Denver hotels

The Gaylord Rockies Resort & Convention Center is a Marriott property and a destination in its own right. While the words “convention centre” may not sound like an open invitation for families, the property features a waterpark and resort pool – a veritable mecca for families. The fun isn’t limited to the warm months, though. In the winter, there is an artificial hill for sledging and an ice sculpture display to brighten things up. A selection of restaurants, a spa and two gift shops add to the varied offerings here.

Moxy is part of the Marriott group and known worldwide as a stylish and affordable take on the brand’s traditional hotels. Guests receive a complimentary cocktail upon check-in and have use of bicycles to ride around town. The Cherry Creek area is mostly known for the Cherry Creek Mall and there are upscale shops in Cherry Creek North, just across the road from the mall. Cherry Creek North is a five-minute drive from the city centre, but you get the feel of being in a neighbourhood rather than the city with local schools and posh homes nearby

If a 5-star hotel with views of the mountains, a relaxing spa and a brilliant pool sounds soothing, look no further than the Four Seasons Hotel Denver. “Edge Restaurant,” on the ground floor offers a varied, classy menu to match the occasion – though I’m told that room service is also a popular option. Stretch your legs with a stroll to the nearby theatre complex – or the Denver Art Museum, where free entry for those under the age of 18 has to be a draw for those with kids.

Live like a local with an extended stay in the city’s coolest area. Catbird, in the RiNo neighbourhood, offers single-night stays, as well as long-term stays and residences. There are discounts for certain extended stays, so if you need a place for over seven or 21 days, the price will go down. The studio rooms include a full kitchen, king-size bed and sofa bed, plus access to amenities like the stunning rooftop with games and fire pits. Get cosy in the lobby’s overstuffed sofas and plush banquettes and order in from the Catbird Kitchen.

Hyatt Place Pena Station Denver Airport sits halfway between the airport and Denver city centre. Serviced by a light rail stop, the hotel contains a restaurant, bar, indoor pool and an interactive lobby where you can play games. Animal lovers will also be pleased that pets are welcome here – and the rate includes breakfast,

It doesn’t get any closer to the airport because, at The Westin Denver International Airport, you will stay in the airport itself. This said, you will be paying for the convenience of not having to get up early for a flight or needing to head into the city after a long journey. A bar, deli and full-service restaurant are but a few perks of the place.

The Brown Palace Hotel & Spa Autograph Collection has hosted rock stars, sitting US Presidents and other notable guests since it opened in 1892. The building is triangular in shape and the interior is an atrium that rises several floors to a stained-glass ceiling. A traditional tea hosted in the stunning lobby is a sell-out during every holiday season. It’s worth a visit even if you’re not an overnight guest.

As part of the McGregor Square development across from Coors Field, home to the Colorado Rockies baseball team, the Rally Hotel offers a luxurious stay at the heart of the action during any given baseball season. A rooftop pool, commanding views of the baseball stadium and close proximity to Union Station where travellers can catch the light rail to the airport are some of the perks of this hotel.

Capitol Hill Mansion Bed and Breakfast Inn lies at the heart of the Capitol Hill neighbourhood. One of the city’s oldest areas, it’s surrounded by major attractions such as the Denver Botanic Gardens, the Colorado Capitol Building and Cheesman Park. Nearby are the Denver Art Museum, the Clyfford Still Museum and Civic Center Park. Capitol Hill has long been considered an LGBTQ-friendly neighbourhood in Denver. This lovingly restored home is filled with intricately carved wood, marble fireplaces and cosy rooms inside the brick and stone façade. Free on-site parking is a welcome amenity here, and so is the generous happy hour each evening.

If you’re planning a family outing to the theatre or an event at the Colorado Convention Center, The Curtis Hotel is an excellent option. Not only does it offer a vibrant and playful atmosphere, but it also features uniquely themed rooms such as “Barbie” or “Video Games.” However, if you prefer a more traditional design, the hotel offers standard rooms too. Upon check-in, you’ll be treated to a fresh cookie, and everyone is welcome to enjoy classic board games in the lobby. The hotel is pet-friendly too, although an additional fee applies.
