Pros: The location of the hotel and the room were excellent. We didn't try the hotel's breakfast as we were keen to explore the city. There were so many place to eat in Edinburgh that it seemed best to try a variety of places. The hotel's Afternoon Tea was superb though!

Cons: I don't think anything could be improved upon. We found the staff friendly, helpful an attentive throughout our stay.

Pros: I told them I am severely asthmatic. When I walked into the room I immediately smelled musty old rug that was cleaned at least dozens of times and exhausted its useful life a long time ago. I went back to the front desk and told them needed a different room for medical reasons and willing to pay more. The front desk person and the day manager told me that they did not have availability without any serious they said no without any consideration and force me to sleep in this room where I ended up wheezing all night. They also lied to me that all the rooms were renovated at the same time and were the same. And it turns out that there were at least a few rooms available.

Cons: The front desk staff should care about the wellbeing of their customers. Poorly trained and inconsiderate.

Pros: The Number One was a tremendous experience. The hotel and restaurant staff could not have been better during our stay. I would simply say keep it up!

Pros: Beautiful historic hotel in the perfect location. The staff could not have done more to be helpful. The room was beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable. The bathroom was spectacular.

Cons: The light level in the room was so subdued that it was difficult to see inside your suitcase. Other than that no complaints at all.

Pros: I wish I could remember the name of the man who checked me in (i think it was Chris - sorry if it is not) but my experinece was fantastic. I was having such a horrid day and the team at APEX were incredible. Honestly could next have been more helpful. My room was so comfy and the bath was a dream. I would absolutely stay here again

Cons: Not the hotel's fault, it's at every UK hotel I've been to, but a regular electrical outlet in the bathroom would be nice.

Pros: We were visiting just as GB was shutting everything down due to the C-Virus. The hotel restaurant served a very good dinner and breakfast (even though that was the last days they could be open. The location is outstanding just across from the famous Grass Market Square and within easy walking distance of the Royal Mile and Edinburgh Castle.

Cons: The hotel didn't have a swimming pool and spa as stated by booking.com we had to go down the street to their sister hotel.

Pros: The hotel was in sight of the castle and a short walk from the Royal Mile. The hotel itself was spotless with really friendly staff. Parking is very limited but was a real bonus.

Cons: Airconditioning/heating in the room sounds like the Tsjernobyl reactor 4 malfunctioning. Makes it rather difficult to sleep at night. Bathroom was made wheelchair accessible. Great thing to have such rooms but rather inconvenient if you're not bound to a wheelchair. Washing your face using the sink entailed bowing like you're meeting the emperor of Japan. An event was hosted on the roof garden at night (most rooms have access to this garden directly). Turns out sleeping and drunk Yanks near your room are not a great combination.

Pros: Staff were really helpful and friendly.

Cons: The long hikes to our bedroom -we hadn’t expected that.

Pros: The room was nicely furnished, warm for winter, and nicely located near a roof top garden and the bar.

Cons: The toilet system is similar to those found on airlines. As a result, the noise is horrendous. Not only when we flushed our own toilet, but also those of the surrounding rooms to the side, above and below. Absolutely ridiculous. Likewise the aircon/heating system needs updated - the noise it makes throughout the night woke me up a number of times.

Pros: Beautiful room furnishings, Bose stereo system, floor to ceiling windows, glass shower stall, separate bathtub. Very lovely roof garden and communal lounge area. Very accommodating staff.

Pros: The location was great and the views were beautiful from the roof top garden. We absolutely loved our room. The staff were all extremely friendly.

Pros: The view where it was in the city was perfect.

Cons: There wasn’t anything I didn’t like.

Pros: The hotel is well situated, on High Street, near the railway station, close to the Edinburgh castle and Princes Street, so it’s easy to walk from there almost anywhere you want to visit. The breakfast was good, lots to choose from at the buffet. The beds were amazing, after walking all day it was easy to relax and just drift off into sleep.

Cons: We had an issue with the staff one night, my friends were having a gathering downstairs because some of them smoke, they were not disruptive or making a mess, but a person on the staff saw them drinking some whiskey, we were after all buying whiskey that day and they were trying some out, and this person took the bottle from them, without reason, and the explanation was ridiculous, like we don’t allow drinking here? I guess they don’t allow it if you don’t buy it at their bar or something, because the glasses and ice they were using were from the hotel bar, they asked for them. Anyway, later one they ask for our property back, the bottle, because it was ours, but I wouldn’t have let them take it on the first place, if you don’t want your passengers drinking on your premises ask them to move it to the room or leave the space, but don’t touch what’s not your property. Two nights later or so we actually went to the hotel bar, charge what we had to our room, left, were just getting settled when they called us because they couldn’t find our credit card on the system or something, we had to get back down and tried to sort it out, but the truth is we never understood what was wrong with the card they had entered when we checked in; they even asked if I wanted to put that charge on another credit card, which I said of course not, they had a credit card on their system and that was the card they should use for the charge. After not learning what went wrong, or what they actually wanted, we finally went to bed. This whole thing could have been resolved the next morning, but no, we had to try and resolve it right then and there.

Pros: Spacious suite living room, separate half guest bath, Decent breakfast with separate order menu, gym had free weights to 30kg, location is on royal mile down road from castle (but for Christmas markets and shopping, a princess street hotel would been better), overall friendly staff.

Cons: 1. For a royal mile suite, main bathroom was standard. Overly spacious living room really could’ve spared space for a more comfortable bathroom befitting suite. 2. Website advertised kids eat free. However, when we ordered meals for the kids via room service, we were told it’s not free. Extremely deceptive and off putting of brand. 3. I emailed the hotel 1 week in advance of 4-day stay and asked for milk, orange juice, and water in room stocked and included room mini fridge. Email from customer service acknowledged request and even confirmed we still wanted wine and beer - a nice catch! However, when we arrived, we were informed juice and milk not included. False service promise should’ve not been made. Room service food was Not worth price (pizza, burger, and kids chicken meal were only ok but far more expensive than eaterery options all around).

Pros: Location in a heart of Royal Mile, hotel is much bigger one can imagine from outside, comfy and clean room

Cons: Room was not ready by check-in time, had to wait, and when you are in a city for a limited time- this makes you unhappy. Guy at the reception desk with kilt was neither professional nor useful. Breakfast was decent but a bit busy for such a small room in such a big hotel.

Pros: Old world charm meets modern amenities- you can't go wrong with this hotel right on the royal mike in Edinburgh. Excellent staff, well maintained rooms, and full service. Health club has good assortment of machines and free weights.

Cons: It's bloody cloudy in Scotland- spent an entire week and didn't see the sun once.

Cons: Looking a bit tired. Desk in room had big scratch on it. Also, on a previous stay breakfast was on the top floor which was lovely. This time we were in the lower part of the ground floor restaurant. The continental breakfast choice was quite poor considering the price. The toast was merely warmed up bread and coffee wasn't particularly hot. My elderly parents in their 80s, who were also staying, were unable to shower as they couldn't get in or out of the very steep sided bath.

Pros: Our castle view room was exceptional. Very clean. Bed was comfortable and housekeeping was exceptional. Front desk staff very friendly.

Pros: Conveniently located in the Grassmarket district of Edinburgh within a very easy walk of several excellent restaurants and pubs, this hotel has an excellent view of the Old Town and the castle, which is only a few minutes away by foot. The room was spacious, the bed was comfortable, and the bar staff provided ice for no extra charge.
