand, but this can be expensive. If you want to travel on your own, you must arrange a 4x4 and access with a vehicle is only allowed during dry season.

  • How can I get to Hwange National Park?

To get to Hwange National Park, you should fly into Victoria Falls airport. From there you can charter private flights, arrange for road transfers or drive yourself. You need a 4x4 to reach some parts of the park.

  • What is the KAZA UniVisa and why do I need it?

The KAZA Univisa allows you to travel between Zimbabwe and Zambia and take day trips into Botswana. It costs around 50 USD (40 GBP) and is valid for 30 days. Sometimes, when visiting a tourist attraction, you may need to cross the border, for example at Victoria Falls, as there are parts that belong to Zambia and parts that belong to Zimbabwe.

  • What currency exchange facilities are there at Robert Mugabe International Airport?

The currencies in Zimbabwe are the Real Time Gross Settlement or the US dollar. Worry not if flying to Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport, as you will get access to currency exchange facilities. There are banks and foreign exchange points, easily accessible at the arrival areas and the departing terminal. Alternatively, you can withdraw your money at the airport and opt for exchange in other parts of Zimbabwe, as the rates may be slightly lower.

  • I'm travelling to Zimbabwe to visit Victoria Falls. Where should I fly to?

If you are flying to Zimbabwe for Victoria Falls, consider flying to Victoria Falls Airport (VFA), which is approximately 11 miles (18 km) from the falls. Taxis are an easy and fast transit option accessible within the airport terminal, and a quick route is via A8, arriving at Victoria Falls in about 18min.

  • How does KAYAK find such low prices on flights from the United Kingdom to Zimbabwe?

KAYAK is a travel search engine. That means we look across the web to find the best prices we can find for our users. With over 2 billion flight queries processed yearly, we are able to display a variety of prices and options on flights from the United Kingdom to Zimbabwe.

  • How does KAYAK's flight Price Forecast tool help me choose the right time to buy my flight ticket from the United Kingdom to Zimbabwe?

KAYAK’s flight Price Forecast tool uses historical data to determine whether the price for a flight from the United Kingdom to Zimbabwe is likely to change within 7 days, so travellers know whether to wait or book now.

  • What is the Hacker Fare option on flights from the United Kingdom to Zimbabwe?

Hacker Fares allow you to combine one-way tickets in order to save you money over a traditional return ticket. You could then fly from the United Kingdom to Zimbabwe with an airline and back with another airline.

  • What is KAYAK's "flexible dates" feature and why should I care when looking for a flight from the United Kingdom to Zimbabwe?

Sometimes travel dates aren't set in stone. If your preferred travel dates have some wiggle room, flexible dates will show you all the options when flying from the United Kingdom to Zimbabwe up to 3 days before/after your preferred dates. You can then pick the flights that suit you best.

Top tips for finding cheap flights to Zimbabwe

  • Enter your preferred departure airport and travel dates into the search form above to unlock the latest Zimbabwe flight deals.
  • There are rarely direct flights to Zimbabwe from the UK. The majority of routes involve flying to Johannesburg (South Africa) and then require a connecting flight to Harare, Victoria Falls or Bulawayo. Harare (HRE) is the easiest airport to fly into as it is serviced by many airlines.
  • Preferably, you should allow 3-5h of transit time in Johannesburg, so that you have ample time to catch your connecting flight. Transiting in Johannesburg is rather easy; simply follow the signs for ‘International Transit’. The flight from Johannesburg to Harare takes about 1h 30m.
  • Confirm with your airline(s) whether you have to leave the transit area upon arrival in South Africa. If so, note that you may need to present official documents if you are transiting in South Africa with children (under 18). You may need to present the child’s full unabridged birth certificate upon arrival if the child is travelling only with one parent or without either parent. Sometimes, even accompanied by both parents, a request to see the child’s full unabridged birth certificate may be made, especially if one parent bears a different surname from the child.
  • You should consider flying into Zimbabwe via South Africa. This is usually more affordable and gives you more options to choose from.
  • British citizens will need a visa to enter Zimbabwe. You can either obtain the visa online, at the Zimbabwean Embassy in London or upon arrival in Zimbabwe. The visa usually grants you up to 30 days in Zimbabwe. If you choose to get the visa upon arrival, please bring small change to pay for it. Your passport should have at least six months validity and three empty pages to allow you to enter Zimbabwe and exit via any of the neighbouring countries.
  • To find cheap flights to Zimbabwe, consider flying to Harare Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport (HRE), which is the country’s largest airport. The airport is the central hub connecting you to major cities, including Harare, Chitungwiza, Marondera and Norton. Shuttles and taxis are the primary transit options from the airport to other locations, as public transport is minimal.
  • If travelling with mobility limitations, you can be received by a member of the assistance team at the arrival gates of Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport; they will see you through any transfers and help with your luggage. The airport has mobility facilities too, including wheelchairs and wheelchair-accessible paths. Notify your airline or travel agent at least 48 hours before your flight.
  • Once you arrive at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport, you can walk to an onsite lounge for a drink, snack or relax before you proceed to your final destination in Zimbabwe. One example is The Lounge, easily accessible on the ground floor of the terminal building.

The quality of food is going down comparing with old history of excellent food. It was cold and a bad quality. The crew is always excellent and caring.

The journey was nice, all the crews were very good and services are excellent

Great flight - Clubhouse met our needs, and the staff provided good service. Boarding felt a little chaotic, but given the size of the aircraft, it's always going to be challenging. Whilst the crew were friendly, the number of passengers meant that we received our breakfast items, but had finished breakfast before we were served a drink. Lunch was much better organised, and throughout the flight, the crew were attentive. Found the seats and ICE to be excellent. Disembarkation was fine, and everything possible to expedite the process was being done.

We loved flying with Emirates in business class, the staff were fabulous, going above & beyond

The seating is spaced out nicely, The crew could have offer more drinks.

Excellent comfort and entertainment. Service poor..Food average with little choice.

Comfort good. Service as usual poor. Cabin temperature as usual too cold, about 15 degrees

Fresh energetic and friendly crew, great food, brand new plane and non stop entertainment

The food was pretty good and the crew were excellent. It would have been excellent all round but for screaming children. Six hours at least of a 10 hr flight. Mostly 1 child clearly on the spectrum and probably ADHD but I really felt for the parents and grandparents who were obviously struggling and doing the best they could under the circumstances. No reflection on the airline of course and we all need to be more tolerant with these challenges . Slept for 15 hrs when I got home.

The boarding experience was worst ever. Single aerobridge used for boarding and deboarding which led to lot of chaos. Food options were not great. First flight delayed by more than 3 hours which led to missing of the next flight we were stuck at Dubai airport by more than 6 hours

Because of the long lay over hour, Rwand Air offered a free hotel accomodation and transport. This was highly appreciate d

Pleasant, relaxed flight. I had 2 seats to myself, which was a bonus. I couldn't find a flight tracker ap so I could know where we were but that's a minor complaint. On the plus side, the passenger announcements did not come through my earphones but were on main speakers only. That was a nice touch.

Flight delayed by 3 hours 45 mins and no explanation given or apology. Rebooked on a flight departing to final destination 48 hrs later and baggage not delivered.

My outbound flight was grounded in Lusaka so we never made it to Paris. DO NOT fly this airline you will be stranded and your plans will be completely disrupted

Inflight entertainment with electronic charging stations can help during a long flight.

The flight was delayed with no notice. No inflight entertainment. Communication is vital in any business.

Poor communication: Flight come directly to kigali , didn’t come via mumbasa. Favouring to Rwandan passenger to move from economic to bussiness class after flight depart. Where they don’t asked other older passenger who need more comfort. Rude staff : chekin airport at Mumbai. Talking in local language (marathi) while serving and no sorry no thank you attitude.

Flight canceled by JetBlue for no reason. No good alternatives provided.

Terrible experience resolving missed connection after flight was delayed. 3 hour queue at transit desk, not enough staff, no organisation, worst ever flying experience.

The rows of seats in economy class are seriously close to one another making eating and resting just about impossible - there is hardly any legroom. Anyone larger than average size would have an incredibly uncomfortable flight. I had to basically share my seat with the lady passenger next to me as she was too big to fit into her allotted seat.

Food was good, attendants were friendly. Seats were not comfortable. Did not receive any amenities such as eyemask or earplugs that would have helped sleep. Additionally a large group of passengers boarded very late into boarding and were a disruption for almost the whole flight. Flight attendants did their best but the kids were making so much noise, kicking seats, and half the time no adult was sat with them so they weren’t being managed.

I staff or crew they were very friendly and humbly, they done theirs service very well, I appreciate them and thank you to the company or Qatar 🇶🇦 Government for providing as good service in their flight ,once again, thank you 😊 🙏 😀 😉 👍

Crews are very rude and unhelpful. Cramped seats in economy. Foods are useless

Lovely aircraft and I flight entertainment. Good leg room. Full flight crew struggled a bit

Everything from start to end was good and easy plus clean i enjoy my trip in qatar airline

Food not good as good as last time flew with them

Seats very uncomfortable, impossible to sleep. Food average, bakery items not fresh. Pockets in seats not large enough to hold a book and a few other items. Cabin temperature too cold, even with blanket. Good selection of movies. Other than that 12 hours of torture!

Everything was great, the infotainment system was glitching but this was not a big deal.

It was a good experience - too many times checking at the airport - every time had to remove shoes , belt , laptop etc. that was a bit of exaggerated. The seat had a sharp metal plate -- which torn into my jeans.

Very bad experience flight was over 5 hours delayed 😑 not a chance to be put on another flight we had to stay at the hotel we lost 2 days on our vacation. Never again I will fligh with Ethiopian airlines.

I felt all of the food tasted the same. And we had five meals over the 16 hrs in the air.

The food needs to improve especially the fish as there where only 3 fish cubes in my plate.

Am Wowed I did not ever thought African has such an amazing airline before.

Customer service and the food was great. If the announcements in English could be said slower for the customer to understand what is being said. Due to ascent, it is difficult to understand. repaeting would help.

The gate was changed at the very last moment and no one informed us. The flight was one hour late and the screen broken, the remote control not working. One toilet was out of order . the other toilets were also not totally functioning, because the washbasin was plugged and the water couldn't flow away.

Hot, uncomfortable and very rough take off and landing. Very regrettable.

Was so glad the the captain kept the air. It’s usually suffocating in there.

Delayed flight made my day very long, but other than that KQ got me to my destination in good shape.

The nice treatment and lovely pilots who accepted my son inside for a photo. So lovely of them

I’m very disappointed for this trip and I will never travel again in this airline. In addition, I don’t recommend to any human being to travel to Kenya Airways. They keep me at Nairobi for 4 days without care. I was at Nairobi from 6 a.m Morning up to 10 a:m Thursday. For that reason, I have trouble for my work and may be I will lose my job. During for those 4 days I didn’t have my medicine, I didn’t have clothes to change because all my clothes were in my checked bags. On Thursday, when I got flight, they don’t even apologize for all consequences I had. During for those 4 days, I learned many things for this airline. It is their system to treat passengers like this because they had hundreds or thousands passengers around Nairobi waiting for their flights after their original flights cancelled. If I lose my job, I planned to file claim to the airline. This is not airline to travel with.

They weight duty free goods at check in and count the weight as carry on luggage. Results : for 4 bottles I had to opay $150. rip off. Be careful to avoid any duty free shopping at Dubai airport

It's the only direct flight between Accra and Nairobi, and you pay for it! Food is better on Asky. No entertainment on flight from Accra to Nairobi, but there other way did have screens. Generally timely boarding and departure.

They fed me at the right time the flight was smooth and the captain explain everything

The cabin is due for a refresh - the seats are very thin and not very comfortable. The AVOD system also did not work on one of the seats and the touch screen were very glitchy. The overall cleanliness of the aircraft could be improved

Apart from delay of 3 hrs in Nairobi for onward flight to Dar all fine. Looked like operational issues caused it.

The flight never took off. We sat on the tarmac for over two hours due to an electrical fault and finally the flight was cancelled. We were told that hotels would be organised but there was no further communication. In the end I retrieved my baggage and went to the car park to pick up my car and drive home. It cost me over £150 to park the car for two weeks, plus of course petrol, and over £600 for the four flights and £50 for the travel visa. All gone up in my smoke. I’m bitterly disappointed that my business Trip was cancelled and have been told I will get a “partial refund” within three months!!! What a way to treat a customer.

Few movies to choose from. They did not board by zone
