FAQs - booking Banjul flights

  • How many airports are there in Gambia and which regions do they serve?

There’s only one airport in Gambia - the Banjul Yundum International Airport. From here, all travellers continue to either the capital, Banjul, or to one of the various tourism destinations throughout the country. It’s a relatively small and unusually-shaped country, wrapped around the Gambia river. The airport and the capital are at the mouth of the river on the Atlantic with the rest of the country and its tourist destination extending eastward along the river.

  • Are there direct flights to Yundum from London?

There are no direct flights between the UK and Yundum Banjul Airport but there are multiple flights that transit through another airport. Lufthansa and Brussels Airlines both fly out of Heathrow (LHR), changing in Brussels. Royal Air Maroc can connect you from Gatwick (LGW) via Casablanca while Turkish Airlines also use Gatwick but transit through Istanbul. Air Senegal takes a longer route out of Gatwick transiting through Dakar and Casablanca. Veuling can get you there through its Barcelona connection.

  • Is it easy to get to other parts of Gambia from Yundum?

Many tourist accommodation providers arrange shuttle buses to meet visitors at Yundum Airport and bring them to the tourist areas around the country. Check with your hotel before you travel to be sure that you are being collected. There are taxis waiting to meet each flight that arrives. The official taxis are yellow with distinctive green stripes. Prices are fixed and published at the airport taxi ranks. As a guide, you can expect to pay around D400-D500 (£6-£7) for a taxi to the city of Banjul. If you don’t have Gambian Dalasi currency and want to pay in a foreign currency, such as Sterling, it’s advised that the price will be significantly higher. You should negotiate and confirm the price before you enter the taxi as there are no meters.

  • Is Yundum Banjul Airport a good gateway to safari trips in Gambia?

Yes, many people choose Yundum Banjul International Airport to take safari trips in the region. For example, it's quite common for tourists to take a four-day safari around the country using Yundum Banjul as your entry and exit point. Tour operators will meet you at the airport and return you there when the safari finishes.

Other passengers travelling through Banjul Airport will find plenty of places to sit and relax inside the Departures Terminal.

  • Do I need a visa to visit Gambia?

You can also extend this 28-day period while in Gambia by visiting the Immigration Office in Banjul. You must also make sure that your UK Passport is valid throughout your trip. A visitor’s fee of around 20 GBP should also be included in the price of your Gambia air ticket. This covers Airport Development and tourism infrastructure. All great. Very efficient. Good emails that kept us in the know

Original flight was canceled, booked another one and find out when checking I was on the waiting list. Horrible experience

Actually this is my first time using airline I was in every single thing that happened throughout our journey, the appearance of the plane inside furnished about the seating the flight attendants and many many more I was so excited throughout thank you Brussels Airlines for the great service.

On board service was decent. I like the legroom at UA that seems to be more than in other airlines

It was really good because the employees were very nice and fun to talk to. The entertainment was nice because they had plenty of movies to watch.

Crew was enthusiastic. Meal was surprisingly good. They came to give water very frequently. Negative that the seat reclining didn't work

That was a short flight by the only time I could actually sleep

How can a national carrier and part of Lufthansa group not even provide complimentary water and a snack in such a long flight ?

The flight went well, only during the flight from Brussels to Vilnius I would have liked if they had at least given us plain water to drink.

The boarding process would have been better. When people are flying internationally and the airline is a member of Star Alliance they cannot have different rules for carryon baggage. Brussels Airlines made us adjust the weight of our carryons based on their rules even though we were flying international and our next flight was with United which does not have weight restrictions for carryons. That was just ridiculous.

My wife and 7 months old baby had a terrible experience traveling, we paid extra for bassinet they didn’t provided.she missed her flight due to late landing of the flight, they were unsupportive to my family due to that my wife and kid suffered a lot.

Both my luggages were never sent from Istanbul. After 10 hour flight from DC to Turkey and another 12 hour layover in Istanbul Airport, I would’ve at least expected to find my luggages when I arrived in Addis Ababa, but that wasn’t the case. After 2 hours of waiting at the luggage carousel, we were told that our luggages would be arriving the next day after midnight. I was already so exhausted, that I hated having to come back to the airport the next day. Thankfully, I received both my luggages the following day. It’s just, the whole experience was exhausting.

Great food, great entertainment and very helpful, caring & attentive staff.

I recently flew with Turkish Airlines, and I can confidently say it was one of the best travel experiences I’ve ever had. From the moment I boarded, the crew was incredibly attentive, warm, and professional. They went above and beyond to ensure everyone was comfortable and well taken care of throughout the flight. The highlight, however, was the food! I’ve flown with many airlines, but Turkish Airlines sets the bar incredibly high when it comes to in-flight dining. Every meal was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The variety of dishes, even on a long-haul flight, was impressive. It felt like dining at a high-end restaurant at 35,000 feet! The seats were comfortable, the entertainment options were great, and the overall atmosphere made the journey enjoyable. Turkish Airlines truly excels in combining luxury and hospitality. I wouldn’t hesitate to fly with them again—highly recommend!

Boarding was chaotic. Cabin noisy. Temperature a bit cool. Bathrooms not cleaned enough.

Service and food were decent, seats are a bit too narrow. Leg room is normal. Bathroom should be cleaned more frequently. WiFi is cumbersome and should be simplified.

The WiFi setup on the plane is needlessly cumbersome. Simplify the interface and login.

they have cancell the flight with no reasons, My parents were in the cold weather in the airport for 24 hours they did not give any hotel and food. I hate Turkish Airline, this is our last time that we ha ve chosen Turkish Airline.

Seat changes at the last minute Horrible checkin process Sad to see excellent airport with very poor service

Horrible, they forgot our luggage, the food was terrible, the crew were rude, the flight was delayed, I hated every aspect of this flight

My luggage got lost and until today there is no solution to the problem. It's still missing

I am writing to demand an immediate refund and compensation for the absolutely unacceptable experience I endured with VUELING this week. On Monday, my flight was canceled, and despite this, I have yet to receive any refund. I was then taken to a hotel in a terrible location, where no food or even water was provided. The next day, I was rebooked on another flight, for which I had to personally cover an additional €50 in transportation costs—only to have that flight canceled as well. After waiting 10 hours, only 10 of us were offered alternative accommodations, while the rest were left stranded. We were forced to remain in this situation until Thursday without a single explanation or proper assistance. During this entire ordeal, we were only provided with breakfast and dinner, while being charged extra for drinks. This level of treatment is completely unacceptable. I expect an immediate refund for the cancelled flights and full compensation for the inconvenience, additional expenses, and the significant distress caused.

Only food for sale. Did not even offer water. No entertainment

Checking was efficient and quick. Adequate luggage space. Food for purchase only at high prices

Nothing. There was no flight. They cancelled the flight with no replacement about 9 hours before takeoff.

The flight was canceled at the last minute. Alternative flight was booked after 6 hours wait in Malaga airport.

Boarding with some sense and communication. It was a total free-for-all everyone coming all at once, no organisation of row numbers or priority.

Horrible, flight cancelled and had to come back the next day

Terrible. For clarity - this was the Level flight to Boston. Not Vueling. Would urge customers to avoid this airline. Gate agent was singularly unhelpful. He was argumentative, rude and went out of his way to ensure that every penny was collected for the baggage (which we realized given how early we were for flight we could have saved hundreds of dollars if we checked in on app). No onboard entertainment or WiFi. Half of the front section was empty because the seats did not work! Plane was falling apart.

No complimentary snacks, but I think that’s a standard in the USA. There were loud drunk Germans sitting in front of us.

The 737-8 is too small for the length of flight especially if there are any delays

The flight was delayed over 2 hours, we should off left the plane2 late passengers as it’s not fair on everyone who’s followed the rules.

Dreamliner. Yes great if maintained. I didn't see anyones screen work consistently during either of our flights. Worse was their ability to not only dump you out of premium but separate couples and seat someone's carer at the opposite end of the aircraft. This poor gentleman had no hand so his partner who assists him, being seated at the other end of the aircraft, well that really showed us all what Tui think :( It was fairly dire all in all, they advertise all the perks of the dreamliner only in reality you don't have the features and they change the windows and colours to suit their constant sales pitches. Ironically they were so low on stock for the return flight that all their sales pitches were a waste of time! Their contract only favours them and 'operational changes' well they cover every excuse and Tui use it. Surprisingly we haven't reinstalled the Tui app or booked with them since. It's a shame as I rated them highly during the pandemic.

One flight attendant not wearing a mask over nose, 50% of passengers not either, and no effort to correct. Boarding was very late with no information - lots of standing around waiting.

Awful. Seats on this Dreamliner really uncomfortable with broken tables. No food selection availability in business class. Poor service. No engagement senior flight attendant spent more time applying make up then speaking to her guests. It appeared that the right side received a different level of service to the left when there were only 8 people. Worst flight I have ever had. A great way to ruin an outstanding two week with this return flight

Flights were okay. Not bad, not good. On time and efficient. Planes are a bit old and run down, even the 787... Casablanca airport, HORRIBLE. no air conditioning, no power outlets, no clear signs to anywhere, old, unfriendly, no restaurants to speak of. Casablanca lounge, HORRIFIC No seats available most of the time, no power outlets working, no food, only water is offered, 1 shower available, unfriendly and inneficient people, no air conditioning, flies and bugs everywhere, extremely old seats and unconfortable. Although with some cleaning crew present, toilettes are .... not too clean.

3 hour delay, very rude flight attendant the food was horrible.

Wait time was very long during boarding. We had to wait a while in the bus which was under the sun.

When the flight landed, it was still going towards the gate, when everybody got up. Nobody cared that the flight was still in "active taxi" mode. But seems like this is common on Air Maroc flights.

1. Boarding - Chaotic, no announcements. 2. Gate Agents - Don't care about anything. 3. Inflight - FA are good and cordial. 4. Landing - Everybody is in a rush to get out because of the crowding at immigration.

This is the worst seat that I ever sat on. The length and width are great but Super uncomfortable. We felt like sitting on marble.

Worst flight experience of my life. It was cancelled and they left us in the airport for 7 hours having no idea what to do.

Had the worst service I have experienced in 45 years of flying internationally (over 100 flights). This was an 8-hour flight and the crew was completely non-responsive to any and all requests for assistance from the 200+ passengers. My wife and I each pressed the button for assistance at least 4 separate times and no crew member ever responded. Looking down the aisle, at any given time at least a dozen passengers request-for-assistance lights were on and no crew member ever assisted any of them either. Notably, it was a very smooth flight with no turbulence, so there was no reason crew members could not provide assistance. Other than two meals - one at the beginning and one at the very end, the crew did not serve water or other drinks at all. We had to get up and walk to the end of the plane to get water ourselves. The only snacks available were saltine crackers. Crew also did not collect trash except immediately after each meal. Plane was a mess and everyone was coughing at the end due to lack of water. We found the crew hanging out in the front of the plane talking to each other and laughing amongst themselves without a care in the world about the 200 passengers. One was just enjoying a book. Don’t ever fly Royal Air Maroc if you can avoid it.

There was a technical problem with the aircraft after we boarded and we had to leave the plane and wait for two hours where we couldn’t talk to anyone. I had a connection in Toronto to Vancouver I obviously missed it. Arriving to Vancouver the flight was canceled and I wasn’t offered any another flights. I had to book one on my own charges to get back home. Also at Casablanca check in. They said our luggage will go to final destination and they did not!
