Cons:I was never informed of the mandatory insurance that is required in Costa Rica prior to booking through kayak. Because of this, I bought Allianz insurance. When we picked up the car, suddenly the price went from $88 to $330 because of the "base" Insurance which was apparently worth 3x the car rental. On top of that we still had paid for the Allianz insurance. It was a complete waste of money and we were very unhappy with kayak. I will not use kayak again.Reviewed 6 Jun 2016

Insurance Extra / Counter Not At AirportCons:reserved a car for $10/day, at pick up I was told I was required to buy extra insurance for $40/day. even though I had car rental insurance from my credit card, I was told I had to buy the mandatory insurance or couldn't get the car. I really didn't have the option to shop around at this point. I was told the rental place was at the airport, it was not. Waited 30-45 minutes at both pickup and drop off.Reviewed 9 May 2016

Very bad servicePros:NothingCons:The rental agency is not in the airport. There was nobody to pickup. i had to call using someone else's phone to pick me up. When i went there after doing all the paperwork and etc.. they were giving me a manual transmission car where as i ordered for auto transmission one. I had to cancel the transaction and wait for another hour and rent a car from a near by rental agency. I may have got the rental car at a lower price had i reserved from another place. very poor service.Reviewed 8 Dec 2015

Pros:Very good service.Cons:Needed help from other car companies to have the pick up van come, even though the information stated that reps would be in the terminal. Could be tricky for someone non-Spanish speaking...Reviewed 28 Oct 2015

Terrible customer serviceCons:One of the gents at the rental car agency was not very nice. I asked for a map and he told me they didn't have any. I got a bit upset at that fact. Also, after a reasonable time passed waiting for them to bring the vehicle I went in to ask and he was quite rude with me. Also, they advertised a very nice looking Jeep "or similar" when I booked but we ended up with a piece of junk vehicle with no "pickup". This overall experience was not a pleasant one and definitely will not do business with ACE ever again.Reviewed 24 Mar 2016

Pros:The younger gentleman was very friendly, but  it took an hour for me to actually get the car. There were only 2 other people ahead of me. DON'T BUY THE INSURANCE OFFERED ON THE WEBSITE!! The rental agency doesn't accept it and then sell you their own that doesn't cover anything unless you buy the very expensive option. There was a minor ding on the frame under the passenger side door. They charged me $152USD because of this minor cosmetic dent. That is on top of the $62USD that they charged me for insurance.Cons:The older gentleman that works there had a really poor attitude. He acted as if the car was totaled. I'm sure they will simple apply $5 worth of paint on the ding and pocket the rest.Reviewed 21 Jan 2020

Cons:Purchased online for 88$ only to find out that when I got to Ace in San Jose they told me there is a mandatory insurance. Car ended up being 450$. Absolute scamReviewed 8 May 2016
