FAQs - booking Mauritius flights

  • Will I have to switch aircraft on flights to Mauritius?

There aren't many direct flights from the UK, so it's easy to find cheap flights to Mauritius that make stopovers in-between. Kenya Airways offers very cost-effective flights from London Heathrow Airport (LHR), for instance. You can also fly from Edinburgh Turnhouse Airport (EDI) on KLM, switching planes to Kenya Air at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS) and making another plane change at Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta Airport (NBO). These flights can sometimes save you a few hundred pounds too.

  • Are more sustainable flights to Mauritius available?

Some airlines offer a more carbon-efficient service on this route than average. Air Mauritius flies directly to the Indian Ocean resort island from Heathrow, emitting over 50% less CO2. If you're flying from an airport like Manchester (MAN), you can save almost 50% in carbon emissions by choosing flights operated jointly by Air France and Air Mauritius. On these flights you'll change planes at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG). You can get an identical Air France/Air Mauritius flight out of Manchester too.

  • Should I bring Mauritian rupees?

You can bring Mauritian rupees with you, or you can opt to exchange cash for Mauritian rupees on the island, as the deals offered are usually better than the exchange rate offered in the UK. Even though airports are known to offer bad rates, in Mauritius, you are more likely to find good rates.

  • Are there direct flights to Mauritius?

The only airline that flies direct from London Heathrow Airport to Mauritius is Air Mauritius, while British Airways have the most frequent direct flights from London Gatwick Airport to Mauritius.

  • What is the duty-free limit of Mauritius?

Visitors to Mauritius above 18 are permitted to bring 1 litre spirits and 2 litres of wine, ale or beer.

  • How do I get from the airport to the city?

There are three bus services that provide transport to and from Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport: Bus 09, Bus 10 and Bus 198. The travel time takes more than 1h to most major destinations on the island. Alternatively, you can take a taxi from the airport.

  • How long is the flight to Mauritius?

An average direct flight from the United Kingdom to Mauritius takes 21h 36m, covering a distance of 6192 miles. The most popular route is London - Port Louis with an average flight time of 11h 40m.

  • What is the cheapest flight to Mauritius?

The cheapest ticket to Mauritius from the United Kingdom found in the last 72 hours was £428 one-way, and £502 round-trip. The most popular route is London Gatwick to Port Louis Sir Seewoosagur Ram. and the cheapest round-trip airline ticket found on this route in the last 72 hours was £502.

  • Which airlines fly to Mauritius?

Air Mauritius & British Airways fly the most frequently from the United Kingdom to Mauritius.

  • What are the most popular destinations in Mauritius?

Based on KAYAK flight searches, the most popular destination is Port Louis (100% of total searches to Mauritius). The next most popular destination is Mont Lubin (0.4%).

  • How does KAYAK’s flight Price Forecast tool help me choose the right time to buy?

KAYAK’s flight Price Forecast tool uses historical data to determine whether the price for a given destination and date is likely to change within 7 days, so travellers know whether to wait or book now.

Top tips for finding cheap flights to Mauritius

  • Enter your preferred departure airport and travel dates into the search form above to unlock the latest Mauritius flight deals.
  • It's easier to find cheap flights to Mauritius if you use the price filters on the live KAYAK booking pages. You can filter them according to the airports from where they depart and simply choose a suitable flight from the list that you'll see. For instance, you can see all flights leaving from all London airports and you can pick the cheapest one.
  • Mauritius isn't difficult to navigate, so rather than tie yourself to public transport schedules or pay for taxi rides all the time, it's a good idea to hire a car at the same time when you find cheap flights to Mauritius and make your airline booking. You'll really appreciate the independence.
  • The quickest way to get from the single international airport in Mauritius, Port Louis Sir Seewoosagur Ram Airport (MRU) to the centre of Port Louis is to drive yourself or take a taxi. This will take about 35 minutes, as the airport is on the other side of the island. There's a public transport bus that takes around 1h 15min.
  • Most flights to Mauritius will land in Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (MRU). There is also another airport on Rodrigues, an outer island of Mauritius called Sir Gaëtan Duval Airport (RRG). If you would like to visit Rodrigues, you should consider flying to Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport and taking another flight to Sir Gaëtan Duval Airport, as it will be cheaper to do so.
  • British citizens do not need a visa to visit Mauritius. Upon arrival, you will be given a stamp allowing you to stay for a period of up to 60 days. Additionally, you will need to be able to provide a valid ticket of return or onward travel. Your passport should be valid for the entire duration of your stay and have at least one empty passport page.
  • Mauritius has strict regulations over drugs. If you would like to bring personal prescription medication, be sure to keep it in its original packaging and carry a signed and dated note from your doctor explaining what type of medicine it is, why you require it, and the total required amount for your duration of stay. For common medications, you do not need to have a prescription. Drugs like tranquillisers, hypnotics, narcotics, and other strong pain killers will need prior authorisation. You should submit your application to the Mauritius High Commission at least 2 weeks prior to your travel. This can be done by sending scanned copies of the following documents: the bio data page of your passport; your recent prescription for the medication and certificate from your doctor; your date of arrival and the date of return; the quantity of each medication you are carrying into Mauritius, as well as your intended address in Mauritius. Upon submission of these documents to the Mauritius High Commission, you will be given a letter of authorisation prior to your travel to Mauritius.
  • Cigarette papers are also not allowed in Mauritius, so you should carry regular cigarettes instead of rolled cigarettes to Mauritius.
  • If you are travelling with children, car hire services usually offer car seats. When booking your resort, check if it is child-friendly as some resorts are not open to children.

Flights were both delayed. No luggage on arrival for the whole plane and no contact since submitting a PIR.

My Experience was ok. But the gentleman next to me vaped the whole flight and the attendants did nothing, whether they were aware, I’m not sure.

Absolutely terrible delays for 3 hours changed seats after we paid an upgrade on both legs. It appears it’s up to us to request a refund after they down graded our seat. Never again !!

They had superb boarding (started an hour before flight time). Timely pushback from them gate and an early arrival. Flight and service was very comfortable. I wanted to move my flight to an earlier one, only thing was there was no one at emirates in Heathrow to help. Had to call the call the center and pay to change. There were ample seats on the flight though

Very bad !! My confirmed ticket got canceled with out notifying me in hyd airport , crew didn’t help us out !! They were very rude!! They made me pay for the confirmed ticket again !! Can you please let us know how I can get the refund for the ticket I paid

Check-in process at Bengaluru airport was atrociously slow. Emirates should allow baggage drop option after online check-in and verification of documents. The rest of the flight was quite good and we didn't have any complaints.

Lovely experience. I feel like travelling in Emirates.. The flights are always superb.Vegan food served was really good..

Boarding was chaotic ,wish it was better orgnaised. Seating was comfortable , however food quality left much to be desired. Over all a great experience but with room for imporvement. The Dubai Delhi sector was terrible with poor seat pitch over crowded rack space , crew trying to put even laptop containing bags in to luggage even the waiting area was poorly kept - the dubai - delhi lap was extremly poor flying experience in all respects - the waiting area, the craft the seat pitch & the service quality. It is sad but this will make me look for other options when flying out of Delhi.

Over all good service but from Dubai to Delhi horrible service. Not happy

Provide latest releases in Movies as they used to do.

This booking was as a result of stolen identity and hacking my debit account. I reported it to my bank. The thief tried to book two flights, maybe more. Hopefully, Kayak will be able to block fraudulent bookings and charges better in the future.

Very friendly and efficient staff. Would definitely fly Saudia again.

Entertainment on all 4 business class seats were terrible audio and could barley hear. The 11 hour layover in Riyadh was a nightmare and no one told us that nightmare matter what we do or what we were willing to pay there were no places to rest or sleep and nine of the lounges allow you to enter them no matter what unless you are 4 hours or less from flight time. With a 78 yearold mother with me this is ridiculous. The employees of the airline in Riyadh and of the lounge treated us like servants or lower class people. Never again

Food could be better. Bread should be warm served with butter. Bread quality is bad and cold served.

Entertainment for non Arabic speakers is very limited. Seats were comfortable. Seat map while booking showed 2-2-2 config, but the flight had 1-2-1..

The seats’ reclined like premium economy seats, ie, not much.. but leg space was a lot l, so it did not feel cramped. Crew was very friendly and helpful.

It’s like two different companies managing fligh from DC and totally horrible company between Jeddah and Cairo

Good variety could have been better; crew not as friendly

Since it leaves at 2:00am you sleep through most of it.

Paid an extra USD 100 for so-called Comfort seats. All of these (the bulkhead seats) had parents with babies and infants who were screaming much of the time. One mother even decided to change nappies on the seat. This was anything but comfort!

Front section of economy cabin is better than rear. Paid for seats selected.

Good flight. Paid for seats sat the frront section of the economy. Better than rear cabin.

Flight was delayed for 9 hours. We finally arrived ved at 0435hrs instead of 1950hrs the previous day. No compensation was provided.

Apart from delay of 3 hrs in Nairobi for onward flight to Dar all fine. Looked like operational issues caused it.

I booked a round trip flight and boarded a Kenya Airways trip from New York (JFK) to Nairobi (JKIA). First flight from New York to Nairobi was uneventful with no issues. However, the return flight was beyond disappointing. To begin with I had paid an extra $60 each for premium seats (me and my wife) in economy aisle 15 (B & A). However, upon settling down in the middle seat, I noticed that the controller had been ripped off meaning I would not have access to some of the seat functionalities like the individual lighting etc. I proceeded to alert a flight attendant that the controller was missing and she politely responded to me by telling me if I need anything, to use my wife’s seat controller (on the window seat) to call for assistance and I would be assisted accordingly. I was surprised by the response that she gave as it felt like my comfort and request for a service that I paid for was undermined, but nonetheless I opted to play it nice and kept my calm. After this I engaged in a conversation with a passenger (Caucasian / White male) who sat next to me on the aisle seat. In the process of having this conversation I asked him if he had paid for his seat. He went ahead to politely tell me that he had been moved from a seat in the back by one of the flight attendants and had not paid any extra fees. During this conversation, he noticed that the charging docks were not working and he needed to charge his iPad to watch his Netflix show (it was on pause). Alarmed by this, he went ahead and flagged one of the flight attendants who without wasting any time acted astonished and as fast as lightning was able to find him a better seat a few rows in front. Please note, all the charging plugs were not working for the three seats. In summary, below are the reasons for the low rating: 1. Charging for a broken seat: Kenya Airways should not charge for a defective seat. If a seat is defective and is paid for, the airlines should work out a way to either refund the customer or move the customer to a better seat – regardless of skin color. 2. Below Par Customer Service: Do not debilitate a customer’s request especially when a paid for service is not delivered – regardless of skin color. Assuming that I am comfortable with having to either keep alerting the flight attendant or relying on my wife’s seat to perform some of the functionality I may need is ridiculous. 3. Biasness / Inequality / Prejudiced Behavior: The Caucasian/ White male was treated with more favor. Not only was he moved around to make sure he was comfortable (free of charge) but all his complaints were resolved immediately without any hesitance. On the contrary, I being a black man of African descent who had paid an additional premium for his seat, I was completely ignored and told to settle for what I got.

Excellent. They canceled our flight & put us up for the night. Then upgraded us. We are impressed

My flight from Nairobi to nyc. My seat made noise and moved around. The two toilets in the back didn’t work well cause you didn’t know if someone was in there cause the light didn’t work. The bathroom doors didn’t lock well either, so I walked in on someone. The crew wasn’t quick or super helpful. When I went to get something they were chatting and they would look at me, continue on with their conversation and finally I would interrupt to get a drink.

If my flight from Heathrow to Nairobi had not been cancelled I would’ve been in kisumu to fly back! And I have still not had my refund! So you have my cash and I’ve got nothing in return. Wonderful!

Great job in making sure that the customer is always having a great time

Is a terrible airline. The seats are tiny, staff are lazy and rude. Everything is a mission for them and they always take forever. Check in and passport control is enough to turn you off Mauritius all together. Let alone the airline. Mauritius is gorgeous and a must visit if you could avoid the airport and Air Mauritius.

Check in and passport and security time’s appalling Not enough staff for the volume of flights departing.

The crew were great as usual. The flight was rescheduled two hours later but delayed by more than an hours to load cargo. The was upsetting because I missed scheduled meetings in Johannesburg.

Though the food was very good ,I think the portions were too big. It was hard to manage everything on that small table. And you really don't feel like eating too much on a long flight. Just a suggestion and it would save you some money too.

Cons: "Apart from beverages with the meal, there was no other offer for any beverage. This is a 4 hour flight. Really uncomfortable"
Pros: "Food was good, entertainment system was good."
Cons: "Crew told me to wait while they eat their meal (on a 4.5 hour flight?) headphones get cleared 20min before landing but all the rubbish gets left on your tray table. delayed departure because the plane was being cleaned, i think if they cleared the rubbish in flight then perhaps it wouldn't be so dirty. Also no information provided as to why the boarding was 30min delayed (COMMUNICATION!)"
Pros: "Seat was very comfortable"
Cons: "Inflight entertainment could be much better. Not much choice of films, particularly latest ones. Headsets very uncomfortable and sound quality poor."
Cons: "General lack of concern for passengers. The kids in the seats next to me had screens that weren’t working and they wouldn’t even try to fix them. despite the fact that the water was there, when I declined the meal but asked for something to drink they refused until later."

We paid to have overhead carry-on baggage. When we got to the gate we were told that our carry on bags would need to be checked and go below because the flight was full. Notably we were nowhere near the last people to board and about 30 other passengers also had to check their carry-on bags. Other than that the flight was fine.

Very bad plain although I paid A business class ticket I was stuck in a stiff fixed seat without any entertainment or Wi Fi for 5 hours I will never ever book a flight on British airline.

Self check in Kiosk did not recognize that I had prepaid for my luggage. This caused a 40 minute delay even though I had my British Airways email receipt for the prepaid luggage.

Crew were very friendly and helpful. They explained to us in detail the delay in our takeoff due to the storm that rolled in from Belfast and did their best to make up the time. Always great to fly BA!

Staff were very helpful. The free WiFi for messages was also very useful to keep in touch

Crew was more interested on looking at their phones than welcoming passengers during boarding.

The crew was very attentive and kept busy serving a variety of treats!

Terrible. Missed my flight to final destination because of delayed British Airways flight. Had to spend 12 hours in airport and $1500 for new plane tickets

The crew on board were all very pleasant and happy to help. The flight had the old business class seats. The departure board in the business lounge did not update and kept on saying ' gate open' but never said boarding. When I got nervous about the departure time and walked to the gate I was told off rudely for being late.

Offered vegetable curry when it was actually tofu which I don’t care for.
