Cons: The whole experience was terrible. It doesn't deserve its star rating. The rooms were shocking with a flood in the bathroom every morning as the shower was drainless! The decor was done in cheap plastic like a motel. The food was sub standard.

Pros: We stayed in Barcelo Torre de Madrid late August 2019 for 3 nights. I was staying with my teenage daughter. We had the most fabulous room and it was so so clean. The facilities were excellent. The staff were extremely friendly and professional. The breakfast was probably the best hotel breakfast I've ever had. The metro stop is just across the road from the hotel entrance but regardless, everything was within walking distance. Excellent and we can't wait to go back!

My son (of 9 years) was still enjoying his swim, but, there was no discussion possible. I understand they like to close on time, though. But, this could have been said nicer.

Pros: We absolutely LOVED our stay at Axel Hotel. We were pleasantly greeted by the hotel concierge, Alberto, who graciously upgraded up to a honeymoon suite for our stay. He was friendly, welcoming, and provided us with great insights about the city. The hotel over exceeded our expectations. It was immaculate, clean, and had wonderful amenities. My wife and I did not want to leave! It also featured a wonderful sky bar and pool which provided a great vibe for both "day" and "night" life- with great music and drinks and snacks by the bar.

We are indian so maybe he was racist but I could not believe how he spoke to me when I was simply asking him to look for a Real Madrid bag with some Madrid tops in it that our Betfair representatives had left behind by mistake. We had limited details about the names on the back of the shirt but told the guy it had 3 shirts in a Madrid paper bag. He had also been told by the betfair reps that we (aswani family) would be coming to collect the stuff. I understand there are security measures in place to protect peoples belongings but he should not be working in a customer services role if he has 0 peoples skills. Very disappointed!

Cons: Worst stay in a hotel in a long time. Where do I start.... If you tick the box "fitness centre" I expect hotels that have a gym. Not hotels that make you pay extra for using a gym, and then walk through torrential rain to a nearby gym in the neighborhood. Rooms are tiny, and we could access only one power outlet because the others were blocked by the fridge which was so heavy that we couldn't move it out of the way. On top of everything, housekeeping managed to unplug our device every single day so that we made an effort to come back in the afternoon only to be able to plug it back in. Bathroom door couldn't be closed properly so it always sprang open again... And if all that wasn't enough, we had to change rooms because water started dripping from the ceiling in the bathroom - enough to fill a glass halfway in less than 2 minutes. Cons: This hotel doesn’t seem like a five star to me, definitely a solid four. There was a luke-warm reception when arriving, no one was at the door and there was no one to assist with bags or show us the room. Overall it wasn’t a very welcoming experience. There was a similar experience when trying to check out. The main receptionist at the desk was dealing with another guest however there was another receptionist (or staff member) at a different desk busy on her computer and ignoring me. I just placed my room keys on the desk and left as I couldn’t wait too long. There is also no valet parking, something which is usually quite common for five star properties (certainly is the case for the Villa Real which I’ve stayed at). I parked at the NH car park down the road and tried querying with staff whether there were any discounts due to us staying at an NH hotel. This was something which was never answered.

The location is great: you can walk to almost everything - museums like the not to miss El Prado are just a 6-7 minutes walk, El Retiro park is also close by, the beautiful plaza major is like a 20 minutes walk, 5 more minutes and your at the royal palace and al Mudena cathedral. Also Atocha train and metro station is just 5 easy minutes away. Plus, right in front of the hotel, I mean just at the door: taxi stops, several bus stops.. We stayed on 2 separate days and, in between, traveled by train to Lisbon: they very kindly kept our heavy luggage for 4 days until we came back, which allowed us to travel light. We are very thankful for that. Rooms are comfy and well furnished.

Cons: One thing I didn't like on our second stay, the room wasn't very clean and the kettle had coffee remains. When I informed the person in charge, the reply was that it was actually stained and needed extra cleaning time... Their friendliness and attention to detail was second to none. Each staff member went the extra mile to ensure my stay at their hotel was outstanding. As the adgit goes, it about location, location, location - and this Hotel is right bang smack in the middle of Madrid's tourist, restaurant and shopping areas.

Pros: The location is fantastic, but since I already know Madrid I knew this going it. It's about a block and a half from the Plaza Espana metro and it's very accessible to pretty much everything. I also liked that they had a free mini bar though there were just a couple of Pepsi's, bottles of waters, a couple of juice boxes, and an alcohol free beer. It was still a nice bonus. Another surprise was how big the bathroom was, nearly as big as the bedroom and there is a remote control for the bed that elivates it. The room was also really clean.

Cons: I was disappointed actually, despite of all the things I said prior. It's listed as a 4 star hotel so I had high expectations and it didn't meet them. The room was an interior room so there was no view, fair enough though, I guess they can't all be. There was only shampoo/ body gel in the shower, I'd fully expected if not tiny bottles of each, then dispensers for all three. Also the decor was quite outdated looking, not old fashioned in a tasteful way, but outdated. Like it was still stuck in the 80's. One other point, I was really excited about the spa, but that was the most disappointing part. No seperate changing rooms, 1/2 the jets didn't work and the jacuzzi was tepid, also the sauna was broken.

Cons: The room Air conditioning was almost non existent. It was very warm in Madrid when we stayed. I need to be under the covers when I sleep. The pillows were the worst I have ever encountered! They were long and thin so they offered no head support. If you folded them in half it was worse because it became very firm and uncomfortable like sleeping on a bath towel that was rolled up and then folded in half. I need absolute darkness to sleep. The light illuminating from the TV literally lit the room up. It wasn't until our last night that I figured to cover the TV with blankets. The walls and ceilings seem thin because I heard banging and conversations going on in other rooms, both above and on the side of me. You could even hear the people across the hall. The complimentary breakfast buffet also was not worth even going to. Everything was not only substandard and cheap, but while we were there the hotel was at capacity, so the buffet area was extremely loud, and everyone was grabbing food as fast as they could. We ate breakfast outside each day after that. Bottom line...Spend a few extra bucks for a more comfortable hotel, with a better breakfast!
