FAQs - booking Ghana flights

  • Are direct flights available from the UK to Ghana?

Passengers can fly direct from London Heathrow to Accra Airport when they fly with British Airways. Flights on this route take roughly 7h. On most other flights to Ghana from UK airports, your journey will involve a single layover. For instance, if you fly to Accra from Manchester Airport (MAN) with Brussels Airlines, you will stopover in Brussels. Meanwhile, if you fly from Birmingham Airport (BHX) to Accra with KLM, you will change planes in Amsterdam.

  • What is the recommended airport to fly into to visit Kakum National Park?

If you are planning on taking a trip to Kakum National Park, you should fly directly into Accra Kotoka International Airport (ACC). You can then choose from a variety of travel options, such as hiring a car or catching the bus. The travel duration from the airport varies from around 3 to 5 hours.

  • Do I need a visa to visit Ghana?

UK nationals travelling to Ghana must have a valid UK passport and the correct entry visa. You should apply for a visa online via the Ghana High Commission in advance of your travel. You should also ensure that your passport will remain valid for at least six months after your arrival in Ghana.

  • What airport should I fly into if I want to visit Boti Falls?

Tourists from all over the world travel to this spectacular destination to take in its sights. It would be recommended that you fly into Accra Kotoka International Airport and then drive yourself from the terminal. This journey takes about 1h 30min and is green and lush.

  • I plan to visit the Aburi Botanical Gardens in Ghana. Where should I fly to?

The Aburi Botanical Gardens are a beautiful natural space to explore and are located just over a 1h drive from Accra city centre. This means that any flight from the UK to Accra Kotoka Airport will put you close to this popular tourist attraction.

  • Is public transport available at Ghana airports?

Passengers arriving at Ghana airports may find it easier to use private transport, such as private car hire, rather than relying on public transport. Although buses are available at some airports in Ghana, bus routes can be confusing to visitors and do not always run a regular service. If you land at Accra Airport, you will find car hire companies available inside the terminals. Taxis are also available at ACC, but airport taxis can be expensive. Top tips for finding cheap flights to Ghana

  • Enter your preferred departure airport and travel dates into the search form above to unlock the latest Ghana flight deals.
  • If you are flying to Ghana from London, you can fly from either London Heathrow Airport (LHR) or from London Gatwick (LGW). Heathrow is a good option if you plan to stay in central London before your flight. Meanwhile, Gatwick is a convenient choice if you are travelling from south London.
  • When you’re trying to save some money for your trip, be wise about foreign exchange. Although there are currency exchange options at banks, airports and some hotels, you will be paying a much higher exchange rate if you do use these options in Ghana. Rather, it is wise to visit an exchange branch before you travel.
  • If you want to save money on flights from the UK to Ghana, opt for flights that involve a single stopover on route. While this may add approximately 5h onto your journey, compared with direct flights, it can cut your travel costs significantly.

  • As Accra Kotoka Airport is one of Ghana’s main international hubs, it may be cheaper and easier to fly to Accra from the UK and then take domestic flights to other major cities, such as Tamale or Kumasi. It is possible to fly from Accra to Tamale in around 1h 30min and to Kumasi in around 1h and flights usually cost less than ¢570 (£70).

The worst airline. Cancelled flight 30 min before boarding and rebooked on flight after 3 days.

Mostly fine. Minor delays departing and arriving. Quite a cramped plane, not so much as regards legroom but very narrow seats. Quiet nice food. Non-working USB charger. Flight attendants were helpful but not particularly proactive — one had to work to get their attention (but all was fine once they notice you), very Dutch style:)

I travel frequently. The flight was late again... KLM should really try and be on time

The flight itself it was great nice food the crew were very nice and helpful, Checking in from Birmingham wasn't great long queues for bag dropped, And I had my hand luggage case taken away from me even though I requested to have it with me as I had breakables items. I was told I can not because of the length of the flight with no explanation at all no options was given for me to take my fragile items out of my case it was taken away with hold buggage I find the staff member who was checking me in very unpleasant !! Can we please be advise if the rules have changed about the the carry on hand luggage it will be easier to be advise on booking your tickect if we not allowed to take the hand luggage with me. Overall I had a good flight .

The plane was clean and the staff was friendly. Food and drinks as expected on international flights. The entertainment system was old style, with a pullout controller, and selections not as extensive as on other flights.

I requested wheel chair assistance , it was confirmed via email that inwoood get it but I didn’t get it . The last leg of my trip to Nigeria was the worst.

Well, in my case; the flight was delayed 1 hour, we have to wait in the plane to get green light. And the plane (probably because was a short trip) did not have entertainment or WiFi. No a good experience.

The seats are too cramped in that plane. If you’re above 1,80m consider alternatives or first class I guess… There were no emergency exits to seat somewhere with more legroom

one of my bags was drenched with fish smelling water and all my new clothes bought at dublin and the 23kg checked in bag were all gone waste with very pungent fish smell and also having stains

Everything in general was great, but we left 30 minutes late

First class payment but wife’s seat broken, would recline but not lay flat. On previous flight, delays and ground crew malfunctions connecting jetway made us miss flight to Houston. I asked twice for a cart to assist us getting across the massive Istanbul Airport, but was denied. We are both over 70.

Multiple errors by Turkish airlines and Istanbul Airport kept us from making flight. Stuck in Istanbul!

A good airline, but at checking in, they allocated seats for my wife, and I far away from each other, and to change them, they wanted a payment, such a bad policy, it leaves a bitter taste in the mouth All was good on the plane, good food, but the air hostess was abrupt and a bit rough dealing with the passengers, but one has to find excuses for staff working under pressure

Traveling is Okay, but staying in Istanbul, specially Wi-Fi in airport terrible.

They use a smaller international plane and quarters are tighter, space smaller, and the flight is still 12 hours, then fight attendants are ruff, food is bad, cherry juice spilled by flight attendant and she comes back to ask why have we not changed yet could it be we didn’t have any clothes to change into and seat is all wet and we had to sit there for 12 hours

Food not good, flight attendants not the best, not accommodating very ruff

they were much nicer on this flight. however, my baggage was delayed by one day, and one of my suitcases arrived broken.

M pretty much done with kayak and all other booking webs and apps. Scams all around my long trip.. Losing hundreds of $$ in extra charges and delays. Done with Turkish airline too. I will never use Kayak again for any of my bookings in the future!

I found it okay. Did not think the food was that great. And the service could have been better. Seat was a little cramped. Delay getting to Istanbul made me rush all the way across the airport to get to the connection. This was a not good experience.

easy and perfect boarding; no change in scheduled flights. keep up the good work.

Food quality is deteriorating each time, last year was very good. I avoid the plane food lately.

Been flying on various airlines, all over the world, for 50+ years. The food on Brussels Air was easily the worst I ever endured.

I felt the overall quality of the plane and food service was less than that of their partner airlines, United. An example was wine was served in paper cups in premium economy class. There was no real silverware, napkins or a welcome kit other than a pillow and blanket.

Boarding time was a bit slow causing the flight to not leave right at 5 pm,but other than that it was fine.

More than one hour detail with no explanation and no compensation

my husband's monitor did not work. there was a visibly ill family in my husband's row.

we had to unexpectedly check a bag, the flight was late getting in

Pros: "The crew are doing amazing job and making sure we all stay safe."
Cons: "What could have been better is us; the travelers/passengers. We need to follow every protocol and or precess or procedure put in place by our government and the airlines. United Airline is doing great job keeping us safe while we travel."
Pros: "thanks to the paid upgrading we got 2 seats in the front of the cabin (row 5)"
Cons: "there was NO organisation at all during boarding: the people just stood in line, not respecting 1,5m. Also at the airport security waiting lines no attention to social distancing was respected. At arrival the off-boarding was in groups of 8th rows, not really helpfull either. A big disappointment versus the flight we had from BXL to PORTO !"
Pros: "Crew was very nice. Chocolates were very nice."
Cons: "Come on guys for the price of the ticked you could have served us something more than a sandwich."

I sat in the last row of seats. On an 8 hour flight they allowed folks to stand and talk and drink in the back area near the toilets the whole time. They were at times loud and in the way. It was a little annoying. The crew on this trip were pretty mediocre and the plane was littered with trash when we disembarked.

I didn’t get to London or Amsterdam. They lost my connection flight . I was stuck in Madrid and they rerouted my flight to Austria where my son had to come and pick me up. To get to my destination and they lost my luggage and they’ve told me they can not find it very poor service so have no word for what happened

Boarding process needs to be improved. Business class passengers were told to stand in the economy line and vice versa.

Overall good, but the fact that there was no WiFi was a big deal for me. I am not used to having no WiFi during long flights. I always fly Delta-KLM and they never have had an issue with WiFi.

I asked for a wheelchair. I have a back health condition. I had to walk a lot

I travelled on biz class and f there is no water in the toilette to wash my hands I would expect to have this indicated somehow and not just finding out when I'm there expecting to be able to wash my hands and teeth. Also this is in general that it is always so rushy at the end of these kind of long flights. It is like we are sitting there for 9 hours and the last 1.5 hours just feels like I have time for nothing. Because food comes and at the same time we are close to destination everyone tries to pack their stuff and go to toilette and eat and everything :))) not that like I would know a good solution here I just wanted to raise this :)

Boarding = No one respected the boarding groups. The ground crew did nothing to enforce the boarding system. What is the point of being a Gold member when there are no benefits to that? Tired old plane

Almost 3 hour delay. First because the crew was late. Then a technical problem with the airplane.

Emergency row seat less comfortable than promoted. Restricted by emergency life raft storage.

My selected seat ending up being very uncomfortable both major flights. SFO to London and back. Seat arms did not go up so it was not like suggest by BA staff. On return flight my seat had a life raft barrier in front off me and large man beside me.

3 hours late, came at my final destination without any of my luggage.

The service was terrible. We weren’t allowed to take water on the flight and the drinks were offered only at the end of the meal. When we used the button to call the flight attendants, they never showed up and when my daughter’s drink was spilled due to turbulences, she asked for something to clean her pants at least 4 times and eventually they gave her a tissue. The flight attendants were rude and overall the flight was terrible!

Delays with no communication. Broken business class seat and no one seems to care or help.

Adequate. Served our purpose of getting there safely. Nothing to rave about. Decent value for the amount paid

Old planes that are not being maintained with at least basic cleaning. Plane smells awful, bathrooms not cleaned either. Customer service probably one of the worst I have experienced.

Bad service in la RAM from beginning to end. The crew ladies are impolite and rude and insensitive to passengers requests. I do not recommend traveling with Royal Air Maroc (La RAM) - worst service.

Old aircraft with a terrible business class setup and poor connection experience in Casablanca. Strongly suggest you pay a bit more and fly a different airline.

when we ask for water or any help nobody care.. they are too arrogant

Nothing. Everything, the service the delayed plane and communications to passengers, the boarding, the food access before flight, no aircon on the plane until high altitudes and super long wait for baggage claim with no direction on tv signs.

I thought it was great because the seats were really comfortable for the long flight. The food was just ok, and could have been a bit better.
