FAQs - booking Greek islands flights

  • Is there any way to avoid having a connecting flight from London to the Greek islands?

Unfortunately, there are no direct flights from London to any of Greece's islands. If you're visiting Greece's islands but would prefer to complete part of your journey by public transport, rather than have a connecting flight, you can fly into Athens Airport (ATH) instead. From Athens, you can take public transport to Piraeus Port and a ferry to the islands. This is particularly useful if you are visiting islands without an airport, like Kea or Karystos.

  • Where do flights stop between London and the Greek islands?

Almost every flight from any London airport to any Greek island stops at Athens Airport (ATH). The good news is Athens Airport has plenty of activities to keep you occupied while you wait for your connecting flight. The airport has a number of permanent exhibitions including an art gallery and an archaeological museum. Plus there are often unique temporary exhibitions on display.

  • Which airport should I fly to in Crete?

Crete is Greece's largest island and it is home to three airports. Heraklion (HER) is usually the cheapest option, with flights departing from all of London's major airports. It is the most convenient option for many travellers, right in the centre of Crete. If you're heading to the northwest part of the island you might prefer to arrive at Chania Airport (CHQ) and if you're heading northeast Sitia is the best option. However, flights to Sitia aren't always running so you could choose between Heraklion Airport on Crete, or Karpathos Airport (AOK) on the island just east of Crete.

  • Which is the most convenient departure airport in London?

Every airport in London has its advantages. Heathrow is one of the best for travellers with young children as it has several play areas scattered throughout the terminal. Gatwick (LGW), Luton (LTN), and Stansted (STN) often have low-cost airlines that fly to Greece's islands. You can get to London City (LCY) on the DLR Line in just 20 minutes, making it ideal for those who don't want to pay extra for an express train. You can find flights to different Greek islands from all these airports, so you can simply choose the one that suits you best.

  • How does KAYAK find such low prices on flights from London to Greek islands?

KAYAK is a travel search engine. That means we look across the web to find the best prices we can find for our users. With over 2 billion flight queries processed yearly, we are able to display a variety of prices and options on flights from London to Greek islands.

  • How does KAYAK's flight Price Forecast tool help me choose the right time to buy my flight ticket from London to Greek islands?

KAYAK’s flight Price Forecast tool uses historical data to determine whether the price for a flight from London to Greek islands is likely to change within 7 days, so travellers know whether to wait or book now.

  • What is the Hacker Fare option on flights from London to Greek islands?

Hacker Fares allow you to combine one-way tickets in order to save you money over a traditional return ticket. You could then fly from London to Greek islands with an airline and back with another airline.

  • What is KAYAK's "flexible dates" feature and why should I care when looking for a flight from London to Greek islands?

Sometimes travel dates aren't set in stone. If your preferred travel dates have some wiggle room, flexible dates will show you all the options when flying from London to Greek islands up to 3 days before/after your preferred dates. You can then pick the flights that suit you best.

Top tips for finding a cheap flight from London to Greek islands

  • If you're visiting islands further up north, Corfu Airport (CFU) is usually the best option. This is one of the most popular Greek islands so you can often find inexpensive flights from London arriving here.
  • If you're visiting Naxos, consider flying into Parikia Paros Airport (PAS). Flights arriving at Paros tend to be significantly less expensive and you can take a ferry from Paros to Naxos in a little over an hour.
  • Many flights from London to the Greek islands are operated by Aegean Airlines. Aegean Airlines has a lounge at Heathrow Airport (LHR) that is open to their Business Class passengers and Star Alliance Gold Members.
  • Note that flights from London to the Greek islands often include a self-transfer. This means you will have to go through security and check back in. One route you can avoid this with is on flights from Heathrow to Corfu with Sky Express.
  • Depending on which Greek islands you're visiting, it might be useful to land at Dalaman Airport (DLM) on Turkey's mainland. Islands like Rhodes and Kos are closer to Dalaman than to Athens.

Seat spacing good ( I am tall), very friendly and competent cabin crew. Good updates from flight deck. Excellent boarding and disembarcation

Generally excellent but a couple of areas could be improved. After boarding we were delayed a full 20 mins whilst various ground crew, flight crew, captain faffed around counting and recounting passengers. Said discrepancy between computer and manual. All OK in the end. So why o why did it take 20 mins to find all OK? No sense of urgency shown Secondly the seat base is just not supportive/resilienfor a 4½ hour journey - backside really aching by journey end.

Waiting for 2 people to come through security that delayed the flight. Everyone else made it on time, should have left without them. Flight was cold.

The staff are just so friendly travelling alone was a bit scary but they made me feel comfortable and nothing was to much bother I loved how one of the girls was talking to the old ladies she really took time thank you jet2 shame I can’t get home with u guys 🥲

Crew was nice. Plane was crowded, Seats wouldn’t lean back. No free treats or drinks (not even water).

The flight was over an hour late taking off. Air traffic control on the outward flight caused the delay. Horrendous passport queue at Malaga. Families with children must dread it. Another Brexit negative

On time flight. Reasonable comfortable but a bit cramped. Excellent jet 2 staff as usual.

This is my second flight with jet 2. Both been great - lovely helpful staff. Will fly with you again

Felt very cramped, seat quality poor and temp way too warm with little ventilation. Persistent ramming of duty free ‘bargains’ donut throats. Food & drink service glacially slow.

A good flight with friendly crew and check-in but disembarking was chaotic and badly managed

On time departure; arrived early into Faro. Air Malta operating flight, crew friendly and efficient.

I didn't eat any food so can't comment on that. The prices on the plane are extortionate (as are all prices on planes). Everything else was seemless and a great experience

I need assistance and I could not fault it at all. I suffer anxiety and I was always put at ease by assistance staff, and the banter was good. On board the staff was so very nice and kind and showed empathy. Thank you to them. It was my first time travelling since I lost my husband and was so grateful to them.

Great flight just took some time to board even when lining up early for the flight, even taking off took longer then expected.

Take off was great but landing is always with a bump.

Flight was delayed by 1 hour 45 minutes. Aircraft was cramped, dirty and uncomfortable. Boarding staff more interested in charging you for oversize baggage than getting you on board. Overall not a pleasant experience.

A delay of almost 3 hours. It was evident that the staff wanted us to board urgently, to the point of rudeness, to avoid paying compensation

It's not the staff's fault. The cabin crew do their best but the setup in Stansted Airport by Ryanair is poor. The herding of people like cattle is unacceptable before boarding and is something that's in every airport but only in Stansted have I seen the queueing of passengers outside the plane on the tarmac and the crew only turning up with maybe 5 minutes to depart. This is a resource issue . Yes prices are good but seemingly comes with a price of poor treatment of customers. I'll pay more next time

On time arrival but the aircraft had seen better days and needed a deep clean.

It was appalling, full of young people who were drunk and disobeying instructions to sit down. Crew did nothing to enforce. There was a Ryanair pilot sitting in the aisle opposite me who talked through out the safety briefing so loudly I couldn’t hear. Whole thing felt unsafe

Whole way through - far more professional and slick than I expected

Good news was that Bag Check was open two and a half hours before the flight, which is essential with the chaotic immigration process. Flight was okay, but sitting at the back of the aircraft, 3 overhead bins on both sides were filled with crew bags and other misc items, so we couldn't put our cabin bags anywhere near us. To add insult, twice the crew managed to drop items that they were taking out of the overhead bins onto my wife's head, who was sitting in an aisle seat.

It was good; the only down side is that once you get to the airport everything is self service, there is no one assisting. I felt like I was working while I was on vacation during the check in process and dropping off the luggage. Really uncertain on what the airlines use payroll nowadays.

You need to make signage at Berlin Airport clearer. Having checked in online we had our boarding passes onlour phones. You do not make it clear that you need to check in again to receive a printed luggage tag. You get to baggage drop off and it says you can only do it with a luggage tag BUT not how to get this.

It was good except they could offer free water and tea/coffe

Sitting on the last row in between the aisle and a massive person, all people going to the bathroom bumped into me including the flight attendants.

Sat at rear of aircraft and was very cold. As a frequent flyer for many years, this is was the coldest I have ever been. Other passengers and some crew were complaining how cold it was. Sitting near the doors always risks being colder, just the way the aircraft works - but this was exceptional, bring a good jumper. Everything else was pretty standard easyJet - good value low cost carrier.

The best budget airline in Europe. Flight was on time, crew friendly and worked hard during flight and were able to meet our needs. Only downside (not the airline's fault), there were no rear steps.

It was transportation nothing more. I will give a positive rating over Ryanair. We missed our Ryanair flight the night before and received rude and unconcerned treatment from the Ryanair customer service. It was late. We were very tired and stressed after doing our best to get to the airport. The so called customer service ladies were completely unconcerned from the start. Aside from that, the flight to London seemed to be their opportunity for advertising. No time to relax as attendants were constantly in the aisle selling. I will never fly Ryanair again!!

Boarding and disembarking were smooth. Not offering free water was cheap ... I've never encountered that before on a flight.

The map feature on the display at the seat had challenges. The biggest issue was the flight had no WIFI. Most of the smaller planes now have free WIFI. American Airlines on the flight over had WIFI you could purchase. With 8-10 hours on a single flight, the ability to do work via WIFI is essential!!

A shout-out to the flight attendent, Lauren, who was the main person assisting me. She was amazing - perfect balance of bright, cheerful, engaging, yet formal

Cramped seating but standard in all smaller aircrafts today no matter what airlines. Crew very helpful, friendly & attentive so makes up for that.

Wonderful business class flight in a lovely new plane with an excellent crew

OK, except for a cabin attendant's lack of attention.

efficient. on time. cabin crew were very professional and very nice to deal with. would definately fly BA again.

It was great overall. A few slight improvements could be made on the onboarding process at the Gates with announcements and clarity of communications (both at the gate and in flight). The movies in the entertainment options could be improved for bollywood, hollywood.

I alrady responded to this request, and expllaned at length that this was the worst flying experience in my 77 years. I will NEVER fly BA again.

Airbus A350 is poorly designed for wheelchair users and reduced mobility passengers. The angle of the pods makes it awkward to transfer. I was able to but I have ab stability. It could be a real challenge for people with more severe mobility impairments. You'd think Airbus would have come up with a solution for this or thought more about us disabled folks more when designing this aircraft.

The crew has always been great on BA. They are very friendly and accommodating. I like that they have vegetarian options already in the menu. And the free wine is a nice perk.) I noticed (both directions of my trip) minor upgrades/ replacements needed on the plane itself (touch screen didn't work with touch; bathroom light didn't go on). However, this is one of my favorite airlines.

Missed slot to leave so we were on the plane for an extra hour. The seats were really uncomfortable and the food was poor. The experience makes me think twice about flying as I suspect they are all similar.

Fine, charter flights. Plane full, and staff nice and friendly. No option for free food or drink. Entertainment through paid app.

The 737-8 is too small for the length of flight especially if there are any delays

The flight was delayed over 2 hours, we should off left the plane2 late passengers as it’s not fair on everyone who’s followed the rules.

Dreamliner. Yes great if maintained. I didn't see anyones screen work consistently during either of our flights. Worse was their ability to not only dump you out of premium but separate couples and seat someone's carer at the opposite end of the aircraft. This poor gentleman had no hand so his partner who assists him, being seated at the other end of the aircraft, well that really showed us all what Tui think :( It was fairly dire all in all, they advertise all the perks of the dreamliner only in reality you don't have the features and they change the windows and colours to suit their constant sales pitches. Ironically they were so low on stock for the return flight that all their sales pitches were a waste of time! Their contract only favours them and 'operational changes' well they cover every excuse and Tui use it. Surprisingly we haven't reinstalled the Tui app or booked with them since. It's a shame as I rated them highly during the pandemic.

One flight attendant not wearing a mask over nose, 50% of passengers not either, and no effort to correct. Boarding was very late with no information - lots of standing around waiting.
