FAQs - booking Azores flights

  • Which routes have the fewest stopovers?

There are currently no direct routes to the Azores from London. Flights to Lajes (TER), Ponta Delgada (PDL) and Vila do Porto (OPO) usually have just one stop in Lisbon (LIS). The other islands will often have two stops, one in Lisbon and one on a different Azores island. Lajes and Ponta Delgada are the most common stopover airports in the archipelago. Some routes will stop in Porto (OPO), Portugal, instead of Lisbon.

  • Which London airports operate flights to all Azores islands?

Heathrow is the only London airport that operates flights to every airport and is the only airport consistently operating flights to Santa Cruz das Flores. Gatwick and Heathrow are the only airports that regularly run flights to Pico Island, Santa Cruz da Graciosa, Velas and Horta. Lajes and Ponta Delgada have regular flights from all London airports.

  • Which airport in the Azores is best for public transport?

If you aren't planning on hiring a car when you visit the Azores, you might be concerned about getting from the airport to your accommodation. Ponta Delgada is the most straightforward and convenient option for transport to the city centre. They operate the ANC Aerobus, which takes passengers between the airport and the city centre. However, many hotels in the Azores offer private transfers and shuttle buses.

  • Which airline offers the best opportunities to relax during the journey?

Many flights to the Azores, particularly the smaller islands, are run by Azores Airlines and their domestic equivalent SATA Azores Airlines. This airline is a great option for travellers with long layovers, as they are partnered with the All Nippon Airways airport lounges in both main stopover airports. Business Class travellers can access the lounge for free and Economy travellers can book a stay for an extra cost. TAP Air also has a lounge at Lisbon Airport.

  • How does KAYAK find such low prices on flights from London to Azores?

KAYAK is a travel search engine. That means we look across the web to find the best prices we can find for our users. With over 2 billion flight queries processed yearly, we are able to display a variety of prices and options on flights from London to Azores.

  • How does KAYAK's flight Price Forecast tool help me choose the right time to buy my flight ticket from London to Azores?

KAYAK’s flight Price Forecast tool uses historical data to determine whether the price for a flight from London to Azores is likely to change within 7 days, so travellers know whether to wait or book now.

  • What is the Hacker Fare option on flights from London to Azores?

Hacker Fares allow you to combine one-way tickets in order to save you money over a traditional return ticket. You could then fly from London to Azores with an airline and back with another airline.

  • What is KAYAK's "flexible dates" feature and why should I care when looking for a flight from London to Azores?

Sometimes travel dates aren't set in stone. If your preferred travel dates have some wiggle room, flexible dates will show you all the options when flying from London to Azores up to 3 days before/after your preferred dates. You can then pick the flights that suit you best.

  • What is the cheapest time of day to fly to Azores?

The cheapest time of day to fly to Azores is generally at night, when retur flights cost £237 on average. Morning departures are around 28% more expensive than evening flights, on average. Top tips for finding a cheap flight from London to Azores

  • The Azores Archipelago is made up of nine islands and you can fly into all of them from London, even the smallest island Corvo. Once on the archipelago, there are ferries between islands, so it may sometimes be cheaper or easier to fly to one island and take a ferry to your final destination.
  • Ponta Delgada is the capital of the Azores and the main hub on São Miguel Island, so many travellers choose to use Ponta Delgada Airport (PDL). Flights to some other islands, such as Horta, may include a stopover at this airport.
  • All five of London's major airports, Heathrow (LHR), Luton (LTN), Stansted (STN), Gatwick (LGW), and London City (LCY), operate flights from London to the Azores. They all operate flights to Ponta Delgada, but if you choose to fly to another island you may have fewer options.
  • Travellers with young children may prefer to choose Heathrow over London's other airports. It has a reputation as one of the most family-friendly airports in the world. There are play areas throughout the terminal, as well as additional liquid allowances for baby food and breast milk.
  • Although there are sometimes flights to Corvo, they aren't always running so you may need to arrive at a different island. The closest island is Santa Cruz das Flores, but Horta and Santa Cruz da Graciosa have more frequent flights.

No food was served on the flight. Boarding desk open two hours before departure. But they recommande to be there three hours before departure !! So we where a group waiting 1 hour in Line for nothing …

My flight from Toronto to PDL was one of the worst experiences of my travel history. I paid for an upgrade and did not receive it, and was also charged an exorbitant amount for a 25-inch bag, and when I tried to explain the situation, I was only told the flight was already over capacity. & I had to accept what I could get!, I am a frequent traveler and will not be flying your airline again!. The only thing positive in this entire trip wete the flight attendants, but other than that, everything else was very disappointing!

They charged us 100 Euro per bag on the return leg with no explanation.

Everything was perfect, clean and very nice staff. But the seat was uncomfortable compared to other companies and the food wasnt good

Flight wasn’t full so got to stretch out and sleep.

Boarding was delayed. Then when we queued, it took us to another long line to stand in. Flight had 0 entertainment. Not even a magazine. But they had a free meal and it was good!

You cannot add an additional luggage via the check in. It seems to be an issue with Azore Airline.

The facilities at PDL are absolutely appalling during a 4.5-hour connection. Passengers from multiple flights were crammed into a small area with insufficient seating and only a snack bar. The only bathroom was unisex, with one stall for men and another for women side by side. This is for hundreds of passengers. The connecting aircraft from PDL to JFK was downgraded/switched out to an Economy Class-only configuration without explanation, even though the aircraft with Comfort Class we arrived from FNC on remained at the stand. Those who paid for Comfort Class could not enjoy the better seating or catering. Food and drink aboard was sub-par. I would qualify it as one of our worst travel experiences in years.

The crew was great. The only problem is that electrical outlets were not working in what seems to be a half of the rows on the plane. Considering that passengers are asked not to use power banks, this leaves us out in the blue without any entertainment option.

Reasonably comfortable. We were about an half an hour late. But no personal impact. Seats upfront have a good amount of recline, but do not lay down flat. Food and drink can be improved. There are no soft drinks available on the flights. Water, juices, and wines are provisioned.

I like the price. I dislike the website where I wanted to ask questions about the unusual high prices of the luggage fees. I called the toll free number from the United States and I cannot get through. You should test your own toll free website for info and you will know what I am writing about.

Wonderful just hope the had more direct flights to Boston

Boarding process was fast and efficient. Short flight but on time and well organized. I would certainly fly TAP again.

Very borderline, low budget airline without low budget prices There are no counts of soda, everything is dispensed enlarged bottles and poured into tiny cups about 70 mL so in order to keep hydrated you have to take 3-4 cups at a time. Also, there was only one food item offered, pasta, they ran out of chicken right away. Snack was very poor. It was called tuna sandwich, which is truly borderline. The flight attend attendance seemed to be overworked and tired.

TAP‘s flight attendants seem to be among the least ambitious of all the international flight crews we’ve flown with. . When we left US and went to Portugal, and when we returned from Portugal, flight attendants were not very visible. Then did not offer frequent water breaks and when we had to go back to request water, I was almost an imposition. Meal quality was just average. The dinners were fine. Breakfast wraps were presented soggy.

Did not enjoy the meal provided. The aircraft was dirty. For instance, the screen seemed to have been cleaned with a dirty rag. Disgusting.

The business class seats were smaller and closer together than other airlines.

Boarding- Good Seat Comfort - OK Crew - Good Food - Mediocre On Time - Very Good

Didn't like much. Wheelchair assistance was almost nonexistent. No one at TAP check in process helpful. On the plane, stewards were not friendly and disorganized. Food was terrible for 8 hr flight. We were skipped at snack time and even though we tried to get attention using overhead call system no one even looked up at us to acknowledge. Being at the back of first section and by the lavatory we only were able to request when they came to pick up everyone else's garbage and they were nonchalant...no apology or even choice. The 1/2 half bread with slice of cheese was a waste. Deplaning was horrible but I'll blame lisbon airport for that. Plane left late at made good time still arrived about 15 behind schedule and for using remote deplaning and bus to terminal took another 20 min to gate. Those with connections were highly stressed. Took us 2 hrs from landing to get to ground transportation and exit airport. And that was with wheelchair assistance.

Bad boarding, threat to force bag check mid journey, lines, late, buses, more waiting awful end to end.

Take off was great but landing is always with a bump.

Flight was delayed by 1 hour 45 minutes. Aircraft was cramped, dirty and uncomfortable. Boarding staff more interested in charging you for oversize baggage than getting you on board. Overall not a pleasant experience.

I didn't know that all connecting flights require online check-in two hours in advance, so I was fined 55 euros. This is a lesson learned.

A delay of almost 3 hours. It was evident that the staff wanted us to board urgently, to the point of rudeness, to avoid paying compensation

There isn’t any entertainment. The food and drink was available for a price. I didn’t buy any.

It would be nice to have power to charge phone.

They boarded us but somehow did not manage to record us boarding, so rather than check if we were onboard they removed our bags from the aircraft. I got a call from Ryanair staff in Dublin when I landed in Madiera asking me where I was!!! When I said I was in Madiera I was told what had happened. Our bags were to be sent to Madiera the next day via Manchester, they didn’t arrive. They are now due to arrive two days before we leave. I don’t see myself using Ryanair again unless I am forced to and even then I may just refuse.

It's not the staff's fault. The cabin crew do their best but the setup in Stansted Airport by Ryanair is poor. The herding of people like cattle is unacceptable before boarding and is something that's in every airport but only in Stansted have I seen the queueing of passengers outside the plane on the tarmac and the crew only turning up with maybe 5 minutes to depart. This is a resource issue . Yes prices are good but seemingly comes with a price of poor treatment of customers. I'll pay more next time

On time arrival but the aircraft had seen better days and needed a deep clean.

It was appalling, full of young people who were drunk and disobeying instructions to sit down. Crew did nothing to enforce. There was a Ryanair pilot sitting in the aisle opposite me who talked through out the safety briefing so loudly I couldn’t hear. Whole thing felt unsafe

Nice lounge but had a 5 hour layover which is a lot

Flight on time and priority boarding worked. I travelled economy although business was available as no flights are cheap these days and at least with BA loyalty card I get a baggage allowance for nothing. That made the flight comparable or even cheaper than the ‘budget’ alternative. As for catering and entertainment - not on a BA short haul economy ! At least we were offered biscuits and water! Catering for economy short haul has been reduced to the minimum - no tea or coffee or other drinks than water (from a large bottle with a paper cup on offer). They will say this is better for the environment, which it is, but proper waste management is still needed for empty packets etc. so actually it’s a money saver.

Audi visual not working for a whole group of seats in first class. How does a plane leave the main hub in such poor condition? How much that we can’t see so immediately is also compromised?

main meals are horrible but then you dont fly for the food

It was good. Couldn’t Check in online and select seats

It was great. Enough space and room for legs . Great service to.

⭐ British Airways Review — A Journey of Highs, Lows, and Lessons ⭐ I recently flew Business Class round-trip from Boston to Mumbai with British Airways, and my experience was a tale of two extremes — from disappointment to exceptional service, and then back to inconsistency. Boston → London: A Surprisingly Poor Start My journey began on a disappointing note. On a 6-hour Business Class flight, I was surprised to discover that there wasn’t a single proper vegetarian meal option available. I was offered a few bakery items only after repeatedly requesting something to eat. The flight attendant shrugged, offered no solution, and eventually — quite literally — threw some bread at me after much delay. This was not only disheartening, it was extremely surprising given my wonderful Business Class experience with BA last year. I stepped off that flight genuinely hungry and had to make a mad dash to the lounge just to get a proper meal. London → Mumbai: A Complete Turnaround The next sector restored my faith in British Airways. The entire crew was warm, welcoming, attentive, and genuinely caring. A special shoutout to Phiroze and the entire team serving the Business Class cabin — their professionalism, hospitality, and thoughtful service were extraordinary. They truly embodied what makes British Airways a global leader, and I am deeply grateful for the experience they provided. This is the BA I know and love. Mumbai → London: A Strange Meal Schedule This sector was generally fine, but the meal timing was puzzling. Lunch at 10:30 AM — for a Business cabin — felt unusual, and most passengers, including myself, barely touched it. The rest of the service was smooth, but the scheduling definitely needs a rethink. London → Boston: Mixed Experience Again The flight itself was decent, but the Business Lounge at Heathrow for this leg was a letdown. Arrived during lunch hours: no hot vegetarian options available Lounge area: dirty dishes everywhere Even after politely alerting the staff, the dishes were ignored and left uncleared For a premium cabin passenger — and at one of the world’s busiest international hubs — this was disappointing. Overall Impression My journey with British Airways felt inconsistent — two great sectors sandwiched between two that fell short of the BA standard. When BA is good, it is world-class. When it misses, the gap is noticeable. I genuinely hope the airline takes this feedback as constructive insight. I continue to believe in British Airways, and I commend the outstanding crew on the London → Mumbai sector — they were the highlight of my entire trip. With a little more focus on vegetarian meal availability, lounge service, and consistency across crews, BA can ensure every Business Class passenger experiences the premium journey they promise.

We were in business class and I had seat # 1. This was a night flight and after dinner was served, lights were dimmed and I went to sleep. The crew were loud and noisy so I didn’t get much sleep. I expect the crew to enjoy themselves but would Appreciate some decency in staying quiet while the passengers sleep

Have travelled business class with other airlines who profess to be the best in the world. They can however not beat the service and comfort that BA provide.

Great on board entertainment Tasty food Cattle class obviously crammed but not as bad as shorter hall flights
