FAQs - booking Turkey flights

  • Can I fly directly from London to Turkey?

You can catch direct flights to Turkey with various airlines, departing either from London Stansted or Heathrow. Non-stop flights from Heathrow are predominantly operated by Turkish Airlines, whilst those from Stansted are serviced by Pegasus Airlines, Jet2 and AnadoluJet. There isn’t much difference in flight duration between the different carriers, and the average flying time is around 3h 50min.

  • Where will I land in Turkey?

You’ll either land in the capital Istanbul or in Antalya. Istanbul’s two major airports, Istanbul Airport (IST) and Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen (SAW), are busy international airports with modern amenities. IST is the larger of the two and the country’s hub for Pegasus, Lufthansa and Qatar Airways. Antalya Airport (AYT) is located on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast. It’s a smaller airport, mainly handling leisure flights of holidaymakers in summer. All flights to Antalya leave from Stansted Airport, whilst you can fly to both Istanbul airports from Heathrow and Stansted.

  • Which London airport has the most comprehensive facilities?

Heathrow is London’s largest and best-equipped airport. On top of a plethora of food and drink outlets, it offers full personalised assistance for travellers with limited mobility as well as extensive family support amenities. The latter include children’s Stay & Play areas and baby changing and feeding rooms. One of the most popular facilities is the airport’s Reserve and Collect service. It allows you to order from the duty-free shops online before your date of travel and simply collect your purchases when you arrive at the terminal.

  • Do I need a visa to visit Turkey?

UK citizens travelling to Turkey do not need a visa. You are free to make as many visits to the country as you like, up to a limit of 90 days accumulated over any 180 days. Top tips for finding a cheap flight from London to Turkey

  • While Istanbul is the main tourist city and airline hub in Turkey, consider catching a connecting flight to Ankara Esenboga Airport (ESB), roughly in the middle of Turkey, to be more centrally placed to tour the country.
  • You can fly to Turkey from virtually any London airport, including London Luton (LTN) and London City (LCY), but Heathrow (LHR) and Stansted (STN) offer the widest choice of airlines and flight options.
  • To find the cheapest direct flights, look on KAYAK for Jet2 departures from London Stansted. Although you can also get budget one-stop flights from Stansted on Ryanair, these take considerably longer.
  • There isn’t any public transport from Istanbul Airport (IST), so either hire a car or take a taxi or Jayride shuttle. The trip to the city centre will take about 32min, costing roughly between ₺140 (£10) and ₺150 (£11.50).
  • If you’re driving in Turkey, remember that infants under the age of 12 months must travel in a rear-facing child seat in the back of the car. Older kids up to 12 years old can sit in a front-facing seat. Car hire companies must provide these by law.

flight was full and folks coming from Dubai all wear this strong perfume (OUD) which is annoying. Also, not sure why but these fools all stand up and get ready to bail once the plane stops. they seem to all run for the door which is funny AF. Plane was a 2 4 2 configuration and kind of an older plane with USB connection. Food wasn't that great either. Not sure i'd take this airline again since i have no plans on going to Istanbul again. Emirates is definitely better if you want to go from US to DXB,

I had ordered gluten free vegetarian but I got chicken instead. I wasn’t able to eat the meal. It’s hard not having food to eat when it’s an international flight. I don’t want to complain but when it’s a 14 hours flight. It would be nice to have something to eat.

Amazing service on board in business class. The lounges are also great. The inflight entertainment could do with a larger selection and the food choices more but overall, very pleased.

Horrible, hated every part of it. They do not have business class- just tried to make one row. Boarding was a mess- felt like hungry people fighting for food. Will never ever travel in Indigo

Overall it was good. Food was bad. I ordered gluten free vegetarian meal. But I got gluten free chicken for my long flight from Seattle to Istanbul. I don’t eat any kind of meat. Second meal I got eggplant with meat which I couldn’t eat. I don’t understand why we can’t get gluten free vegetarian meal for a 12 hour flight. I eat the bread and that was it.

So boarding is a little slow when you fly 787 but on the 777 the business class had its own entrance. The entertainment can be a little bit more up to date Other than that it was a great experience food and service was great

I paid $150 to upgrade to this seat. My exit row seat had ample leg room BUT the collapsable table was broken so my food tray and drinks slid over to my lap, the screen malfunctioned.

As a big guy the seats are way too small for me. Would prefer more comfortable seats on these long haul flights.

Very bad this airline changes my schedule date of travel and get me stranded in Istanbul for three days, paid for only one day hotel accommodation with only one breakfast and i had to pay for lunches ,and dinners and hotel accommodations for the two and half days

Bad confort, bad seat take advantage of the political conflict to double the price

The food and so are to expensive and old . Crew whas not very friendly . Apparently some other passenger can just Push through the waiting people to board while almost punching me and a father with a child down the stairs. Its always something with easy jet . The seats of row 26 where lose . And for a guy of my size there is absolutely no leg room at all .

Nice to fly out of Orly smaller easier to navigate airport. Being able to receive boarding pass well in advance of trip was comforting to know all travel was in order.

Liked. The check-in was pretty quick as they had 5 desks working.

Generally a good experience except for boarding in Naples on the flight back to London. We were all standing around for at least 20 minutes maybe longer as there was no seating.

Seats, WC,sizes for today's generation adults, and if technical problems arise a complimentary coffee, water nice for waiting one hours, the rest is perfect (pilot and cabin crew)

Boarding was smooth and quick. Flight departed on time. Equally evacuation upon landing was from both the front door and the back doors. Bags were on the conveyor belts before I got there. Excellent service.

First -the flight was late - more than two hours Second, not even a bottle of water at bord to give for free for this inconvenience. Three-at landing ive realised that I've lost one of my ear plug headphones and been very desperate to find it with my torch, the crew not helped at all more than that they asked to leave the plane as everyone did before me. This was the last flight from that day- extra 5 min for me with a bit of help from crew - would have bring a super review. I guess this days humanity disappeared!

I got caught using a stolen credit card number. Michelle Siziba is my name Nice to London Gatwick on 7/31/25.

Not happy with price of luggage or that we had no choice but to pay whether cabin or hold. I didn't book seats but this is unnecessary extra money along with suitcase

We accidentally purchased twice the bags we needed. Our fault, but the ticket was not clear to us, and it asked us to purchase bags at checkin. When we notified them to get credit back at the airport, they said to contact customer service. We flew the flight and then contracted customer service. They said no credits after the flight has flown. Not customer service oriented at all. They know we didn’t check that many bags and kept our money for a service they did not provide. Be aware and very careful of what you are purchasing from them because they will not make it right if there is an error.

Online check-in was unavailable for my flight. So I waited 40 min in the queue at the check-in counter. Then, unlike any other airline in the world (and I am a very frequent international flyer) Pegasus was adamant that my CPAP was just another carry on and that I had to pay extra for it. Then, after I had paid in advance for a seat, they insisted I could not sit in an exit row because I was over 60 years old (I'm clearly in good shape and buy exit row seats more or less weekly). We pushed back harder and harder and insisted on talking to the station chief, who spoke with the counter staff by phone (not to me) and eventually relented. Experience on boarf was ok-- for a budget airline.

You adjourned my flight by 1h 30 mns and only updated me 1h30 mns before the new scheduled flight. I submitted an email to Kayak asking for a refund. It was the most stressful experience I've had.

Not because when i try to do check in there is only in turkish language i can not select other language

Don't fly Pegasus, terrible service at the airport and boarding was really bad. Both flights I took with them were significantly late. This flight had us all changing the gate at the last moment and it was chaos.withour explanation or apology. The planes have seats that don't recline and seats are really hard. The crew on board was good both flights, but that is the only positive thing I can say about this airline. It's not worth it and I won't be flying them again.

The airport staff were some of the worst I've ever flown, and I fly at least 50x every year. From the staff at the gate, to the check in staff, to the ticketing sales staff. My experience in Instanbul was so bad Ill.never fly Pegasus again. They were incredibly rude, dismissive and not helpful whatsoever. This is the worst of the worst if you want to fly a budget airline I'd go elsewhere. The airplane seats are really uncomfortable and don't recline at all, you get charged for every single thing so in the end you will pay more flying with them. The crew on the plane were the only kind people we encountered with Pegasus.

Pegasus Airlines which is the most efficient and cost worth low cost airline all over the Europe

Flight from London was delayed and we had to hurry up to catch the connecting flight to Riyadh

The crew were outstandingly kind and cheerful. We carried our cat and they offered help.

Late departure. No announcements. Boarding was a disaster. Some kind of technical issue scanning boarding passes.

Fight kept delaying, didn’t land till 10pm, after custom etc. it’s after 11pm. This leaves limited options but to take expensive taxi, then driver demands for more $$ Flight offers absolutely nothing, not even water

Late flight, lost luggage, no customer representative or online tracking luggage

Horrible experience, no one has any answers especially if you are just using the airline for connection. The planes are old, the crew did not understand English and made no attempt to explain.

Terrible flight mainly due to the emergency landing caused by a tyre blow out on take off and late landing at Gatwick which was rough and then once we stopped we weee surrounded by emergency services. Nobody informed us of what was happening and we were all scared due to the smell of aviation fuel throughout the cockpit. When we eventually got off the flight with the help of the emergency services we boarded buses that took us to the arrivals area where we waited over 3 hours for our baggage. Poor communication throughout and was left feeling shaken and distressed. Never flying with sunexpress again.

Sat in line to check in for 3 hours because this prehistoric airline doesn’t allow for online checkin.

Bad check-in. No online check in available. Family wasn’t seated together.

Hi That was mistake with send me ticket That was wrong date , becouse of 12. April Was 11. April I bought one Way igen in the airport!!! Problem with check in Problem with not send email for check-in I must have my money back 750kr for buy again ticket !! Thanks Kolsom

Not a great selection of food and the snacks were quite pricey. No entertainment at all, not even a magazine to read, but hey, it's a budget airline. The flight departed on time and arrived on time, so no complaints.

Disorganized service and aging equipment paired with inexperienced personnel. This was not what my husband and I paid for.

It didn't happen; Sun Express cancelled the flight, even more, the route to that destination. I got a full refund, which of course was not enough to buy a new ticket so close to the date of travel

Very efficient boarding. Plane lready for take ooff10 minutes before time.

Great crew. Seats do not recline :( but it is budget so i should have known. Otherwise comfy leather chair. Slight slim chair but again budget so expected. No entertainment do makes journey boring. Recommend packing plenty of snacks and games or download plenty of films and music in your device. Staff excellent. Clean flight. On time.

Both of my flights had issues with their time slot with air traffic control, so they left over an hour late and the flight back to London was delayed by over an hour. Please provide more clarity about baggage requirements on booking sites, your website and within the app. I had to pay for extra bags at the airport when departing London, because they didn’t specify that your carry on bag can only be a backpack and not a trolley, my trolley bag fit the size requirements of the backpack but still I was made to pay

The crew at Check-in was very helpful. It’s was appreciate.

It’s a budget airline. You get what you pay for. They insisted on getting us out of the gate and into our slot on time. They got us to the destination safely. Aircraft was clean and well maintained. What more could we want

Half an hour delay. Squeezed into a small Departure Lounge with very few seats. Noisy flight with screaming unruly kids. Loud IPads and Phones. Heaven!

Were delayed in the airport for 5 hours with no explanation. Flight kept getting delayed by an hour at a time and wizz air staff were no where to be found

The flight was delayed 5 hours and I'm and invalid,I wan a refund for this

The cabin crew on that flight were super fantastic and super helpful. They were so polite and considerate that i felt i travelled with a 5star airline.

Delayed delayed delayed - always with Wizzair. Staff were friendly and well mannered but clearly the company is unorganized and the aircrafts are outdated.
