FAQs - booking Azores flights

  • I’m travelling to Pico Island from Northern Ireland. Which airports should I choose?

To travel to Pico from Northern Ireland, you have to take at least two stopovers into account, one in England and one on São Miguel island in the Azores. If you prefer to travel with the least number of airlines possible, Ryanair operates direct flights to Manchester and London Stansted from all three main airports in Northern Ireland: Belfast International Airport (BFS), George Best Belfast City Airport (BHD), and City of Derry Airport (LDY). The same airline then flies from Manchester and Stansted direct to São Miguel, from where you’ll need to catch a connecting flight to Pico Island on SATA Air Açores. If you’d rather not book a flight to the Azores on a low-cost carrier, there are seasonal flights to São Miguel operated by Azores Airlines from Gatwick Airport (GTW) in London. Do keep in mind only Belfast International has flights to Gatwick, operated by low-cost airline easyJet.

  • I’m booking a flight to Azores to visit Corvo. Which airports do I choose?

Most passengers travelling to Corvo from the UK need to factor in at least one or two stopovers, depending on where they’re travelling from. If you’re not travelling from England or Scotland, you’ll need to count on a first stopover in London Heathrow (LHR), London Gatwick, London Luton (LTN), London City (LCY), Manchester, or Edinburgh Airport (EDI). Those airports have regular direct flights to Lisbon Airport (LIS), from where you’ll catch your flight to the Azores. From Lisbon, you can travel to either Ponta Delgada or Horta Airport for your final stopover. Both these islands’ airports have regular flights to Corvo, operated by SATA Air Açores.

  • Can I book a direct flight from London to Terceira Island?

There are no direct flights to Terceira Island from London, so you’ll have to factor in at least one stopover in Ponta Delgada Airport on São Miguel island or at Lisbon Airport. If you prefer to fly the whole route with only one airline, Azores Airlines operates seasonal flights to São Miguel from London Gatwick. From São Miguel, you’ll need to take a flight with SATA Air Açores, which is the regional branch of Azores Airlines.

  • I’m travelling to Santa Maria Island from London. Which airports do I choose?

Santa Maria Airport (SMA) is served by direct flights from Ponta Delgada, operated by SATA Air Açores. You can travel to Ponta Delgada directly from London Gatwick or London Stansted. If you want to travel with the same carrier, choose the first option. Flights are seasonal and operated by Azores Airlines. If you are flexible with your travel dates, choose the second option, with regular flights all year round operated by Ryanair.

  • How does KAYAK find such low prices on flights from the United Kingdom to Azores?

KAYAK is a travel search engine. That means we look across the web to find the best prices we can find for our users. With over 2 billion flight queries processed yearly, we are able to display a variety of prices and options on flights from the United Kingdom to Azores.

  • How does KAYAK's flight Price Forecast tool help me choose the right time to buy my flight ticket from the United Kingdom to Azores?

KAYAK’s flight Price Forecast tool uses historical data to determine whether the price for a flight from the United Kingdom to Azores is likely to change within 7 days, so travellers know whether to wait or book now.

  • What is the Hacker Fare option on flights from the United Kingdom to Azores?

Hacker Fares allow you to combine one-way tickets in order to save you money over a traditional return ticket. You could then fly from the United Kingdom to Azores with an airline and back with another airline.

  • What is KAYAK's "flexible dates" feature and why should I care when looking for a flight from the United Kingdom to Azores?

Sometimes travel dates aren't set in stone. If your preferred travel dates have some wiggle room, flexible dates will show you all the options when flying from the United Kingdom to Azores up to 3 days before/after your preferred dates. You can then pick the flights that suit you best.

  • What is the cheapest day to fly to Azores?

Based on KAYAK data, the cheapest day to fly to Azores is Tuesday when return tickets can be as cheap as £134. On the other hand, the most expensive day to fly is Monday, when return prices are £389 on average.

In a 6 hr flight after paying over $700 dllrs of ticket and we still needed to pay for our own food and given ONLY a small glass of water!!! Will not be flying internationally anytime soon with them They are good for very short flights

No food was served on the flight. Boarding desk open two hours before departure. But they recommande to be there three hours before departure !! So we where a group waiting 1 hour in Line for nothing …

My flight from Toronto to PDL was one of the worst experiences of my travel history. I paid for an upgrade and did not receive it, and was also charged an exorbitant amount for a 25-inch bag, and when I tried to explain the situation, I was only told the flight was already over capacity. & I had to accept what I could get!, I am a frequent traveler and will not be flying your airline again!. The only thing positive in this entire trip wete the flight attendants, but other than that, everything else was very disappointing!

They charged us 100 Euro per bag on the return leg with no explanation.

Everything was perfect, clean and very nice staff. But the seat was uncomfortable compared to other companies and the food wasnt good

Flight wasn’t full so got to stretch out and sleep.

Boarding was delayed. Then when we queued, it took us to another long line to stand in. Flight had 0 entertainment. Not even a magazine. But they had a free meal and it was good!

You cannot add an additional luggage via the check in. It seems to be an issue with Azore Airline.

The facilities at PDL are absolutely appalling during a 4.5-hour connection. Passengers from multiple flights were crammed into a small area with insufficient seating and only a snack bar. The only bathroom was unisex, with one stall for men and another for women side by side. This is for hundreds of passengers. The connecting aircraft from PDL to JFK was downgraded/switched out to an Economy Class-only configuration without explanation, even though the aircraft with Comfort Class we arrived from FNC on remained at the stand. Those who paid for Comfort Class could not enjoy the better seating or catering. Food and drink aboard was sub-par. I would qualify it as one of our worst travel experiences in years.

The crew was great. The only problem is that electrical outlets were not working in what seems to be a half of the rows on the plane. Considering that passengers are asked not to use power banks, this leaves us out in the blue without any entertainment option.

They left our luggage uncovered on tarmac in pouring rain during an hour delay of departure! At our final destination, we found ALL OF OUR CLOTHES/SHOES soaked all the way through!! Our 1st connection plane was a great business class accommodation but only 50 minutes long. Our 2nd connection from Lisbon (another delay with luggage uncovered on tarmac) had only the extra legroom and mediocre food in business class - no entertainment and no extra comfort seating. Will not use TAP Air Portugal again!

The food left a lot to be desired. The crew was great

Horrible experience at tbe check in ladie she was very racist ,she doesn't speak portuguese too and forced me to check in my carrion bag and I saw everyone with carrion bag inside anda lot of space ,she was rude unprofessional

Departed late. Flight crew some of the most professional I have ever experienced. First time we’ve flown this airline

No difference between business class and normal same seat everything same, waste of money

They allowed me to book the flight, which took quite an effort to find the best option for us, and then 2 months later, cancelled it because they didn't think 90 minutes was enough time to get between connections. Why let me book the flight in the first place? I am somewhat disappointed in Kayak and will be choosing other options in the future

Absolutely unacceptable level of service for a Business class: lousy drink and food options, disgusting food (inedible meat, watery rice, etc...), pathetic level of attentiveness from staff, Business class restrooms were not accessible for long periods because blocked of by staff...overall extremely disappointing, will NEVER fly Business on TAP again.

Should really consider a better, smother boarding. Stood in tunnel for 20 plus minutes. Should start from back passengers of plane. Not front.

The plane was small and one felt the turbulence much more. The lines to get through immigration were insanely long.

First time flying Business with Tap, I think it was a very good experience. It beats many domestic US carriers, the food options were really great, authentic Portuguese food, wines & deserts. Next time will do the free 24-48 hour stopover in Lisbon or Porto for sure.

I didn't eat any food so can't comment on that. The prices on the plane are extortionate (as are all prices on planes). Everything else was seemless and a great experience

I need assistance and I could not fault it at all. I suffer anxiety and I was always put at ease by assistance staff, and the banter was good. On board the staff was so very nice and kind and showed empathy. Thank you to them. It was my first time travelling since I lost my husband and was so grateful to them.

Great flight just took some time to board even when lining up early for the flight, even taking off took longer then expected.

Take off was great but landing is always with a bump.

Flight was delayed by 1 hour 45 minutes. Aircraft was cramped, dirty and uncomfortable. Boarding staff more interested in charging you for oversize baggage than getting you on board. Overall not a pleasant experience.

I didn't know that all connecting flights require online check-in two hours in advance, so I was fined 55 euros. This is a lesson learned.

A delay of almost 3 hours. It was evident that the staff wanted us to board urgently, to the point of rudeness, to avoid paying compensation

There isn’t any entertainment. The food and drink was available for a price. I didn’t buy any.

It would be nice to have power to charge phone.

They boarded us but somehow did not manage to record us boarding, so rather than check if we were onboard they removed our bags from the aircraft. I got a call from Ryanair staff in Dublin when I landed in Madiera asking me where I was!!! When I said I was in Madiera I was told what had happened. Our bags were to be sent to Madiera the next day via Manchester, they didn’t arrive. They are now due to arrive two days before we leave. I don’t see myself using Ryanair again unless I am forced to and even then I may just refuse.

It was not British Air, we were put onto Air Portugal for our London to Lisbon leg.

Everything was spectacular except the boarding. It was just a mob of people while all groups were called over the public address system.

BA code for a Vueling flight. All god but the temperature in the plane (too hot when engine not running but otherwise ok)

The Britts are wonderful to fly with and the crew were very hospitable. Again, I really wish they had been able to retrieve my carryon bag from baggage claim before the flight so I could be in a less worrisome state of mind, but that's not on them. I completely understand. The window seats with the dimmable windows were very cool!

There was a delay for the San Francisco-London flight, but we were all informed via text and email. The staff was very friendly and nice and the food was good. I do recommend that the airline offer something without eggs or something vegan for the vegetarian meal option. A lot of Indians are lacto-vegetarian, while some could be allergic to eggs/dairy.

food options were terrible. for a 10-hour flight, there should be 2 decent meals. Also, flight attendants should come around with drinks more than just at the meals.

Smooth flight. The seats were comfortable but the reclining mechanism didn't work very well. My wife's seat required the flight attendant to push the seat forward while she pushed the button. The leg support didn't want to return to its home under the seat. I ordered the diabetic meal which was full of carbs. It was low in sugar but carbs turn into sugar so was it really diabetic? Overall the flight was pleasant, long but pleasant.

Crew were nice, food was good. Boarding was horrendous. We were driven around the airport in a bus forced to climb a long flight of very steep stairs with no adequate handrails to board the plane . In many many years of flying to the US I have never been required to do this . There was no assistance for those needing help getting up the stairs to the plane. A fellow passenger helped me. No idea how other elderly, physically limited passengers or those with young children managed . It was a full flight with crowds trying to get up the stairs. It was an accident waiting to happen.

Food options limited and quality wasn’t very good. I was I was in premium economy and the people in front of me pushed their seats back to fully reclined position which made it difficult for me. My seat wouldn’t recline at all. I suggest that BA restrict the recliner more. Also, the audio in my headset didn’t work unless I held it in all the time. Entertainment choices were good. Customer services is excellent. Thank you to BA team.

Horrible, the plane is just old and junky...Filthy restroom, seat was as hard as rock. The food, mystery side dish, inedible..geez..just Horrible. Never flying BA again
