FAQs - booking Wales flights

  • I’m flexible with my departure city. Which English airport offers the most direct flights to Wales?

If you are looking for a direct flight to Wales from England, Newcastle International Airport (NCL) is the best option. If you’d prefer an airport with more flight options and good public transportation links, select flights to Wales from London Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted or Luton, or from Manchester Airport (MAN) or Birmingham Airport (BHX). Keep in mind that flying out of these airports requires at least one stopover.

  • I’m booking a flight to Wales from London. Which airport should I depart from?

Regardless of which London airport you’re flying out of, a flight to Wales will usually involve a stopover in Edinburgh or Glasgow. Occasionally, some flights to Wales might also have a stopover in Belfast City Airport. If you prefer less busy airports when flying, you might like to choose a flight that departs from London City (LCY) or London Southend Airport (SEN) and has a stopover in Glasgow.

  • I’m travelling to Swansea. Which airport should I choose?

Although Swansea does have an airport, it’s not served by commercial flights. The closest airport in Wales to be served by commercial flights is Cardiff Airport (40 mi). Alternatively, if you're looking for a nearby airport with more options when it comes to airlines and flights, you can search for flights that land in the English city of Bristol, and drive (2h 10min) or take public transportation (2h 30min) from the airport to Swansea.

  • Which airport in Scotland is the best to book a direct flight to Wales from?

If you value direct flights, you can choose between Edinburgh Airport and Glasgow International Airport. Of the two, Glasgow is the least busy airport, but Edinburgh is the most centrally located. Aberdeen Airport (ABZ) can be considered as a third alternative, but it’s not served by direct flights to Wales, which means you’d have to factor in a stopover in one of the other Scottish airports or elsewhere in the United Kingdom.

Everything! Not sure if there's really anything that could make it any better

Very quick trip from Southampton to Edinburgh Arrival a long way from baggage and up 3flights of stairs no lifts or escalators

Our first flight was delayed so we missed our connecting flight. However it was easy to book a later flight on their app.

My flight was delayed by 6 hours then I missed BOTH of my connecting flights, I then had to stay in the AIRPORT at JFK because soooooo many people also suffered from missing flights and there was no hotels available. I would like to be compensated for this experience! I had to stay in the airport for over 16 hours!

Klm start boarding while somw air issue in the plan

The service was great. However the lounge only gets passing grade

I appreciate that KLM was proactive in informing me of the 2 hour delay which enabled me to replan my travel. It was a bit stressful not knowing whether my connection from Montreal to Ottawa was happening. But the ground and air crew did a good job at comforting and assuring me.

Cabin crew professional, polite and friendly, boarding was seemless, but come on KLM surely you can do better than a pack of cheesy biscuits as an inflight snack

Cabin crew were excellent, very proffesional, polite and friendly, in flight snack was underwhelming, a packet of cheese biscuits, im sure KLM could run to a sandwich!

Legroom not all it could be, especially when the seat in front is reclined. Otherwise it was good, food and beverage were nice.

This fight left ahead of time which meant it arrived early which was great. Staff were very professional, but as with all these Short hop Flights the food was a disappointing snack There was no entertainment on this flight, but I did not expect any

They only had vegetarian food left on the flight which I wasn’t happy about. I didn’t get any food to eat at all.

I had a great experience. I wasn’t sure what to expect but the crew helped me check my bags and made sure I got in the correct line to board. It was a bit of a walk to my gate so arrive early. I would recommend securing a flight that includes checking in your bag if you remotely think your baggage is over 10kg/22lbs. Be safe and upgrade unless you are carrying a backpack or weekend type baggage.

The food was mediocre, the coffee was terrible. The entertaining selection was plentiful. They lost my checked luggage which put a damper on my 10-day vacation.

The ease of boarding was good. I wish they had something to eat on the plane.

The check in process at CDG was absolutely unacceptable. We arrived to the airport 3 hours and 20 minutes before our departure time, waited in line for 1 hour and 30 minutes to check in (despite having checked in online and only needing to check a bag), then were forced to check all of our rolling luggage despite the fact that all were compliant with carry-on requirements. The staff at the desk were rude and there were only two desks open, while eight people were working. The check in desk wasn’t even opened on time (3 hours prior to departure) and there was no communication about when it would open or why there was a delay. We feared missing our flight because the departure board was not updated, so rushed to our gate to board once we were through security because it was 20 minutes prior to departure, only to wait another 30 minutes before boarding even started. Communication was lacking throughout the process. What a horrible end to our trip.

I like Aer Lingus so that is why I’m writing this critique so they can become better. The boarding gate was too small to board properly. Our seats were toward the back of the plane knowing we would be boarding after business class, we moved to that area after business class boarded. An Aer Lingus employee told us we couldn’t stand there. We explained we were the next group to board and wouldn’t even be able to hear when our boarding was called. She didn’t care and was not very professional. The cabin was freezing. I wouldn’t feed my dog the food. We were over an hour late coming into chicago because of weather which can’t be avoided. I asked the crew if they could make an annoucement for before whose final destination is chicago to wait and allow the people with connecting to deplane first. He said there are a lot of people with connecting flights. He said, it doesn’t matter. Well, yes it does. He could have been more considerate of his passengers.

Really helpful staff at the airport and the flight was comfortable with good entertainment options and food service

The flight was delayed by about an hour, but the staff and signs at the airport never actually said it was delayed. We were told we'd be boarding in about 10 minutes, then 20 minutes passed, and were told again that we would board in about 10 minutes. That happened multiple times, such that "10 minutes" turned into an hour.

It was fine. We were delayed leaving but a situation of too many planes, not the airlines fault.

I would definitely use a Linus again, the price was right, the service is excellent. No delays. Wish I had a direct flight from my hometown Detroit.

At check-in the unmanned machines said QR code was invalid so had to queue for over an hour to check in bags

Not happy with price of luggage or that we had no choice but to pay whether cabin or hold. I didn't book seats but this is unnecessary extra money along with suitcase

We accidentally purchased twice the bags we needed. Our fault, but the ticket was not clear to us, and it asked us to purchase bags at checkin. When we notified them to get credit back at the airport, they said to contact customer service. We flew the flight and then contracted customer service. They said no credits after the flight has flown. Not customer service oriented at all. They know we didn’t check that many bags and kept our money for a service they did not provide. Be aware and very careful of what you are purchasing from them because they will not make it right if there is an error.

sadly in Basel & Naples- no jetway we had to climb up and down stairs with our max size carry-on luggage, which was not fun!!!

This was our first time using them. I gave okay ratings for food and entertainment because it was minimal or not provided so I couldn't judge, but much better than most budget carriers we have ever used.

We were charged a ridiculous amount for a name spelling error on ticket which I would’ve corrected if I received pre-check info more than 1/2hr before flight. Then we were told at ticket counter that our bags were fine for boarding but then we’re charged another ridiculous amount to take in our luggage despite being told differently. Flight itself was great. Charges were unfair.

Apart from an email about re configuring passenger seating less than 24hrs before flying it was all good.

There were a lot (4 I think) of EasyJet flights leaving Agadir, we arrived two and a half ours before our flight. Very slow to get through the booking in, passport control and security!! We had booked in on line but had to Queue with others who had not to drop our bags off!,

We boarded and then sat on the tarmac for an hour….probably not E Jets fault. But the gentleman that checked us in and took our luggage was exceptionally friendly and calming for early morning/ confused passengers. As always, it’s the people that make or break an experience, right?

I was hesitant to book with a low cost airline due to previous experience but Easy Jet surpassed my expectations. I would definitely book a flight with them again! Seemless booking, upfront about baggage fees, professional, and helpful staff.

Kayak sent several notifications that the flight was late. This contradicted the information on the airport boards. This was extremely confusing and we very nearly missed the flight purely because we double checked with the info desk when the flight stays said’closed’. Kayak notifications are therefore unreliable and pointlesa

It's not the staff's fault. The cabin crew do their best but the setup in Stansted Airport by Ryanair is poor. The herding of people like cattle is unacceptable before boarding and is something that's in every airport but only in Stansted have I seen the queueing of passengers outside the plane on the tarmac and the crew only turning up with maybe 5 minutes to depart. This is a resource issue . Yes prices are good but seemingly comes with a price of poor treatment of customers. I'll pay more next time

On time arrival but the aircraft had seen better days and needed a deep clean.

It was appalling, full of young people who were drunk and disobeying instructions to sit down. Crew did nothing to enforce. There was a Ryanair pilot sitting in the aisle opposite me who talked through out the safety briefing so loudly I couldn’t hear. Whole thing felt unsafe

Delayed for 2 hours lack of communication no refreshments as promised and the drinks on board were not as ordered and refused to refund

Straight forward checking as long as you have completed every single detail online, prior to checking day. Efficient boarding, seating is ok for a two hour flight. Fulfilledour travel requirements from Manchester to Marseille.

Good but both flights were delayed by nearly one hour making boarding tedious. We had to wait with no information

I couldn’t understand the aircraft tannoy announcements I was in seat 20C - nobody in our row could either. Speakers a bit too quiet plus messages read out too fast. Otherwise excellent flight. (Flight delayed by 50 mins)

Unnecessarily delayed and remarkably inefficient boarding contributed to a significantly delayed departure. Seats/legroom astonishingly uncomfortable even by Ryanair standards (minimal legroom plus reinforced plastic seat backs ensure you get punched hard in the knees every time the person in front moves, and as a 6-foot passenger I had nowhere else to put my legs. Upon late arrival at the gate in Luton we were kept waiting another 20 minutes before being allowed off the plane. Both Easyjet and Wizzair are currently a better bet.

I bought my flight, insurance etc early and paid over £200. But had i waited until closer the time the price was much cheaper, i appreciate that it could've been more expensive but it wasn't. A better discount for booking early would be better than your current one

Awful as usual the air stewardess loved her own voice and would not stop talking on coms for 2hrs please please please shut up I can’t hear my headphones and don’t want to buy juty free
