FAQs - booking Colombia flights

  • Which car hire facilities are at El Dorado International Airport?

El Dorado International Airport has more than 20 car hire companies you can choose from, including Avis, Budget and Sixt. These companies have a range of car models to fit your taste and budget. Once you arrive, head towards security, past the international arrival area, where you will find the car hire centre.

  • Should I fly to Colombia with my child's seat?

In Colombia, kids under 10 years are not allowed in the front seat, while those below two years should ride in the back with the appropriate car seat. You do not have to fly with your car seat, as you can easily hire them at the car hire centre on arrival at El Dorado International Airport.

  • Should I bring local currency to Colombia?

It is a good idea to bring Colombian pesos, as British pounds are not widely accepted for exchange. If they are, you will get a better rate in the UK than in Colombia and airports may charge you a transaction fee. Also, if you must exchange for Colombian pesos, is better do it so in reliable places such as airports, hotels, etc.

  • Are there direct flights to Colombia?

The only direct flights to Colombia land in Bogotá. To travel to any other parts of Colombia, there is usually at least one stopover en route. The only airline that provides direct flights from London Heathrow (LHR) to El Dorado airport is Avianca. This is also the only direct route available.

  • Which flights to Colombia should I look at if I want to visit the Amazon?

The Amazon is a large region, but its capital is Leticia, which is home to the largest airport in the region and makes a good base for exploring. There are no direct flights from the UK to Alfredo Vasquez Cobo International Airport (LET) in Leticia, and almost all flights will stop in Bogotá with a rather long stopover. It might be better to fly to El Dorado International Airport and book a separate domestic flight to Leticia, which may also be cheaper.

  • Where do I fly to if I want to visit the Hacienda Napoles?

You should fly to the Jose Maria Cordova International Airport (MDE) in Medellin, which is the nearest major international airport to the Hacienda Napoles (approx. 93 mi).

  • How long is the flight to Colombia?

An average direct flight from the United Kingdom to Colombia takes 22h 15m, covering a distance of 5176 miles. The most popular route is London - Bogotá with an average flight time of 10h 50m.

  • What is the cheapest flight to Colombia?

The cheapest ticket to Colombia from the United Kingdom found in the last 72 hours was £318 one-way, and £517 round-trip. The most popular route is London Heathrow to Bogotá El Dorado and the cheapest round-trip airline ticket found on this route in the last 72 hours was £634.

  • Which airlines fly to Colombia?

Air India, Avianca & Air China fly the most frequently from the United Kingdom to Colombia.

  • What are the most popular destinations in Colombia?

Based on KAYAK flight searches, the most popular destination is Bogotá (59% of total searches to Colombia). The next most popular destinations are Medellín (18%) and Cali (10%). Searches for flights to Cartagena (6%), to Barranquilla (2%) and to Pereira (2%) are also popular.

  • How does KAYAK’s flight Price Forecast tool help me choose the right time to buy?

KAYAK’s flight Price Forecast tool uses historical data to determine whether the price for a given destination and date is likely to change within 7 days, so travellers know whether to wait or book now.

Top tips for finding cheap flights to Colombia

  • Enter your preferred departure airport and travel dates into the search form above to unlock the latest Colombia flight deals.
  • Once you find cheap flights to Colombia, you will likely land at Bogota El Dorado International Airport (BOG), about 7 miles (11 km) from the city centre. The main transfer options include taxis or shuttle buses. On arrival, you can head to Terminal 1, where there is a shuttle bus. This shuttle will get you to the city centre via Centro Andino. Consider a taxi for a faster and comfier drive to the city centre.
  • Once you arrive at El Dorado International Airport, you can nap in the sleeping cabins at Gate 54 Airside if you’re exhausted from your flight. Alternatively, you can walk to the onsite lounges for showering facilities and a post-flight drink or snack. These lounges include Avianca Lounge Bogota, El Dorado Lounge and Sala VIP LATAM, all within the security of Terminal 1.
  • There is a special assistance team to help travellers with mobility limitations on arrival. The airport also has easily accessible pathways and wheelchairs. Alert your travel agent at least 48 hours before your flight if travelling with mobility limitations. Once you arrive, you can board the bus outside the airport, as they have wheelchair lifts making it convenient for passengers with limited mobility.
  • If you are visiting Colombia, a good place to start is Bogotá, especially if you want to visit multiple cities. International flights to Colombia mainly land in El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá (BOG), so flying to Bogotá will give you more choices in terms of airlines. From there, El Dorado International provides many domestic flights to other cities if you would like to explore Colombia further.
  • As a British Citizen, you will be granted a stay of up to 90 days in Colombia without a visa. You may need to present proof of onward or return travel. Your passport must also have at least 6 months validity from the date you enter Colombia.
  • If you are travelling to the islands of San Andres, Providencia or Santa Catalina, you will require a tourist card that you can purchase from the airport you are travelling from, normally at the boarding gate, on the day of the flight. Travellers who are staying on the islands for less than 24h, or children under 7 years of age, do not need the tourist card. Confirm the with your airline before travelling.
  • Departure taxes are normally included in the airfare, but you should check with your airline. If they are not included and you are staying in Colombia for less than 60 days, you can apply for exemption at counters in the international airports in Colombia. If tax is included in your airfare, you can apply for reimbursement from your airline before your flight.
  • When departing, you may need to arrive at the airport a little earlier than usual, as some Colombian airports are trying to improve their services through expansion or remodelling.

All good- I love BA and the professionalism of the crew and pilots.

Great flight- smooth, nice crew, nice clean aircraft, departed a little late but arrived 10 early.

It was listed on my ticket as Finnair but there was no indication that the flight was Finnair. In fact the number was even different. There were no employees there until exactly 2 hours before so we had to wait in line at Iberia and hope

Sorting on line would have been appreciated Onward information on flights missed No ability to get seating arranged before we got to gate Very unfriendly at gate

The flight was Finnair but there was no indications anywhere that the checkin was for Finnair also. There was no one to ask. I think at a minimum they should list the code shares so people don’t stand in the wrong line for an hour.

I booked the flight with Finnair, which made the arrangements for downloading a boarding pass unnecessarily complicated. I wouldn't do that again. Instead I'd book direct with AA.

Had a nice flight to London on BA will fly with them again in the future

Finnair cancelled my flight 12 hours prior to leaving for Helsinki. They stated there were mechanical problems. I had to scurry around to find a new flight that would meet my needs for arrival in Helsinki. Luckily I was able to find alternate transportation through Lufthansa/United.

I’m very disappointed, to fly into an airplane for 10 straight hours, and not having a TV even though when I put the ticket I was told that I will have entertainment for the TV. Very disappointed.

Helpful steward. Allowed me to move to some empty seats and I was able to get some sleep. He also had milk for my tea. Americans don’t realise that cream or half and half ruin tea.

The personal at the front desk in Manaos was awesome, I have never experience anything like that before, the person who attended me deserves to have a promotion I still remember him, very educated, kind but overall he could put himself on your position

More than 3 hours of delay and not even a snack was given.

GOL made the flight experience a true delight. Everything was smooth, from the check in process, to the disembarking moment.

There was absolutely no food or drink service unless it was paid for. I am not used to this.

No complimentary food and beverage (water, soda, coffe) is offered for a six and a half hours long international flight, not even in premium economy, just to try to squeeze a few more dollars out of the passengers. First and last time flying with Avianca.

No complimentary food and beverage (water, soda, coffe) is offered for a six and a half hours long international flight, not even in premium economy, just to try to squeeze a few more dollars out of the passengers. Same happened in the connecting flight, which was three and a half hours long (Bogota x Miami). First and last time flying with Avianca.

No complimentary snacks food, beverage (not even water), pillow and blanket on a 6 hours long flight (including economy comfort). A low form of nickeling an diming. Lost a recurring passanger over a soda. Avianca never again.

Every food and beverage has to be paid and the seat was not confortable. They even gave water.

Flight departure late. Got late in Colombia making us take a different flight next day. Avianca airport crew messed up my ticket so when a I got in Brazil I didn’t have a ticket for my destination. Had to buy a new ticket out of my pocket.

Avianca: you pay for a high-end flight and you fly like a low (very low) cost!

Fast check in, easy to navigate, crew were very good, the plane was delayed due to a previous flight and I found the cleanliness a little lacking but overall it was fine

I would not fly with BA again. Packed in like sardines, constant request to turn down air conditioning due to freezing cold for hours and the food was pretty to look at but tasteless!

Iberia personnel on the ground is so rude. I would think twice in the future before booking another Iberia flight

I’m hoping for WiFi included. Everything else was very good

Seats, comfort level ugh. Crew was not attentive, only to coach

An average flight experience. For our transatlantic portion, they provided a main meal and two snacks. However, the food was not very tasty and the drinks far too small and infrequent for such a long flight. The regrettable part of the flight was that the toilets were extremely filthy. I feel this is unacceptable.

Pros: they tried to accommodate bc they forgot my gluten free meal Negatives: The flight was freeeeeezing Iberia didn’t communicate my gluten free meal

This flight was a code share for both Iberia and American Airlines and run by what I assume is a charter company Level. It was difficult if not impossible to get a seat assigned, check bags or use any customer service functions. I would skip it!

Overall not great . We had a 4 four hour plus delay on returning and communication about the changes was poor . No updates were given on the website or by e-mail . We subsequently missed a connection , were our on a later flight and then missed all public transport for our onward journey home. Needed to hire a car at some expense . One member if staff was rude at the gate

I called prior to flying to confirm our baggage allowance which was 5 bags. On our outbound flight thee were no problems. On the return flight we were charged for each bag totaling $400! We are working with customer service to resolve the issue.

Was delayed, did not end up flying to Victoria. Was not offered alternative accomodation or travel. Very dissapointed. Had to pay out of pocket for taxi, ferry, food etc.

There was no food or entertainment on this flight. Great flight crew though

Crew members were very polite and prompt in service. Cooling was very comfortable for a long journey but it's seats were stiff which are uncomfortable for a long travel

When we got to the airport for our flight from Chicago to Montreal which was scheduled for 2.00 p.m. they had no record of it and booked us on a flight at 3.30 very disappointing . We also had to pay 50.00 each for a seat. All things considered ,I will never book thru Kayak again. Next time I will only book directly thru Air Canada no second party booking Sue

It would still be nice to have a complimentary snack on a flight of 3+ hours

It was a refreshing experience from the past few times I have travelled with Air Canada.

Greetings to all the employees, they were very kind and welcoming. Excellent pilot, thank you for your efforts

I like air Canada. Very efficient… all on time and staff v good and engaging. If I have a criticism it’s that despite being provided with a gluten free meal (which was fine), there were none of the snacks that other passengers received (or a gluten free version) meaning that I was really very hungry but the something else was provided (after a 6-7 hour wait). I’m sure they could be a little more creative.

Crew was amazing. The seats give me a sore neck for days upon arrival to my destination. Perhaps Business Class seats are designed differently. I’m 5’4”, the neck portion of the seat may hit me strangely for my height range.

Complimentary snacks should be offered on a flight more than 3 hours long. Air Canada is not a low-cost airline. The choice of food on the in-flight bistro was limited and pricey. The in-flight entertainment system was not very good. The in-flight map did not work.

We paid to have overhead carry-on baggage. When we got to the gate we were told that our carry on bags would need to be checked and go below because the flight was full. Notably we were nowhere near the last people to board and about 30 other passengers also had to check their carry-on bags. Other than that the flight was fine.

Very bad plain although I paid A business class ticket I was stuck in a stiff fixed seat without any entertainment or Wi Fi for 5 hours I will never ever book a flight on British airline.

Self check in Kiosk did not recognize that I had prepaid for my luggage. This caused a 40 minute delay even though I had my British Airways email receipt for the prepaid luggage.

Crew were very friendly and helpful. They explained to us in detail the delay in our takeoff due to the storm that rolled in from Belfast and did their best to make up the time. Always great to fly BA!

Staff were very helpful. The free WiFi for messages was also very useful to keep in touch

Crew was more interested on looking at their phones than welcoming passengers during boarding.

The crew was very attentive and kept busy serving a variety of treats!

Terrible. Missed my flight to final destination because of delayed British Airways flight. Had to spend 12 hours in airport and $1500 for new plane tickets

The crew on board were all very pleasant and happy to help. The flight had the old business class seats. The departure board in the business lounge did not update and kept on saying ' gate open' but never said boarding. When I got nervous about the departure time and walked to the gate I was told off rudely for being late.

Offered vegetable curry when it was actually tofu which I don’t care for.
