Huntington Beach is a city located in southern California, and is considered one of the quintessential California beach destinations. Featuring pleasant weather year-round, 15 kilometres of untouched white sandy beaches, and a thriving Main Street with shops, restaurants, and bars, Huntington Beach holidays are perfect for those looking for both a relaxed and lively destination with a mellow California atmosphere.
Huntington Beach's mild climate makes it an excellent beach destination year-round, although the summer, temperatures in the mid 20's and a variety of events, is the most popular time to visit. Winter is quieter and brings temperatures around 15 degrees, though it does rain occasionally. Though Huntington Beach has a small airport nearby, most travellers fly into Los Angeles and make the short 45-minute journey by car. Alternatively, visitors can also fly into San Diego (1.5 hours away) or Las Vegas (4 hours). Visitors driving from San Francisco should consider travelling on Highway 1; this takes much longer and would perhaps need to be split over two days, but it's one of the most scenic drives in the world and worth the extra time. Once there, getting around by car is easiest, though cycling along the beach is also an option. Huntington Beach is in the Pacific Time Zone (GMT-8).
With an active community, plenty of events, and excellent beaches, there's always something to do in Huntington Beach. Aside from simply soaking up the rays on the sand, visitors can participate in a beach volleyball game, enjoy a stroll along the boardwalk, or try their hand at surfing - keep an eye out for the World Championship of Surfing, held each year, for tips from the professionals. Elsewhere, Main Street is a hub of the city where visitors can meet for a coffee in the sunshine, explore the boutique shops, or enjoy Huntington's nightlife after the sun goes down.
