The hotel has a funny smell. I didn't like it.
The staff was very friendly. The rooms were nice and clean. The continental breakfast was very good. And in a good location if you want to see the city.
Very affordable price (except parking ). The hotel is within walking distance of all kinds of great places: restaurants, bars, Union Square, Japan Town, etc. The bed are big and comfy! The ice machine was kind of hidden on the third floor. Kind of weird. Also, no fridge or microwave in the room.
Location Bed was not very comfortable, rooms were small, AC was bad and could not be adjusted after a point, bathroom light kept flickering, expensive parking, included breakfast was of a poor quality, no bathtub in the bathroom.
This place was rated 3 stars. We went into it knowing that. It met our expectations. Great location, clean, good price. Staff were excellent. The bed was surprisingly comfortable. Nothing. Was exactly what we expected.
The only thing I did not like is that the hotel os smoke free. The need to offer a place for guests to smoke outside
Nothing Everything. Especially the manager.
no air conditioning
The bed was exceedingly cozy, and the room was spacious. I don't know if all rooms are that spacious, or just the handicapped-accessible ones. The free breakfast was decent. There was a strange smell I couldn't really identify, which first reminded me of a grandparent's home. When I returned to my family, I was told I smelled like a bandaid, and that was similar to the room's smell. Not unpleasant, just disconcerting.
The Opal is an older building with beautiful architecture and charm. To get into the lobby you have to be a guest, using your room key to unlock the front doors. I was so much more relaxed within the hotel with this added security. It is in an excellent location to good food and sight seeing and if driving, is easy to get to from 101 and they also have a private, gated parking garage! We will definitely stay at the Opal San Francisco in the future! Would recommend curved shower rods to give a little extra room. Because of being an older building the electrical outlets are minimal and had to do some rotation of electrical devices.
Front desk person was very helpfull. Carpet with stains and smelly.
Bird poop on my car even though it's covered parking. Noise from garbage container cleaning at 10 pm and 7 am right below my room. Getting from parking to lobby is just sketchy.
Atmosphere, Location. A/C is perfectly setup. Great Shower/Bathroom combo Room next to the ice machine and elevators was rather loud. Pillows felt used and hard. Bed was not comfortable.
Great value for money. Comfortable and Spacious rooms with balconies. Great location for sushi. Good resturant and breakfeast Resturant and room service are off for monday and Tuesday
very nice hotel in japantown
bar and restaurant were closed rooms were nice
Beds are comfortable and is in a good location. Under renovation, the AC wasn't working so we had to sleep with the door open, which is loud outside
Location, & staff. Carpet in my room smelled.
The Japanese decor is calming. Nice neighborhood, walking distance to nice restaurants. Room is oddly designed. TV not easily viewed from bed. And the bathroom is not typical -- I think it has a Japanese influence so perhaps it is a comforting design for those familiar with Japan, but for others it seems strange. A deep thin tub with shower, no shower curtain, then the sink in a middle area that has wall to wall carpeting, and then the toilet in another room that you have to step up and over to enter.
We liked the friendly staff. Rooms were clean and comfortable. I would definitely come back and stay with my family .
- Very pleasant check-in experience - Attractive lobby - Attractive rooms - Nice area of town - Decent rates - Exercise room is about what you'd expect from a hotel - Free WiFi is slow, urges you to "upgrade" for a fee
location the lady in the front was not friendly.
The staff were the most friendly and helpful of most of the hotels I've expetienced. We stayed there due to a close relative being in Cal Pacific Medical Center unexpectedaly from out of the area. They were so accommodating and extended our stay when complications arised. The restaurant was great and we loved Bill the bartender. We never felt like we were not welcome. The shuttle to the hospital was invaluable and saved us money in extra parking fees. I would not hesitate to stay here again under similar circumstances. We also enjoyed the restaurants in Japan town. They were wonderful. The only thing we didn't like was the road noise in the room. Our home is in an area that u Is extremely quiet so we are not used to city noises. Mew have traveled extensively and stayed in noisy cities where hotels are much quieter. I must say we are more sensitive to noise so take that into account. We would stay there again if we needed too.
The staff was very friendly, and the common areas (japanese gardens, lobby etc) were all well designed to create an upscale appearance Our room looked like it had been neglected by the maintenance staff. The carpet was worn down and ripped, and the ledge along the window was scuffed and chipped. (room 2403)
Very good value. Nice looking and simple hotel for a very reasonable rate. Just what I was looking for. Nice breakfast and good views. Took my wife and baby with me on a business conference trip. Room worked well for the baby with enough space for the crib provided unlike other hotels I saw. Overall very solid hotel. Location was not the best but I knew that going in. Some of the surrounding streets were a little sketchy at night. Not a big deal for me but maybe for some others. Parking pricey at $45 a night but all hotels in SF are about this expensive.
Convenient location especially the cable car stop adjacent to the hotel. Room temp was difficult to manage.
simple place for business. very clean, beautiful view of the city and part of the bay. staff was helpful. good for late checkins, as checkin is 3pm, so make sure to call or check in prior to arrival. pool was closed for renovations, but that really isn't a complaint since they will be upgrading it which is great. maybe breakfast was kind of expensive, i payed $19 for the buffet when it was just me. so kind of high, $15 would have been more reasonable given the limited choice in food.
Front desk was extremely helpful. I needed to cancel my reservation to relocate closer to the hospital where my family member was undergoing surgery for a brain tumor. However, I had booked the room through Expedia. The manager assured me that the hotel would not charge a cancellation fee, given that Expedia advertises no cancellation fees except as subject to the hotel. He was willing to be put on the phone with Expedia to explain the waiver. While on the phone with Expedia, I was put on hold for 30 minutes, then reprimanded by the Expedia representative that I would be charged a cancellation fee of the first night's stay. She refused to let me speak to the manager, and also refused to speak to the hotel manager who had happily obliged to discuss the matter with her. I was continually placed on hold, only to have her come back to the phone to reprimand me. I am grateful to the hotel manager for his hospitality which was in stark contrast to my telephone encounter with Expedia. Expedia and the false advertising of no cancellation fees, as well as the rude telephone spokesperson.
The room service was good and the beds were comfy We booked it becuase of the pool but when we got there we found the pool was closed for the whole of our stay. The location wasn't particularly good for sightseeing.
The room itself as well as the bathroom were very spacious and comfortable, certainly value for money (although a bit old-fasioned styled). The staff at the hotel was very friendly, but not able to check previous charges on the credit card (already confirmed by my bank), "the system is down now" was the suspicious answer I got. This is probably just holiday inn's policy and may have nothing to do with the staff's skills, who were always very helpfull. The parking is extremely expensive compared to the public parkings around.
Nothing in particular. If you reserve with Booking they give you the room next to the elevator which is very noisy during all the day. The staff is not very professional; I asked to change the room and they told me that in that day the were complete and the move to the other room was possible only the day after. These was completely false because a friend of mine reserved a room for the same day 30 min. after. Parking very expensive, in the nearby street you can find easy parking for the half price. The zone is not very beautiful, the only nice thing is the cable car stop next to the exit.
the staff were the best. Baker on reception was a great help nothing to add
One of the best business travel experiences ever Nothing
I like the view and the complimentary wine tasting.. Our room at the 20th floor had a great view of the city at night.. Even tho it was a short stay on our 10th year aniversarie it was a great one..
well the first day i opened my curtains and had a panoramic view of the bay. it was an absolutely georgous view of the city and bay, it could not have been better. nothing
Friendly Staf, clean rooms. City c Highly expensive parking!!!
Queen Anne is a beautiful place to stay in San Francisco. The staff and service were great. The location is the best I was able to walk and enjoy the many scenes of San Francisco. I love the history of Queen Anne and love that they have the history printed out for you to look at. I also love their tea, sherry and treats that they give out at 4pm every day. It was great to wake up and enjoy breakfast in this wonderful establishment. I hope to visit again soon. Wish they had bacon for breakfast. The smell of bacon gets me up in the morning.
The place really has a charm, and the moment you walk through the door you feel like there is nothing the staff won't do for you - and do it with a smile. It is very cosy and welcoming. The afternoon tea/coffee/sherry and cookies is a lovely touch too. Also, the cinnamon scent throughout constantly made us stop and sniff appreciatively. There weren't a lot of restaurants nearby - but then again, the ones that were close were lovely (especially the Persian).
I loved the location, and overall appearance of this hotel. The staff was awesome. I enjoyed the tea, and coffee, and continental breakfast. The beds had plastic liners which were noisy when rolling over or changing positions.
My wife & myself stayed at Queen Anne for 5 nights during our trip. We are so pleased with the service. Although it is like an old historic house, everything is tidy & clean. Giving us a feeling of warmth & like home. Furniture & things are all like antique. Roberto and Rita, the concierge was superb giving us very very good recommendation & always helpful tips. People there were very nice & friendly, the kind that we couldn't get from those chain hotels. Will certainly stay there again next time we visit San Francisco. Cheers, you guys at Queen Anne are great.
Very accommodating staff. Pretty central location with decent breakfast options. Afternoon sherry, tea and cookies enjoyable. No fan in room so needed to open windows for air movement and then had some traffic noise. Better bedside lighting for reading. Maid service was just ok but not through.
Courtious staff, reasonable price and good location
The staff was very helpful and courteous. The downstairs common areas were very spacious and comfortable. The complimentary Internet service did not quite reach my room - the signal was weak and therefore I was unable to conduct any electronic business.
coziness in the hotel, fireplace on, 4 pm sherry time
The staff was very helpful
The rooms were clean and comfortable. Friendly staff. Nice morning breakfast to start the day. Love the cozy and warm ambience. Hope to stay again on a future trip.
The room was large as was the bed. The sheets and pillows were fabulous. The decor is totally themed Victorian but with modern bathrooms and TV. I moved to a back room which was very quiet. Staff was helpful. Breakfast included was fine - even had a fresh waffle-making machine. Originally I was in a room on the 2nd floor facing Sutter Street which was noisy so I switched to a back room that was quiet.
the location, the staff, the decor, other guests The darkness of the room facing a wall across a narrow space
The hotel staff was absolutely wonderful! Always trying to be helpful! The decor was very unique and enchanting. The beds were very comfortable.
we loved the bartender - she was awesome - we talked about saki and where she was from, what her parents drank...she was terrific!!!
This was the first time that we stayed in a hotel in such close proximity to Japantown and we were not disappointed. The feel of the hotel was that of a boutique-style hotel where the staff was very attentive to our needs. The decor of the rooms were nothing that we have seen before and was such a pleasant surprise. We would definitely recommend this hotel to other travelers to the San Francisco area.
Funky hotel with bed rooms & great beds! The neigbourhood was v. interesting - lots of shops & services nearby but no tourists
Fun design, good food at Mum's restaurant All was good.
Funky modern design, good location for Japantown. Nice view Check in was slow and room is pretty spartan, if "funked up" with Japanese kitsch. Although we ordered a King we got two small Queens
Big double beds, the design of the bedroom, location of the hotel in Japantown (calm area of the city), bus stop opposite the hotel, good connections to downtown. Nothing in particular
Very nice and modern rooms with Manga on the walls - perfect!
Very well located...professional staff, very clean and friendly hotel. Japantown is the best and safest way to discover San Francisco. Free Wifi and lcd Tv: Simply perfect Rates are excluding taxes and city tax, so please pay attention to final total
Very friendly and helpful staff.
It's like you're really staying in someone's mansion! The feel is not like you're in a hotel but in a fancy home. I liked how quiet it was, and tables to use downstairs. Also loved how big my room was with a desk I could use! Most hotels these days dont have workspace. Loved that there was a fridge in the room but the microwave was downstairs in a kitchen area so you ate down there - that way the room didn't smell. Couldn't figure out the thermostat
I really like the old-time feel of the building and it has been very well maintained. The office staff were kind and helpful.
Good appearance and style Small room for the money and no AC.
Could be a nice place, but shower did not work at all.
Its a beautiful old inn. The rooms are huge with nice living rooms and big bay windows. Its the highest bed i've been in. The WIFI kind of sucked so it may not be great for biz travel if you need to be seriously online.
The friendly staff and antiquated-design style. The bathtub was leaking water.
Very artistic No airconditioning There is only one elevator. Can get busy.
How unique it is... Rooms small but well organized and works.
Furniture, decoration and bath tub old style . very comfortable in general. The lobby, bar and restaurant beautiful ! Some more maintenance in room, one curtain not working properly, one light not working, fridge a bit noisy and one spider in one corner of the ceiling
Rooms were clean and staff was helpfull. Reminded me of a quaint European hotel Staff was disorganized, restaurant was expensive, no air condition.
Loved it, can't wait to go back
the late check in at 3pm. it would b nice to see that info somewhere. i could have missed it though. Earlier check in would b nice. Otherwise nice place.
The decor was magnificent. Only problem was in the bathroom the shower was either too hot or too cold. The temperature is difficult to control. Also, they don't offer complimentary breakfast that you would get at a normal hotel. Plus the parking fee was $35/night which was definitely out of our budget. It was convient in location because it's only about 15 mins from fisherman's wharf and 10 mins from Chinatown. I would say my experience was alright with the hotel but I wouldn't stay at this hotel again.
Dirty carpet, dirty walls, moldy shower.
The "free parking" is not guaranteed to be the lot in the picture and unfortunately this was the sole reason we chose this place, we refused to park in the alley where I stepped in pee. After arguing with the clerk for 10 minutes, that the manager must have some type of contact number, we finally spoke with the manager to ask for a refund. The manager refused to recognize the misleading pictures & information regarding parking, provided by Civic Center Inn. He was extremely combative & only let up once we told him we'd quote the insane crap he was telling us on Yelp, and here. That's when his entire demeanor changed. I wouldn't suggest anyone staying here. The room was sketchy, too.
A lot nicer than I thought it would be compared to the reviews the area wasn't bad at all No larger towels for shower, could tell they really pushed penny's there.
Toilet broke twice, the wi-fi didn't work.
Nice place to rest and regroup No microwave or fridge
The location was pretty much near the center of the city. They said all rooms were non-smoking, but I clearly saw a cigarette burn on our blanket the first night. Also, the bathroom easily gets dirty (the tile floor). The TV freezes and then turns off by itself many times which can get annoying.
Exelente cutomer service, ask for Victor really nice guy. Have parking but was full the weekend so you have to park on the street( if you can find a spot)
The cost for the room Missing alot of furniture
Nothing It was a horrifying experience. My family heard shouting and fighting from all over the place through out the night. The police and an ambulance came. Never dared to find out what happened. Also you get to smell pod from other rooms. The bed sheet had holes and burned marks. The elevator was either broken or turned off with no signs stating why. The AC didn't work. Called for repair but never showed up. When we checked out in the morning, there was a used condom on the ground right next to my car door. It's cheap, but what you pay is what you get.
The hotel offer a good price, clean rooms, close to Polk St. and many cafes and restaurants. The location can be a little upsetting at night.
I didnt like the location. The neighbourhood is very very dodgy. As a female traveling alone, I didnt feel comfortable walking around in the neighbourhood. Not value for money considering what I paid, and the poor location. No laundry services available on site the hotel.
Very noisy. People yelling outside the hotel and ambulance contsnatly driving by until 4am. Its an excellent hotel, unless of course, the guest wishes to sleep. I ended up checking out after night 1 of my three day trip to SF.
Easy to get, independence (you do not have to talk with the staff), quiet although there is some noise outside. The internet only works near the front desk (I think is a misconfiguration) and most of the time is very slow.
The room was large with a refrigerator and huge closet. it was very close to the event we were attending. the pricing was not over exaderated and the room felt very comfortable the elevator was broke
Location Light bulbs that was burnt out
Good location for my purposes; and the price was right. Comfortable bed and clean bathroom. The desk clerk was friendly and helpful (a big difference from last year, when the former male clerk went out of his way to be obnoxious). The porno house across the street is gone. Very bad unidentifiable smell in the room. I was too tired to ask for a change, so have only myself to blame.
The guy at the front desk checked us in 3 hours early just to be nice. They were very accommodating when we checked out too - let us leave our luggage there until we returned. They were prompt about getting us anything we needed during our stay. It is very close to Fisherman's Warf (20 min. Bus ride - and the buses come every 3 - 6 min.) and a whole lot cheaper than anything at the war The elevator is definitely old and slow. It only fits 5 people (barely) and it can be incredibly slow - so our recommendation is take the stairs when you come down in the morning.
The bathroom and beds were clean. We did not like the neighborhood and the smell inside the hotel. We felt very uncomfortable while walking on the street in the evening. The staff wasnt friendly.
central location / good quality for price / parking lot right next door
chocolats in the front desk not so good neighbourhood
close to busline manager very friendly and helpful.
the woman on the desk was extremely helpful and understood when we had to leave a day early. This place is in the middle of the downtown area. It has many homeless and beggars and we felt unsafe, especially at night. Coming from NZ this was a culture shock and was difficult to come to terms with. However we were safe, car was untouched and all was well. This is entirely due to the great staff vigilance. I want to thank them.
The staff was nice. Location, Thin Walls, No TV Channels, Leaky faucets
Unbelievable customer service! We were able to leave our car here, after check-out, while we ran the Nike Women's Marathon 2010. We returned at ~ 3:00, cold and wet, to pick up the car. When we arrived, we were shocked to learn that they had held our room for us and let us take hot showers before heading home! That really made our day. As we expected, the neighborhood is 'iffy'. And noisy.
The neibourhood is not so bad, like the guest reviews wrote. The Staff looks very criticly who enter the building. We feel us save.
Room, linens, and mattress were clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. The gated parking area below the lobby made me feel more secure about leaving my vehicle overnight. The location was a short Uber ride from AT&T Park. It was a great spot to crash after a baseball game. I would stay again. The bed was definitely not luxurious or comfortable, but it served its' purpose. The inn is old, and could use some updating, but my room wasn't in disrepair.
Liked the price, the location was pretty good and a bus stop close by. A little out dated and could be cleaned better, attention to detail is not the hotels specialty.
Well located, but wish I would have spent the extra $40 to stay at the Motel 6 nearby. The shower was moldy and the beds uncomfortable.
The location was nice right in the civic center. The best part by far and probably the reason I chose this hotel was for the Parking. It's free guest parking! There's potential in this hotel to be something better but it needs a lot of updates. The walls were paper thin, we heard music and regular conversation from the room next door at 2 am, I didn't want to complain - they weren't even being loud and obnoxious, just having normal volume levels of conversation - and yet you could hear it all! The room is outdated and furniture is not in great shape. Yelp wanted of bed bugs but we didn't encounter any! Still it isn't the kind of place where you would be surprised to find them. They should put some effort into making those hotel better - it feels like they tried to a decade ago and have since forgotten to keep it up.
The location was centrally located and safe. I liked that they have free parking. Huge plus! Awesome water pressure. The hotel is dated. The door in the bathroom was swollen. Hard to shut. We didn't have fitted sheets. But again, for the price and location, it does the job.
-good location, its in the city itself -relatively cheap -the best part about this hotel is the FREE INDOOR PARKING, it is hard to find parking in SF, so it is a great place to leave your car in the parking lot and take public transportation or walk around. You can ask the front desk to close the gate for the parking lot at night, so nobody breaks into your car. -did not see any bed bugs -relatively quiet at night, it was March though -family friendly and secure for the most part -rooms are a bit outdated, but clean for the most part, you get what you paid for -rooms are a bit outdated, but not a big deal for me -not really the hotel's problem, but SF has a homeless problem....its very apparent about 2 blocks away from the hotel.
If you're looking looking for a relatively cheap (by SF standards) place to stay, the Oasis is a good choice. We found it clean, the beds were comfortable, and it had showers with ridiculously high flow shower heads that are true delight (if not highly against code!) - we're talking a gallon a second if you want it! It's located in a nondescript neighborhood that is relatively safe after dark - most cheaper rooms than this will put you in neighborhoods you do want to stay in. It's not really near anything of interest except the Civic Center area, but it's pretty easy to get anywhere by taxi or mass transit. There is a Burger King, a sushi joint of untested quality, a Wallgreen's, and a hooch and general vice store within 100 yards - so all your base needs are met. The place is old and run down. Very tired. Like you walk up to the front door and the automatic door is broken, so you have to slide the front door open by hand. But, past the front desk you walk into a tiny little courtyard with tables and chairs - and it does feel like your own little, relaxed and spartan sanctuary within the bustle of SF. So if you've got an open mind and half an ounce of adventure the place does have a certain charm. Think of all you can do with the $300/night you'll be saving versus a better, but nothing to write home about room you'd get elsewhere.
Nothing really We weren't informed that our room was flooded and that we had to go to another hotel which was very ghetto.
I know it's in SF but $150 a night is not worth it for this dump
Great location in the heart of San Francisco. Easy to locate and great walking distance to major bus stops. Saved a lot of money. Nearby sketchy neighborhood. Room had a huge water spot in the ceiling with wall and ceiling paint and debris coming off.
Free parking. Walking distance to Bill Graham Civic Auditorium. Elevator to all levels, including parking garage. Cleaning service left us a bag of towels at our door even though we had do not disturb sign on door (most places skip cleaning when you have the sign up, but it was great they left us extra towels!). Wi-fi. Parking garage looked sketchy with old mattresses/junk laying around. No microwave/fridge. Outdated.
Not much actually. Man at frontdesk does'nt like his job.
confort, breakfast included localization near a street that look as unsafe
Location, free parking and clean room Stuff could be more polite
clean, good location ,cheap, basic.Small breakfast, limited parking, stuff like they were angry all the time, not friendly at all stuff
Nothing. Literally nothing. Everything. Literally everything. This could be the worst hotel I've ever stayed at. Drug dealers only.
It's location Parking is limited
The staff were extremely helpful You need a refridgerator and micro wave
The room was clean, modern funiture and well-tended the urban enviroment was not the best
Close to downtown and shopping center. Breakfast in the morning. Wi-fi available in the room.
Friendly staff at check-in. Free local calls could be made from the room. Breakfast was tasty although it did take us a few trips to carry food from downstairs up to room - but the waffles were delicious. Seemed to be in a part of town with some "characters" in the street, but we didn't feel bothered/ unsafe in any way, and could walk to sights of interest: Union Square, Fisherman's Wharf. Checked out very early and staff emailed final bill. Good tasty food at nearby restaurants. Confusingly, the hotel had lots of "Comfort Inn" logos on towels/brouchures, etc and our shuttle driver claimed that the hotel had changed it's name in the last week and therefore it took him longer to find it (as he had to use the street address rather than knowing the hotel).
It was extremely clean, there is free parking and internet and it is quite centrally located.
It has HBO I think this hotel should be removed from booking.com. It is in a scary area, and: we couldn't sleep because there where men hanging around in front of our rooms' door for all night, and both rooms next to us where full of men talking loud and screaming. We felt scared and left the hotel in the middle of the night to find another hotel.
room was very big and clean, staff friendly. Its not a brand new hotel but everything was clean. good value. the area is not great, but safe during the day. if you travel by car you are safe anyway, wouldn't recommend walking at night there.
Close to everything, price was perfect!
good location older worn out building
Room was clean very well and staff very helpfull good value for money. no
good location, almost in downtown, big clean room hotel has only limited number of park places so if you come late (as we did) you must park on street which isn't for free.
No hot water for showers both mornings. Very loud, hard to relax and sleep. People talking loud, parking garage is below the rooms and not covered so you can hear people taking, car doors slamming, cats coming and going etc. The empty the garbage dumpster between 5am and 6am through the garage and that is very fricking loud. Walls are very thin and toy can hear people talking in the next room. Not a place to get rest and relaxation. Parking lot is small and you will most likely have to park on the streets which are full of homeless drunks and druggies.
check in was a breeze the cockroach on the pillow .
Everybody was very nice, and I could take the pubic tranportations easily. The elevator was not clean
Only dislike was the fluctuating water temperature while showering.
The price and the free parking. Terrible internet service that did not work most of the time. Stairway smelled like urine. Rooms were kinda gross looking.
The room looked and smelled like they just used cheap carpet powder. It had bedbugs and the staff was very rude!!
