FAQs - booking Cayman Islands flights

  • Can I fly to the Cayman Islands from Northern Ireland?

Passengers based in Northern Ireland who want cheap flights to the Cayman Islands will find that British Airways offers the most affordable and convenient route from Belfast City Airport (BFS). British Airways flights from Belfast to Owen Roberts International Airport usually involve a stopover at LHR and then another change in Nassau (NAS).

  • What direct flights are there to the Cayman Islands?

You can fly directly to the Cayman Islands from London with British Airways, flying from Heathrow Airport to George Town Owen Roberts International Airport, on Grand Cayman. However, this route is not a regular service, and you can find much cheaper flights that include stopovers, through KAYAK.

  • Which airports in the Cayman Islands have on-site hotels?

If you’re booked on cheap flights to the Cayman Islands, you will find plenty of options for a peaceful night’s rest when you land. Although none of the airports on the Cayman Islands have on-site hotels, there is accommodation nearby. If you land at GCM, you can stay at the Hampton by Hilton Grand Cayman, which is just a 5-minute taxi ride from the airport. Alternatively, if you land at Sir Charles Kirkconnell International Airport on Cayman Brac, you can stay at Le Soleil D’or, which is also around a 5-minute taxi journey from the airport.

  • What visa do I need to travel to the Cayman Islands?

For UK citizens travelling to the Cayman Islands, you will not require a visa to be permitted entry. Your passport must be valid for at least the duration of your stay, and you must be able to provide proof of a return ticket or onward travel.

  • What are the stopover options between London and the Cayman Islands?

When flying from London to the Cayman Islands, you can book indirect flights with Air Canada, departing Heathrow Airport and including a stopover at Toronto Pearson International Airport. Alternatively, you can stop off in Toronto when flying from London Gatwick Airport with WestJet, while British Airways have flights departing Heathrow, flying via Miami International Airport (MIA), as does Virgin Atlantic via Montego Bay Sangster International Airport (MBJ), both changing to Cayman Airways.

  • Which airports offer car hire for passengers landing in the Cayman Islands?

Hiring a car on the Cayman Islands can save you money, as local taxis can be expensive and there are few other public transport options. Passengers landing at Owen Roberts International Airport can hire a car as soon as they arrive. There are multiple international car hire agencies, such as Alamo, Avis, and Hertz, located just a few minutes walk from the main Arrivals Terminal on Roberts Drive.

  • How can I get to West Bay from Owen Roberts International Airport?

Taxis are available outside the Arrivals area at Owen Roberts International Airport on Grand Cayman. Taxi fares on the island are usually quite expensive, so a taxi to West Bay can cost around 40 KYD (40 GBP) for a 20-minute journey.

  • Which island should I fly to when flying from the UK to the Cayman Islands?

If you’re mindful of the flight duration, then flying to George Town Owen Roberts International Airport, on Grand Cayman, is the better option, as most flights to this airport including one stopover are shorter. You can still get reasonably priced flights to the other islands, Little Cayman and Cayman Brac, but these will include two or three stopovers, extending the flight time considerably.

  • I’m based in the north of England. Which airport should I fly from to reach the Cayman Islands?

My seat had no padding, it was literally plywood with a plastic cover. I could not change seats on my 10 hour flight. My excitement for this trip helped me deal with the pain.

New boarding doesn't make sense. Filling front first is slow.

The plane was old, first class was not up to other airlines. The seat controls were touchy, not always responding to touch. The center overhead compartment was small. The entertainment was not good, part of plane had it other part did not. The experience would make me think twice before picking Delta for future travel

Got on the plane and then needed to deboard the plane because they didn’t have any pilots?

Ongoing flight was delayed. Staff at bag recheck was able to get us on an earlier flight. With only 20 minutes till take off we feared our bags would not make the new earlier flight. We were most delighted that they did and were there when we landed. Delta came through

I had a wonderful experience flying with delta. The gentleman taking care of us on our flight was so nice, accommodating, and attentive. He always was smiling and giving pins to the kids which made me smile. The flight was quick too and without turbulence. Thank you for the great flying experience.

I'm a larger, athletic guy (6'2", 260lbs powerlifter) and I found the seats incredibly uncomfortable with minimal leg room, especially in a window seat. Now, I full understand that being smaller may change my view but even if I was 80lbs less, my legs would be the same size and I was sandwiched between my seat and the seat in front of me.

On my way home I had a layover. The flight from ATL to CLT was amended 5x while I was waiting. I could have driven home sooner. Overall from Dallas, Tx to Charlotte, NC I started my trip at 4:30pm, I didn’t get home until past midnight. I know things happen, but 5x to make me run back and forth in an airport from different terminals is excessive.

When checking our bags at the Virgin Atlantic counter, the employee told us that we should go to Delta because we needed to verify our passports and our names. Fortunately the employee organizing the line stopped us and asked why we didn't hand over our suitcases. He sent us to another line and told the employee that we already have the passports verified in the reservation. She understood and received our suitcases. In London they have a general waiting room, where you stay until the gate number of your flight is announced. KAYAK informed us the gate number hours before the airlines did. Just like the flight to London, the legroom is too small. abusive for a flight of so many hours.

The experience was good and the flight departed on time and landed early

i dont know WHY they call it business class. the seats are NOT significantly wider than economy seats, they just do not let the middle seats be beepked to give the illusion of more space between passengers. the seats do NOT recline any more than economy seats either. the only real difference is the full meal served to business (vs none for economy). I would rather have a wider, lie flat ACTUAL business class seat with no food for a 3 hr flight. this was pretty disappointing to say the least.

There wore nice leather like sits, in my opinion seats lay out bit tight . Crew was great they did averything possible to make averywone comfortable as possible, food was, think worst I ever head on flight, head chicken and yellow rice. Ice cream was a nic treat.

Our previous flight was delayed but they waited for us to board.

Flight was delayed, short time connection to next flight but we make it, service was good, worth to fly just to try thair on board blueberry juce. Eccelent communication with airline.

My American Airlines flight was deleted and you guys never let me know

The entertainment system did not work. And we waited 45 minutes in our seats after we landed before we got to the gate

It was a pleasure definitely going with Iberia on my future travels

Our connecting flight was cancelled and it took us 15 hours to reach our destination.

This has been the worst experiencia I have had traveling overall. More than 3 delays, no one answering questions, no one at the AA counter. No one at customer service and after having to change transportation to airport and spend the night at a hotel paid by me, we were delayed inside of aircraft for more than 2 hours!!! Bad experience!!!

Wow! Wonderfully designed, super comfortable, spacious business seats. The food was great and the staff were friendly and attentive. A fabulous experience!

Fantastic. I am low vision and was impressed with how helpful and accommodating the service tam was. It was super appreciated! I was pleasantly surprised about how delicious the food was. Like, “I wish I had more even though I’m no longer hungry” delicious. 100% enjoyable trip.

The boarding process was such a chaos with everyone crowding at the gates. There was no structure. The onboard crew were fantastic and very good.

Boarding was a shambles, pushed us all onto the airbridge and then made us wait for ages

Flights were on time. That's the main consideration since I had to change planes. The entertainment was whatever you bring with you and the food (in Economy) is non-existant. Neither of those was a surprise.

Spacious business class lie flat sear. 2 hour delay leaving LHR led to a misconnection in Phoenix. I was place on a much later flight but that would mean a 6 hour lay over - more than half the time it took to fly the 5000+ plus miles from London, That second flight was only an hour! The staff in London said they could do nothing which led to uncertainty through the long haul flight. Thr agents in Phoenix were very responsive put me on a 5 PM flight to SAN but that flight was delayed so we took off around 6. There is little storage for personal items in the pod. There was no vegetarian meals left so flight attnedant did her best to cobble a meal from snacks. All in all I was disappointed in the AA experience.

Flight left more than 5 hours late. American's policy did not allow flight to be fueled or bags to be loaded due to intermittent lightning. We were on the plane for hours before having to deplane. They then changed the departure time to an earlier than expected time. We re-boarded and had to wait another 1.5 hours on the plane before it finally took off. Flight crew did not serve any food or drinks while airborne.

Very good. Flight on time. Cabin crew were all really friendly.

BA is now my preferred way to travel. On ground staff in Canada, London and Nairobi were patient , polite and helpful with our group. On board staff went that extra mile to make sure we felt important. Best of all, no lost luggage! Highly recommend BA in fact have 2 more long hauls with them this year.

This was actually a flight on British air as a code share

Terrible. Flight got diverted and missed connections. Staff was uninterested in helping us get our connections sorted out

Always have no issues with air canada great staff and food just all around good air line my luggage however was 5 hours late and on another flight and I requested a wheel chair because of arthritis in my lower back and fake hip walking the distance in airport killed me no one showed up for me with requested wheel chair but ....in life stuff happens ..... still a good airline and good people

Boarding was terrible. We paid for business class tickets, which would give us “Zone 1” boarding. This should happen before the zones for premium economy and economy passengers start to board. However, the gate agents at Heathrow only had “Zone 1” boarding for about 45 seconds before moving on to allowe “Zone 2” and “Zone 3” to start boarding. We still weren’t through the line to board and many passengers from zones 2 & 3 pushed ahead of us to board (it was a completely full flight). When we finally did get on the plane, there were no overhead storage compartments for rows one or two in business. Apparently this is the way that Boeing 787 planes are designed, which is frustrating to pay thousands more dollars for a ticket and then find out that there is no space to store your carry on. Finally, we got food poisoning from the sandwiches and scones with clotted cream that were served in business class. Barely was able to get home to our condo in Toronto after the flight before suffering from vomiting and diarrhea. What was supposed to be a splurge on the end of our vacation in business class instead turned into a nightmare and the absolute worst way to end a trip.

Food is terrible....... need better snacks, too. Crew was lukewarm.

It was a fantastic flight, the refreshments were just great but there was no WiFi , it makes my rating for air canada drop

Flight was delayed an ultimately cancelled. Took me close to 45 mins with an Air Canada staff to be put on another flight.

Delayed 4 hours because of a “mechanical” issue on an earlier flight. Air Canada uses this excuse for many delays to avoid having to pay passengers late/delay fees. I am a 75k Aeroplan member and was the last one to be asked for my meal choice and by then, I was told my meal choice was no longer available. I asked why I was asked last and not early given my travel status and the flight attendant lied and said that only super elite members get first choice.

I find it hard to believe that Air Canada still cannot provide non dairy milks for teas and coffees even if they offer vegan food, if preordered. It is about time to stop discriminating against people who live a plant-based diet.

The Air Canada experience wasn’t bad per se. It was the Toronto airport experience that was truly horrific. Terrible crowd, control, poor signage, and power, hungry security people who felt the need to tear open gifts in a hasty and careless fashion, causing damage to my items because they don’t know how to read a damn x-ray. On top of that the attitude was completely disrespectful and callous. I left feeling completely violated.

My flight ✈️ was delayed by 12 hours causing a disruption to my day

We had a 13 hour delay over at Montreal and our luggage was never delivered

Flight was on time. Boarding process was tedious. Not much overhead cabin space. Seats very close (front to back). Uneventful trip just the same.

Great staff, very personable, attentive. We had a spare seat next to us so that helped

Horrible food and uncomfortable plane. One toilet was out of service.

Once again I purchase a business class ticket and the seat is exactly the same as cattle class, the only difference being is that BA install a janky table over the middle seat so there is somewhere to place your complimentary drink, the tray table is just big enough for the small tray, so if you are not concerned about getting fed and watered on the plane or getting access to the BA lounge I would save your money and fly cattle, PS the cabin crew were exceptional in every way, shame about the equipment

I just have to say everything was ok, nothing special, and business class is not as good as it used to be, business class sets are the same seats as the rest of the plane including leg room, only difference is no one is sitting in the middle row, they put a janky little table in there to give you somewhere extra for the free drink to sit

Flight was delayed. Thankfully I wasn't in a rush. The airport experience (shops, amenities, ample restaurants, coffee shops, seats with charging) was very good) was very good as was the boarding which was orderly and organised. The flight was short so whilst there was no entertainment I thought that was ok especially in the age of smart phones and kindles. It would have been nice to have usbc charging supported at my seat but again it was a short flight so no drama. Overall a positive experience flying from London to Edinburgh with BA.

I’m appreciative that the crews were polite. I didn’t eat the food due to my nutrition plan.

Business class is fantastic! Lie flat seats, great meals, privacy, and lots of nice amenities!

Flight to Seattle was fine. We were delayed getting into our gate. The connection time was short and they make you go through security again which was slow.

The Heathrow team was no prepared for the number of people who were coming through at that time of the morning, it seemed they were also experiencing shift change. The lines were incredibly long and moved at a snails pace. A airport rep walked by me, I presented my boarding pass to her and asked if she thought I would make the my flight If I stayed in the current lane. The look on her face told me I was not going to make my flight. She then whisked me to another lane, got me through the line and i ran to the gate and boarded my flight with only seconds to spare. It was a frustrating experience, which BA had nothing to do with. BUT after getting onto the airplane, the flight team was welcoming and I felt a huge sense of relief. Thank you to the BA flight team!!!
