FAQs - booking Bermuda flights

  • I’m travelling to Bermuda to visit Horseshoe Bay. Which airport should I use?

Horseshoe Bay is a particularly popular attraction in Bermuda. Fly into the main international airport, Bermuda L.F. Wade International Airport, for easy access to this attraction, which is on the south coast of Bermuda. You can then use public transport or a taxi to reach your final destination.

  • Are there taxis available at L.F Wade International Airport?

You will find plenty of taxis available at the airport. Taxi rates are set by the government, so it's easy to budget your trip into town ahead of time. The rate for one to four passengers is around BMD 2.75 (about GBP 2.15) per mile, with a BMD 5.15 (around GBP 4.00) minimum. If you're travelling with five to seven people, it costs roughly BMD 3.50 (approximately GBP 2.75) per mile, with a BMD 6.45 minimum (about GBP 5.00).

  • What direct flights are available from the UK to Bermuda?

There are direct flights to Bermuda from the UK, operated by British Airways. These tend to operate at more popular times of the year, such as around the long school holidays. If you want to travel at a quieter time, most flights from the UK to Bermuda operate with at least one stop, usually somewhere in the USA.

  • Are there buses at L.F Wade International Airport?

There are public buses that stop at L.F Wade International Airport, but there isn't space for luggage, so these are best for anyone who is travelling light. If you're travelling in a large group, there are private minibus services available from a number of different companies, including Bermuda Explore and Bee-Line Transport. However, you'll want to book these before you arrive.

  • Which airline should I fly with from the UK to Bermuda if I want to connect in the US?

There are various airlines that fly this route. If you want quicker transfers from the US, it may be best to fly on American Airlines into Miami or Delta into Atlanta; you’ll then be under 3h away from Bermuda.

  • Can I hire a car at L.F Wade International Airport?

There aren't any hire car companies available at the airport or anywhere else in Bermuda. Instead, if you're hoping to get around the island on your own, you can take a taxi across The Causeway to Hamilton Parish. On the other side of The Causeway, you'll find companies that allow you to hire bicycles, motorcycles and mini-electric cars. Bear in mind that these cars are very small, so you won't be able to fit large suitcases.

  • What visa do I need to travel to Bermuda?

It is not necessary for British passport holders to get a visa to enter Bermuda, but they must provide proof of accommodation. It is possible to stay for up to 90 days visa free in the country, and your passport will need to be valid for the duration of your visit.

  • Can I get a fast track for my flight from the UK to Bermuda?

If you depart from any of London's Airports (LON), Bristol Airport (BRS) or Manchester Airport (MAN), you can usually book Fast Track to get through security faster. L.F Wade International Airport also offers a Fast Track service for arriving passengers through Immigration and help you get to your ground transport.

  • Which Bermuda airport should I fly into to visit Hamilton?

Book a flight into the main international airport in the St George's parish on Bermuda. L.F. Wade International Airport has easy access to the capital city of Hamilton, as once you have landed, you can just hop into a taxi to take you to the city.

  • How can I get from L.F Wade International Airport to the Hamilton Ferry Terminal?

The main ferry terminal is in Hamilton, which is around 30 minutes from the airport. From here, you can take ferries to Warwick, Paget, the Royal Naval Dockyard, and Southampton. Taking the ferry between these destinations is often faster than travelling over land. Remember that tickets need to be purchased in cash.

  • Do I need a car seat in Bermuda?

You won't need to have a child seat in Bermuda. If you prefer your child to use a child seat, consider bringing your own, as they are not commonly offered by taxi companies. If you plan on hiring a small vehicle in Bermuda, bear in mind that some companies don't allow passengers under the age of five, and car seats generally won't fit.

  • There is only one passenger airport in Bermuda, located in St George’s parish, in the north. If you want to get to Hamilton and the rest of the island, you will need to consider onward overland transport, such as buses, taxis or scooters.
  • It is advised to fly into Bermuda with some US dollars on you. These will be easy to use on the island, as they can be exchanged one for one with the Bermudan dollar and will save you having to find a money exchange bureau straight away.

Ongoing flight was delayed. Staff at bag recheck was able to get us on an earlier flight. With only 20 minutes till take off we feared our bags would not make the new earlier flight. We were most delighted that they did and were there when we landed. Delta came through

They split our family into two trips due to flight overbooking. Horrible experience.

Boarding was chaotic. I didn’t finish dinner because I went to bed early. Breakfast omelet was overcooked and tasteless but croissant was better than usual. Plane was dirty—crumbs in every seam and lavatory was poorly maintained (paint peeling, etc.) and toilet paper had not been refreshed before takeoff. No cubby for storage in first and seat was narrow.

It was a good experience except when boarding a female flight attendant did not go out of her way to assist my teenage daughters in finding space for their carry-ons after their compartments were full.

The pilots were good. Disappointing when planes don't have electrical ports

I'm a larger, athletic guy (6'2", 260lbs powerlifter) and I found the seats incredibly uncomfortable with minimal leg room, especially in a window seat. Now, I full understand that being smaller may change my view but even if I was 80lbs less, my legs would be the same size and I was sandwiched between my seat and the seat in front of me.

When checking our bags at the Virgin Atlantic counter, the employee told us that we should go to Delta because we needed to verify our passports and our names. Fortunately the employee organizing the line stopped us and asked why we didn't hand over our suitcases. He sent us to another line and told the employee that we already have the passports verified in the reservation. She understood and received our suitcases. In London they have a general waiting room, where you stay until the gate number of your flight is announced. KAYAK informed us the gate number hours before the airlines did. Just like the flight to London, the legroom is too small. abusive for a flight of so many hours.

Great experience overall. Check in at Austin was congested as they only have about 6 check in kiosks, one was broken, and there was a lot of Spring Break travelers.

I was sitting at comfort +. One of the Asian male crew was so loud when he delivered service. When he asked questions or what food you need, he was shouting. He must be a prison guard before going Delta.

Excellent flight from boarding to landing. Plane crew was informative, warm & attentive.

Arriving at Heathrow was a complete disaster because air bridge broke down and it took ages to find spare stairs! Something that I'd kick Heathrow in the shins for, not Finnair - who were great.

Not great. Flight attendants were aloof, food was mediocre, seats that I paid $150 were given to someone else without any concession. I will probably never use kayak again. Terrible experience from start to finish.

The wine was low quality Finnair label stuff in small bottles and only one small bottle each. Embarassinng. A competing airline served me two generous glasses of a nice South African Shiraz from regular wine bottles, a Beck's beer, and a generous Dewar's White Label on the rocks. Cabin service was good and polite, plane interior was beautiful, but cramped.

All good- I love BA and the professionalism of the crew and pilots.

Great flight- smooth, nice crew, nice clean aircraft, departed a little late but arrived 10 early.

It was listed on my ticket as Finnair but there was no indication that the flight was Finnair. In fact the number was even different. There were no employees there until exactly 2 hours before so we had to wait in line at Iberia and hope

Sorting on line would have been appreciated Onward information on flights missed No ability to get seating arranged before we got to gate Very unfriendly at gate

The flight was Finnair but there was no indications anywhere that the checkin was for Finnair also. There was no one to ask. I think at a minimum they should list the code shares so people don’t stand in the wrong line for an hour.

I booked the flight with Finnair, which made the arrangements for downloading a boarding pass unnecessarily complicated. I wouldn't do that again. Instead I'd book direct with AA.

Flight ok, but me and other two passengers didn’t have connection with the entertainment in our seats. So, no movies, no games, no music… for 9 hours. The crew just told us that there’s nothing they can do but I noticed during the flight that there were empty seats, so they could have offered to us to change seats. Customer service could be better.

They announced at the last minute that international travelers had to checkin at counter. This created a long line and unnecessary stress.

Great! I love Jet Blue. My favorite airline! Very efficient, clean and timely.

40 minute delay before take off after boarding flight. Bright lights throughout night flight due Issues with light panels. In flight Entertainment nonfunctional

I booked this flight using JetBlue points and I was just so happy. The plane was so clean, I had every need met. Thank you!!

One of the crew members, a male complained about my bag being too heavy, which I felt was really unnecessary. I am disabled and would have carried it myself if I thought it was going to be a problem. In addition the landing was rough because everyone gasped in unison which it touched down.

Need a 2nd round of water for a 4+ hour flight

Great crew. Smooth flight that was on time. Boarding is a disaster as usual. Bought more room seat and was Grouo A. The flight was packed by the time I got on. TVs did not work as usual

no wifi and the aircraft was very old with tiny 4” screens.

Did not wait long for wheelchair and attendant to arrive after checking in. Wheeled down to plane Was greeted with a smile when entering the plane Choice of snacks was very limited to 2 items. Seats are uncomfortable. My butt was sore after the 1st hour of flying. Needs better cushioning at seats.

No WiFi No TV Bag of chips I guess it could be worse.

My flight cancelled 3 time and rebooked. It was unexpected for me. Otherwise everything is perfect.

Flight was delayed, some of the outlets for charging were not working, and some of the entertainment screens were also not working

I find it hard to believe that Air Canada still cannot provide non dairy milks for teas and coffees even if they offer vegan food, if preordered. It is about time to stop discriminating against people who live a plant-based diet.

The Air Canada experience wasn’t bad per se. It was the Toronto airport experience that was truly horrific. Terrible crowd, control, poor signage, and power, hungry security people who felt the need to tear open gifts in a hasty and careless fashion, causing damage to my items because they don’t know how to read a damn x-ray. On top of that the attitude was completely disrespectful and callous. I left feeling completely violated.

I couldn’t fault my experience in any way. The plane was clean, comfortable, plenty of legroom and the food was great. I will definitely fly air Canada again.

Our flight from Windsor to Toronto had several delays so we had to drive to Toronto in order to catch our flight to London.

Horrible delays and confusion at all Air Canada counters. Flight was delayed well over 6 hours with little to no communication. Was o my offered a $15 food voucher and $200 Air Canada voucher—-neither of which did I need or have desire to use. Will never fly this airline again.

Moderate size plane, not completely full, easy boarding, some rows with just 2 seats so a couple can have a row to themselves

The staff were on the last leg. But they were still very accommodating and polite. They were all very helpful with getting the bags up and getting people to their seats.

Great TV, easy boarding, wonderful ground crew and flight crew.

Overall flight experience was good. Unfortunately our process getting to our flight was a hit or miss. Our flight was delayed perhaps for the best as getting from terminal to terminal is very long and security had problems with the machines that delayed us getting to our flight. Heathrow security could care-less that you have a flight you are about to miss!

Horrible. Crew is not helpful. Lounge is sub standard and overcrowded. Getting to your plane is underwhelming “via a bus”. Worst experience I have had.

I liked nothing, my connection was missed after a 6hr delay, 3 of those hours were spent trapped on the tarmac going nowhere. They rebooked me with a different airline for the next day but never confirmed my seat, so I had to wait another entire day… after walking around an airport for the whole first day waiting for the front desk to open to get my ticket. A 19hr trip turned into an 80+hr trip. Of course, British airways has no actual customer complaint phone line, so I have heard nothing at all from the airline. Oh, and they lost my bag. This trip cost an additional $3000, several days of missed free time, and some agonizing discomfort from so much wandering around airports and venice trying to find replacement clothing. This sucked.

The online flight scheduler only assigned 3 hours to get from Gatwick to heathrow. This is not enough time for a normal transit between the two airports. I had to run and hire a taxi because the bus and train would take too long. After paying a 150 Taxi I arrived at the gate just before it closed.

Our flight BA638 was cancelled with very short notice. It was supposed to depart at 7:25am. We had left Chichester at 3:30am in order to make the flight, and we were notified of the cancellation while en route to LHR. We were told the cancellation was necessary because a plane had not been scheduled to be at LHR for this flight! We were rescheduled to BA636. This flight was supposed to depart at 11:00am but didn't actually take off until ~12:30pm. Consequently we arrived in Athens several hours late, missing out on half a day of our sightseeing time. We had booked transport with MyTransfers to pick us up at the Athens airport and drive us to our Hotel Adonis. I was unable to get a refund for this service because our flight was so delayed. They required 24 hour notice of pick up time changes. I instead had to pay for a taxi at the airport. I have tried to fill out a request for compensation online but have been unsuccessful. How can I get help for filing a claim?

I had to wait for 10 hours at the airport and no hotel accommodation was provided. That sucks big time.

They can't seem to deliver a delayed bag in less than a week. Is this the 19th century?

There was no entertainment offered or expected, so please disregard my readings of that component. The flight was fantastic. Efficient boarding, takeoff, and even early arrival!

Initially there was delays due to weather so we were grounded. Once we got off the ground, they were quick to turn of the seat belt sign and give us drinks and snacks. No complaints about the flight. It was very full.

The crew were very friendly and helpful. Also, the airline was very strict and not very helpful when I wanted to start by boarding from Heathrow airport instead of Glasgow international airport. I stayed 10 hours in the airport and no hotel or any form of compensation was provided. That sucks.
