FAQs - booking Hawaii flights

  • Which airport on the Big Island should I choose for my flight to Hawaii?

It depends on the reason you’re visiting the Big Island. If you’re booking a flight to Hawaii for the beach resorts, Kona Airport on the west side of the island is the closest. However, if you’re looking for volcanoes and the more offbeat side of the island, Hilo Airport is your best option.

  • I’m looking for flights to Hawaii from Wales. Which airports do I choose?

Passengers travelling from Wales can only travel from Cardiff Airport (CWL) and have to reckon with a flight to Hawaii with two or three stopovers. One of the simplest ways is to book a flight with low-cost airline Flybe to Edinburgh and from there take a Delta flight to Honolulu via New York.

  • Which airports in the north of England can I choose for a flight to Hawaii?

If you want the fewest stopovers possible, Thomas Cook Airlines and Virgin Atlantic operate seasonal flights from Manchester to Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York (JFK), from where you can catch a flight to Hawaii. If you don’t mind the number of stopovers and prefer to have more options when it comes to airlines, you’ll have to fly out of London Heathrow. British Airways operates regular flights to this airport from Manchester, Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA), and Newcastle International Airport (NCL).

  • What’s the most convenient airport in Scotland to fly to Hawaii from?

Edinburgh is the airport in Scotland with the most options when it comes to airlines and routes. If you prefer the least number of stopovers possible, you can book a flight to Hawaii via New York (JFK) from this airport, operated by Delta. If you want more choices of airlines and don’t mind the number of stopovers in your route, you can fly out of Edinburgh, Glasgow Airport (GLA), Inverness Airport (INV), or Aberdeen International Airport (ABZ) to London Heathrow, and from there connect to Hawaii via Los Angeles or San Francisco.

  • How does KAYAK find such low prices on flights from the United Kingdom to Hawaii?

KAYAK is a travel search engine. That means we look across the web to find the best prices we can find for our users. With over 2 billion flight queries processed yearly, we are able to display a variety of prices and options on flights from the United Kingdom to Hawaii.

  • How does KAYAK's flight Price Forecast tool help me choose the right time to buy my flight ticket from the United Kingdom to Hawaii?

KAYAK’s flight Price Forecast tool uses historical data to determine whether the price for a flight from the United Kingdom to Hawaii is likely to change within 7 days, so travellers know whether to wait or book now.

  • What is the Hacker Fare option on flights from the United Kingdom to Hawaii?

Hacker Fares allow you to combine one-way tickets in order to save you money over a traditional return ticket. You could then fly from the United Kingdom to Hawaii with an airline and back with another airline.

  • What is KAYAK's "flexible dates" feature and why should I care when looking for a flight from the United Kingdom to Hawaii?

Sometimes travel dates aren't set in stone. If your preferred travel dates have some wiggle room, flexible dates will show you all the options when flying from the United Kingdom to Hawaii up to 3 days before/after your preferred dates. You can then pick the flights that suit you best.

Top tips for finding cheap flights to Hawaii

  • Enter your preferred departure airport and travel dates into the search form above to unlock the latest Hawaii flight deals.
  • When looking for flights to Hawaii from the United Kingdom, keep in mind that you’ll have to take at least one stopover in the United States into account if you plan on flying directly from London, and at least two stopovers if you’re flying from elsewhere in the UK.
  • The Big Island of Hawaii is served by two international airports: Kona International Airport (KOA) and Hilo International Airport (ITO). If you’re looking for an airport with more options when it comes to onward flights, Kona is the best connected. When booking your flight to Hawaii for this island, you can choose to have a stopover in Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Jose, San Diego, or Honolulu.
  • If you’d rather have more choices of where to have a stopover in the United States, select Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL) when searching for flights to Hawaii. It’s served by direct flights from various major cities in the US, all of which can be reached from the UK. These connecting flights are mostly operated by Hawaiian Airlines, which the airport is a hub for.
  • If you want to have more flexibility when looking for flights to Hawaii and aren’t sure which island you’re visiting, Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) has connecting flights to all five main airports in Hawaii.
  • The islands of Kaua’i and Maui are served by Lihue Airport (LIH) and Kahului Airport (OGG), respectively. In addition to Los Angeles and San Francisco, you can also fly directly to these two islands from San Jose International Airport (SJC) and San Diego International Airport (SAN). Keep in mind that flights to these two airports from the UK are only operated by British Airways from Heathrow.

Lounge was top notch h with great variety of food and drinks. Cabin crew were great. Smooth flight.

My seat 3G did not go down fully and the buttons were not working properly

Food was the worst I’ve had on a VA flight. Normally it’s a lot better

The staff was not very polite but the flight was very very nice and comfortable and the entertainment was great

Unfortunately delayed 2 hrs due to faulty tyre.. which had to be changed, but better safe than sorry.

Security area in terminal 3 needs to be made much nicer. Less claustrophobic and use of glass and big ceilings wouldhelp

accomodating check in staff, friendly flight crew ( a crew member was speaking tactlessly and was overfamiliar with passengers

Seats need to be updated. Allowance needs to be made for dinner service at an alternative time

The crew should demonstrate flexibility by moving a screaming infant to its own seat with 1 parent

If I could fly Virgin Atlantic airlines to every place, I need to go, I would. Leaving Heathrow through the special virgin air entrance, security is completely white glove service. I love this airline. From ticketing agents to flight staff everyone tries to make it a wonderful & happy flight experience. I wish other airlines copied the positive culture of Virgin Airlines.

Great staff. Clean plane, but we were delayed for more than an hour due to maintenance issues and had to board another plane.

Overall a good experience, but no wifi available for free or for purchase and we got wet from condensation or other water source during descent.

It was a more comfortable seat don't get stuck in middle, makes for uncomfortable situation

So bad, flight was been cancelled due to aircraft problem, so ended up buying anothet ticket.

I’m so sorry, I can’t remember her name, I believe it was Dimpti. She was stellar, also a mature Asian flight attendant, lots of flowers in her hair, just as amazing! But literally the crew was AWESOME . Only downside is there weren’t any charging outlets. Maybe I needed to ask a flight attendant , but it would’ve been nice to have one easily accessible.

Older aircraft, no meal, only food was for purchase. Not impressed United.

Stuck on tarmac for two hours plus a 5.5 hour flight. Rude flight attendant. And no meals, not even for purchase!

I learned that seating towards the end of plane that a line forms for the restroom and people use your chair as a hand railing, bumping your seat consistently. I was seated in the aisle. I think that next time if I am towards the back row I would want to sit in the middle or window seat.

Boarding seemed to be organized bedlam. For what ever reason, preboarding took longer than 20 minutes. Made the plane 20 minutes late taking off. Luckily we arrived on time. Flight crew seemed very friendly. Only slight turbulence.

The personnel were professional and friendly. The Boeing 737 Max 9 is too claustrophobic and was very warm at both airport gates, and still warm in the air.

Our itinerary included a 1 hour and 30 minute layover, which should have been sufficient under normal circumstances. However, our original flight was delayed. Before we even deplaned, we were instructed to collect our checked bags from baggage claim, clear immigration and customs, and then recheck our bags for the connecting flight. The airline knew—or should have known—that this was impossible. Checked baggage acceptance closes one hour before departure, meaning there was no realistic way for passengers from the delayed flight to recheck their bags in time. Despite this, the airline gave us misleading instructions instead of informing us that we would likely miss our connection. We completed immigration and customs in approximately 10 minutes, but our checked bags did not arrive at the carousel for more than 30 minutes. After collecting them, we had another 10-minute walk to the baggage drop area, only to find that no airline attendant was present. We then went to another airline counter, where an employee told us this had happened before and that there was nothing they could do because the baggage acceptance window had already closed. At that point, there were still 40 minutes remaining before our flight's departure, yet no one was willing to assist or offer a practical solution. When we asked to be rebooked, we were simply told to call the airline's 800 number ourselves. There was no accountability or customer support at the airport, leaving us stranded in a foreign country with no immediate assistance. After finally reaching an agent on the 800 number, we were rebooked on a flight for the following day. However, we were initially told that the airline would not provide any hotel accommodation and that we would have to arrange and pay for it ourselves. Only after making multiple calls and speaking with several different agents did one representative finally issue a hotel voucher. The entire experience was an exhausting and frustrating ordeal. What should have been a 20-hour journey ultimately became more than 30 hours due to the airline's poor planning, misleading instructions, lack of accountability, and inadequate customer service. The unnecessary delays, confusion, and absence of meaningful assistance caused significant physical exhaustion and severe mental stress. This experience fell far below the level of service passengers should reasonably expect.

Despite travelling ultra basic for the first time due to such increased rates we both managed with one bag each. Even boarding last wasn’t SO bad.

I loved the fact it was on time and it was a smooth flight to my destination.

Service was okay except attendant over served alcohol to passenger and passenger got tipsy and made me uncomfortable

Agent checking me in was great. Plane was nice. Problem was with the handling of my fragile check in. They damaged my steel drum, waiting to hear back from them to see if they will take any responsibility. Think twice about travelling with something fragile, they don't seem to treat it any different than normal luggage

Don’t actually know how this flight would have been since we missed it.

I had planned to watch the Westjet entertainment for the entire flight however, because the seat mounted outlets in our row did not work.

Not a bad flight but our priority tagged luggage was the very last to come down the carousel.

Our recent flight from edmontown to kahalui was excellent. The service staff was very friendly, knowledgeable, funny and attentive. Thanks to all involved that made or travel such a pleasant experience and we hope to fly with west jet again soon

The seats are too small. There are no screens for in flight movies which means you have to go to their app. Which is hard to get on. The usb ports are hard to get at. The flight crew particularly the female flight attendant was cranky. All in all I’m trying air Canada next time.

Flight map did not work. Crew was great, food was good, plane took off on time and landed early. That's all I can ask.

Cheapest airlines I have ever been on. I got downgraded and never got on united. I got rerouted through Vancouver onto jetwesf

Plane was delayed about an hour but nice crew and service

Other than problems with checking in and uploading passport info everything was great. It would be nice to be able to manually input passport info. Often while traveling the bandwidth has problems uploading pictures

Poor, we had 1 hour to grab our checked luggage, go through customs, recheck bags and run across terminals to make our United flight. Poorly planned connections.

Efficient boarding. Good flight but seats were quite uncomfortable considering we'd already been sitting on two flights, total 13 hours or so. Would have liked to have prices on the menu of amenities on the plane. We could have used more water. Restrooms and nonalcoholic beverages at no extra cost, not much else. I realize these were discount tickets, and the airline has to break even, so I can't say we were expecting amenities to be plentiful. Still, it's nice with long flights to discover a few. Very pleasant crew though.

Staff didn’t care in business class. Closed the door on my mom while she was on the jetbridge and flight attendant told me she would make it from the connecting flight. They lied. My luggage was damaged on arrival. No success in filing damage claim.

Boarding was a zoo. London ground crew was useless. Poor communication regarding where to line up. We were group 2, and everyone was jammed in together. Ground crew didn’t seem to care.

Horrible flight attendant in back of economy that screamed at me, have already reported to United. Horrible food - for Gluten free, why would you assume the person is vegetarian? I was served some kind of horrible curry bean paste and multiple cold rolls and soggy vegetables with no seasoning... um no!

Did not get to take it. Earlier flight was cancelled

Crew members were thorough in checking seatbelts and whatnot which makes me feel cared for because passenger safety is a main concern.

I was sent an email that said my card payment was not verified. When I spoke to an agent , he said my card was not verified and the flight I thought I had to booked was no longer available so I booked another flight on another airline(United). Later I got flight updates , etc., concerning my supposed first flight. So if I was charged for this flight on British Airways/American airlines, I need a refund.

The crew made it a great flight. They were friendly and attentive. They made me want to fly British Airways again.

BA has not been handling priority luggage with any special priority. This time our luggage was distinctly very slow to arrive, well after the first half of items to arrive. Business class flights cost a lot and it would be nice to have that reflected in the speed of baggage handling! (I note that this has worsened in our long experience of BA.) On a different note, we spent 2.5 hours on the plane after landing because of an airport mishap at Boston Logan. The pilot provided reasonably frequent update but more could have been done to ensure passenger comfort, such as more beverage and maybe snack services.

Food is horrible. Flight was good and the staff were mostly men.

Delayed suitcase - terrible service to get my suitcase next day, I was informed it would arrive today in the afternoon (Jun/28). Now, I was informed I may or may not receive it until 3 am (Jun/29).

Seats were comfortable, but boarding was the worst I've ever seen. Way too much walking to get onboard as we had to go up & down steps several & then bus took us halfway around the airport for boarding & had to board outside after a very long bus rood.

I will never want to book with these people. They are arrogant and rude. Food was really really bad, crew was even worst

Generally very good. I think their service is better than some other big names I used to travel with. Their food variety is second to none - and you can place order beforehand. Their seating design is a bit awkward for service, I'd say. Flight attendants must be tall enough - long legs and arms - to reach the window seat passenger while crossing over the isle passenger. Also appreciated the variety on entertainment.

There was a slight delay. Otherwise, everything else was satisfactory.
