Japan Airlines is a difficult airline to check-in on both the app and on-line. It is best to to call and have them walk you through their process. Know that they have limited hours for customer service and may be open only Monday - Friday. Highly suggest that you visit Visit Japan Website and Register for Immigration and Customs.

Itami Airport doesn't open until 5:30am and ticket counters do not open until 6:00am. Overnight stay at airport hotel for early flights worked well.

Airport bag check and check in doesn't open until 5:30AM at Kansai airport so no reason to get there earlier.
Verified travelerFlew with Japan Airlines-Apr 2025
Arrive at the airport early. Checkin is self service and the security check point is very congested with long lines. You may also need a tram to get to your boarding gate.

I wish we had known about the multi airline “Self Check-in” and the self “Bag Drop”. A lot of people seemed unaware of the procedures and had difficulty navigating step one and step two procedures. We had issues with our Bag Drop because it did not function properly and there was nobody available to assist us.

Get there early! Train from Kyoto was difficult to find and get tickets, plus it’s an hour and a half trip! Also Haneda airport is huge and confusing! Recommend layovers of over 1-1/4 hours only.

Go to Domestic Departure area on Terminal 1 and not international area at least 2 hours before your departure time

SQ service is great as always. However, the food quality seems to have gotten a lot worse recently.

Best service airline. The cabin crew is attentive and friendly. Inflight entertainment system is good

Very good flight from Boarding to landing -efficient and comfortable with decent entertainment options

The crew have great customer service but their economy seating isn’t the most comfortable for a 220lbs+ guy and the food wasn’t bad, but wasn’t exceptional, either.

The staff were amazing and very kind. The seats recline a little too far back and are up close when sitting behind.

My groups frequent flyer star allianceUnited airline miles was not accepted. The Singapore premium economy bag had to be requested, it was very lacking- no toothbrush. I paid more than double than economy but could only use the bathrooms sharing with economy which was hardly available and had to wait in line. Is the 2X $ worth it just for a larger seat???? It is questionable. Seats were not that comfortable. My husband’s seat had white stains on it- had to wipe it down. Our headphones did not have covers on it. Food- way too much.

The overall operation needs to be improved. The in-flight services took forever and sometimes ran out of options.

It was a super smooth and comfortable flight even though I was in normal economy. The staff was so nice ☺️

Seamless fussy free flight. Great service as expected of SIA.

I would not have changed anything… It was a perfect fight

It we as a pleasant flight. Good helpful and happy cabin crew. Food was okay, not to write home about. Drinks good. Entertainment okay.. Seat space good , comfort acceptable

Your staff was exceptional. Could teach the other airlines-rules on etiquette, and service. Excellent landings on flights, carried out by your pilots. Only complaint is long delay on return flight in Beijing, onto Vancouver.

Worst than I expected, crew was not attentive, meal was as disgusting , they didn’t even drink selections as they would to other passengers. I felt discriminated

UA is ok. But check in was a very bad experience

It's terrible that we can't do online check in because we didn't buy the tickets directly from Air china. It was not explained until I contacted Chatdeal and we could not sit together.

Food and service are good. Bathroom was lack of lotions and cleaning. That should be improved.

Everything was not satisfactory - the flight was delayed, staffs were ok but they didn't speak English well. I am from east Asia (not Chinese) and they didn't care enough to remember that I wasn't Chinese but persistently spoke chinese to me. The flight announcement in english wasn't clear to understand.

The flight is not bad, but the Business Lounge is not big enough for the quantity of people they accept and there is a limited options for food and beverages.

It was simply bad and on top of that my luggage hasn't been delivered until now. They can't even localize it which is just unacceptable when they are supposed to scan the bar code they put when we check in

We bought premium Economy, thinking it would be more comfortable, but the seat is so narrow ,that my legs and feet are swollen , I can't wear shoes !

The flight was delayed. The staff made us wait in the room that is too small and it was crowded and with no seats available for waiting. They did not tell us why the delay occurred.

China Eastern as a member of Sky Alliance airlines should have the same standards overall of their partners, Besides the seats comforts everything else is bellow the standard for a business class travelers.

Super surprised with the entire experience. Business class is incredible. Flight attendants around the world could learn customer service from these people. Simply fabulous experience all the way around.

Pillow and blanket are dirty. My son got multiple bites during the flight

The crew were excellent, service amazing, blankets and pillow good, cabin temperature perfect, the flight on time, food was unusual selection however plentiful, price for tickets unbeatable through Kayak. Older aeroplanes used by China Eastern was the only down side.

Price is the main attraction. Staff is OK but difficult to communicate with them due to general lack of English. Food is truly abysmal, the main courses (4) were barely edible. The choices for breakfast served at 5:30 am prior to landing at Gatwick airport were Spaghetti Bolognese or seafood fried rice. Choices offered for all 4 mains were either something rice or noodles. Shanghai airport layover is much too long in a very poorly serviced airport. We were unable to use WiFi; private lounges required cash only payment with no ATM or cash exchange open.

For the price we paid, I couldn’t complain. Was good value for money. Service was excellent but food was mediocre. Crew were excellent and spoke English. You will never go hungry. The food was ample but was mediocre. Entertainment limited and wifi doesn’t all allow you to access some social media. The best part was comfortable seats and bed (business class) with a screen to close out the rest of the cabin.

For the price we paid, we had a really good flight. The seats and bed (business class) was extremely comfortable. I have no complaints. The crew were very attentive and helpful. They spoke English and there were no misunderstanding although their English wasn’t perfect or fluent. You will never go hungry as there was ample food and drinks but their food for mediocre. The entertainment was limited to older movies and the wifi didn’t allow you to access some Social media. Apart from the above, it was a very pleasant flight. Would highly recommend them.

The landings were smooth . Being unable to check-in online was terribly stressful and the queue at Haneda exemely long. We paid extra for window seats and did not get them.

2 hours delay on the 1st plane out of the day!!!!!

It was an ANA-flight, which increased the customer service tremendously. Food ok, could’ve been better, though.

Air Canada was delayed on the initial flight causing us to be put on another flight that took us to a different airport that did not have our connecting flight. We had to rebook the flight from Tokyo to Bangkok when we arrived after clearing customs. We spent and additional 8 hours because of this. Return flight was also delayed on departure but we were able to make or connecting flight in Tokyo. The business seats need improvement, the seats are a bit hard for such a long flight.

My entertainment system was not working for the entire trip. I notified the flight attendant but nothing was changed. I did not get chance to have any movie for entertainment for the entire 13 hrs trip.

Not the greatest. Our initial flight to Tokyo got cancelled due to mechanical issues, which was unfortunate however they worked quickly to get us on another flight and refunded my seat ticket. We flew with Air Canada back home and it was not a good flight. The crew never gave us our second meal and I was awake the whole flight so I know they did not come by. The flight itself was rocky and seats were uncomfortable. In general, for an international flight, I do not think it is fair that we have to pay extra to pick our own seats. I’ve been on many international flights and always had the option to pick my seat during the booking or at online check-in. Furthermore, if the airline is going to automatically pick your seat, it should seat groups together instead of seating them apart. If I already pay thousands of dollars for a flight, I should have this option included.

Not to out myself as both a child at heart and kind of a terrible person, but the Pokémon safety video was the first time I watched an airplane safety video in like a decade. It was ADORABLE!! A great way to encourage attention from young and old alike.

I’m writing to share my deep frustration with a recent experience, which I feel reflects a troubling trend in the airline industry—one where customer care often takes a backseat to profit maximization. First, I do want to acknowledge a positive aspect: I appreciated that your team accommodated a seat change due to my medical needs without charging an additional fee. This gesture made a genuine difference during my trip, and I’m thankful for that. That said, the overall experience left me extremely disappointed. The ticket I purchased for myself and a companion turned out to be “basic”—a fare category I now understand to be non-refundable and non-transferable. Unfortunately, my travel companion was involved in a car accident and could not fly. Not only was I unable to receive any kind of reimbursement, but I also couldn't transfer the ticket to someone else, despite the flight being overbooked by three passengers. This inflexibility felt exploitative. To add to the frustration, I had to shoulder additional unexpected expenses: overpriced in-flight food and a costly baggage fee on my return trip. The entire process felt more like a profit-maximizing scheme than a customer service experience. I understand that airlines, like any business, need to remain financially viable. However, creating fare structures that penalize customers during emergencies, while simultaneously overbooking flights, comes across as deeply unfair. It’s hard to feel like a valued passenger in this environment. While I don’t expect much will come of this message, I do hope Air Canada takes this feedback seriously. There’s an opportunity to lead with integrity in an industry where choices for consumers are becoming more limited and experiences increasingly transactional.

Still haven’t made it home. Delayed twice, then cancelled. Will never fly Air Canada again. Horrible experience.

First time flying with Air Canada and very impressed! We will definitely book with them for future trips.

Very comfortable flight, despite being in the middle section, in the middle seat! Airline staff was very accommodating. Food was good and we just became aware of the meal options. When we flew from Toronto to Osaka, we were offered 2 meat dishes. We are pescatarian. The flight attendant went out of her way to bring us food we could eat. We look forward to flying with Air Canada in the future!

THE AIR CANADA CREW NEEDS TO MORE PROFESSIONAL AND COURTEOUS. UPON TIME OF BOARDING, THERE WAS A SPECIFIC AIR CANADA STAFF WHO WAS EXTEMELY RUDE. WE WAITED ON THE SIDE TO WAIT TO BOARD. SHE AGGRESSIVELY PUSHED ONE OF OUR FAMILY MEMBERS ON THE ARM TO SIT WHEN EVERYONE WAS STANDING BY TO BOARD. THEY WERE EXTREMELY UNORGANIZED. EVEN AFTER BOARDING, ONE OF THE STEWARDESS WAS TRYING TO CLOSE THE OVERHEAD LUGGAGE BINS AND I WAS SURPRISED WHEN SHE PUSHED THE PASSENGER'S LEG WITHOUT SAYING "EXCUSE ME". THE STAFF AT AIR CANADA TRULY NEEDS TO LEARN THEIR BOUNDARIES. REGARDING PHYSICAL CONTACT. SUCH BEHAVIOR IS INAPPROPRIATE. AIR CANADA HAS BEEN THE ABSOLUTE WORST EXPERIENCE!!!

Thanks to the kind staff for locating my lost onamori.

Quite ordinary, as might be expected of a budget flight. It was difficult to understand the instructions unless one speaks Japanese, and the seats were quite basic.

Very easy process overall. The staff communicated well and everything was efficient.

Very affordable, smooth check in process, flight attendants were safe and kind, lots of flight availability within Japan.

The seat is so bad Can’t recline the chair

For Travelers with babies, if they can be supported by allowing to carry the Baby stroller upto the Airplane gate, and not submit at the Check-In counter. it will be very convenient. Thankyou.
