FAQs - booking Colombia flights

  • Should I bring local currency to Colombia?

It is a good idea to bring Colombian pesos, as British pounds are not widely accepted for exchange. If they are, you will get a better rate in the UK than in Colombia and airports may charge you a transaction fee. Also, if you must exchange for Colombian pesos, is better do it so in reliable places such as airports, hotels, etc.

  • Are there direct flights to Colombia?

The only direct flights to Colombia land in Bogotá. To travel to any other parts of Colombia, there is usually at least one stopover en route. The only airline that provides direct flights from London Heathrow (LHR) to El Dorado airport is Avianca. This is also the only direct route available.

  • Which flights to Colombia should I look at if I want to visit the Amazon?

The Amazon is a large region, but its capital is Leticia, which is home to the largest airport in the region and makes a good base for exploring. There are no direct flights from the UK to Alfredo Vasquez Cobo International Airport (LET) in Leticia, and almost all flights will stop in Bogotá with a rather long stopover. It might be better to fly to El Dorado International Airport and book a separate domestic flight to Leticia, which may also be cheaper.

  • Where do I fly to if I want to visit the Hacienda Napoles?

You should fly to the Jose Maria Cordova International Airport (MDE) in Medellin, which is the nearest major international airport to the Hacienda Napoles (approx. 93 mi).

  • Which car hire facilities are at El Dorado International Airport?

El Dorado International Airport has more than 20 car hire companies you can choose from, including Avis, Budget and Sixt. These companies have a range of car models to fit your taste and budget. Once you arrive, head towards security, past the international arrival area, where you will find the car hire centre.

  • Should I fly to Colombia with my child's seat?

In Colombia, kids under 10 years are not allowed in the front seat, while those below two years should ride in the back with the appropriate car seat. You do not have to fly with your car seat, as you can easily hire them at the car hire centre on arrival at El Dorado International Airport.

  • How does KAYAK find such low prices on flights from the United Kingdom to Colombia?

KAYAK is a travel search engine. That means we look across the web to find the best prices we can find for our users. With over 2 billion flight queries processed yearly, we are able to display a variety of prices and options on flights from the United Kingdom to Colombia.

Cabin crew professional, polite and friendly, boarding was seemless, but come on KLM surely you can do better than a pack of cheesy biscuits as an inflight snack

Cabin crew were excellent, very proffesional, polite and friendly, in flight snack was underwhelming, a packet of cheese biscuits, im sure KLM could run to a sandwich!

Legroom not all it could be, especially when the seat in front is reclined. Otherwise it was good, food and beverage were nice.

This portion of the flight was through Indigo. A local carrier. So all economy seating. No real service some refreshments for purchase standard economy stuff.

Transfer at Amsterdam airport is very convenient and the airport is easy to navigate. Boarding was also quick and easy. Cabin crew were excellent and the meals were good, although lacking in options.

Overall very positive. Boarding was quick and organized. Cabin was clean and seats were reasonably comfortable. Cabin crew was excellent and the meals provided were also of good quality

This fight left ahead of time which meant it arrived early which was great. Staff were very professional, but as with all these Short hop Flights the food was a disappointing snack There was no entertainment on this flight, but I did not expect any

I flew premium economy and this was a good option. Although the seats didn’t recline much, I was able to get some sleep with my head propped against the window. The food was good and the entertainment was wonderful The staff were very attentive and professional

They only had vegetarian food left on the flight which I wasn’t happy about. I didn’t get any food to eat at all.

Great boarding, great short flight but no entertainment whatsoever and no wifi. Prepare to disembark by a staircase.

an absolute disaster and nightmare on air condition. IT WAS FREEZING!! everyone around us had hats, hoodies, gloves outdoor jackets on. that segment of the aircraft had a fault I assume...no amount of suggestion to turn down the air con helped. otherwise all good.

it was great only downfall was that the tvs weren't working but the rest was great specially the wifi

Everything was very good, short delay Toronto to Regina on my return to Canada but not a big deal. Thanks Kayak, Dr. Ian Stewart

Boarded smoothly, took off on time. Entertainment screens were reliable and the movie library is abundant. Food better than wtst was served on the first leg of the journey by another airline.

Air Canada business class used to be among the best among North American airlines, however it has gone downhill since the last time I flew with them. They didn't even offer any drinks prior to takeoff despite having over 30 minutes on the ground for boarding and de-icing. Once we got in the air the service was fine, however the food was lukewarm at best and just okay. The warm bread and spring mix salad was very good at least. My main complaint is they were letting economy guests use our washroom. Presumably because the Max 8 only has one in the rear. However as I was sitting in row 1 I constantly had passengers waiting in line for the toilet.

Check in was incredibly fast, fukuoka was comfortable and crew very pleasant. The only negative was that the boarding was somewhat chaotic, but it so often is these days as airlines tend to board by how much you pay and not by what an orderly process of filling the plane would be.

I had to change the gate so many times that I got confused.

It was ok. Even after the airport bus took us to the terminal , we did not expect to walk 35 mins inside the airport to the gate . A 15 min walk is ok . Especially if there was any delay in TSA check which happens to is too then people can easily miss the flight.

Excellent bit seats are still a little too small and there's that $75 baggage charge.

Very disappointed with how we left Heathrow, and the service from Air Canada. When food was given, I was skipped by the attendant, and when I went to tell him, he just dropped the tray of food on my table. Leaving Heathrow and landing in Montreal were bad, which is not Air Canada’s fault, but the service itself was not good.

Front desk was closed at 6 pm, I was unable to get my boarding pass and as such missed my connecting flight home.

Awful. The flight wasn't actually operated by Iberia, but by American Airlines. I was unable to get my boarding pass and as a result missed my connecting flight.

The airline refused to board me because I showed up only 50 minutes prior to departure time, despite the fact that shortly before that, when I arrived at the airport still in time, they changed the terminal and I had to take a bus that took 20 minutes. Keep in mind that for some maintenance error I could not check in online like I usually do. Personnel at the airport was unable to let me in, customer care was beyond useless, the original airline operator (Iberia) was as useless as a toilet paper roll core in time of a wipe and all this uselessness made me waste my ticket, my reservations, my long time parking, food and most of all the joy of being with my family for the new year after working my bottom off even at Christmas. Am I happy? Come and ask me in person!

Excellent with no delays and according to the time schedule.

The flight left Tanger two hours late and I missed my flight to Geneva.

The boarding was a nightmare. Iberia would not let me check in in advance. They then refused to issue a boarding pass in Paris and said I would get the boarding pass in Madrid. In Madrid, there was no transit desk, no help. I had to run around and find someone to issue the pass. I only had an hour and risked missing the connection. Only at the gate did Iberia tell me they were overbooked and had downgraded me. I was stressed, exhausted, almost missed the connection because of Iberia’s conduct. Unacceptable.

Overall a great. However, the seating is way too narrow, for guys with any shoulder width. Luckily the crew moved the guy next to me, or it would have been miserable.

The plane was not well maintained. The entertainment system didn’t work properly, eg moving map. Many of the seat controls did not work. Cabin temperature fluctuated considerably during the flight. The seat allocated was poor, it was noisy and offered no privacy. The perfume in the toilet triggered severe allergies. Crew was very goid.

I had assist travel booked in Denver to Manchester, but not listed in HeathRow, my daughter use a spare wheel chair herself for me , when going thro to board at Heathrow there was no help travel down for the ramp until a member of assistance stepped forward and insisted he would take me down the very steep ramp, seems he was the only person concerned with my safety.

Terrible. Boarding was a mess. We were assigned middle seats and separate just to induce us to pay for better seats. Cabin luggage was checked in while space remained on the overboard lockers. I think they don't really care about the customer.

They didn't even give us water, everything was sold

They should at least offer water like other airlines, which seems like a humanitarian gesture to me

They gave me an upgrade but charged me for my bag. I felt abused because this had never happened to me before with an upgrade with another airline.

Well. It is a no frills airline. Annoying is that even for the long-haul everything has to be paid for separately. Once you add up the extras the flight is getting to expensive. Then one might as well fly with a legacy carrier which provides far better comfort. Changing flight at MAD airport is a nightmare. The worst airport in the world. Poor signposting, poor passport control, poor security check and long queues. I had 2h transfer time and spend in queues almost 1.5h

All flights with Air Europa you arrive late to the connections of other flights, I missed my train, I had to pay for my train again, the crew are antisocial, you are paying for a service, it is not free, thanks to the travelers they are there, it is the last time I fly with them,

Terrible experience - we won’t be flying with Air Europa again

The crew was not kind , just doing their job but very cold people

The insanely long lines at customs were chaotic and stressful. They also created a lot of stress among passengers. Including fights and threats. The hot food I purchased was cold, barely edible. The check in staff and crew were nice and the pilot good but the overall experience was very disappointing. Passengers were still insulting each other upon arrival.

No frills airlines. Tickets were reasonably priced for a short-term booking. But comfort is a big issue.

It was just okay. They overcharged me for a checked bag because I didn’t know it wasn’t included in the airfare.

Late departure. When the flight arrived in Medellin the plane sat at the gate for 20 minutes waiting for a bus for us to get off the plane.

I receive a service for what I pay, so it is fair.

i think the flight was late because they were so strict about measuring everyone's personal items to try and charge them $119. It was really petty and made us late.

Purchased a business class ticket and got a economy seat with center seat blocked they call it business. 3100usd ticket on a flight where economy costs 500usd The biggest scam insult have had on a regular airline. Avianca should be in the low cost category and kicked out of Star Alliance. I want the difference to be credited. Ets see what Avianca does. No reply so far. Avianca = low cost airline. Beware

Excellent flight and one of the smoothest landing I’ve ever experienced

The seats were very uncomfortable. I would have upgrade or got different flight if I knew. I usually sleep in the plane but I couldn’t sleep at all. Very uncomfortable. Also no food or drink everything was to purchase, and that’s u usual for international flight.

We did not know about the bag fees until check in. They are way too high. It’s insane. We also had a huge delay and everything costed extra which was very annoying.

Boarding was somewhat confusing in that the wrong messages were being displayed at the gate. It was somewhat annoying that I got off one flight and straight onto another (from the same gate), but in between they re-checked my hand luggage and made me get rid of my water (which they charge for on the plane). I was sitting in their 'Plus' seating, but the leg room was still too small to be able to sit square. The food options on the flights are pretty cheap quality (but not price). They got me from 'A' to 'B' on-time and for a relatively good price, but the experience itself was below average.

Lounge for business was closed. Boarding was rush and stand by. Seat for business is just the middle seat blocked and some more leg room.

Flew with our two children. Paid $380 to check two bags (one was overweight). They then left the bags behind on Sunday, December 21st, with all our family’s clothes and family Christmas presents. When we arrived at our destination they told us the bags had not arrived, and they thought (but didn’t know) they were still in Boston, but that there’d be a flight the next day and the bags would arrive the next day. The next day we found out there was no flight, now we’re hoping we get our bags before we fly back out. Meanwhile, trying to get any engagement or accurate information is a waste of time. The folks at the call center are just gatekeepers, who can’t connect with any departments that actually do things to solve a problem. Getting information is made deliberately difficult. My biggest regret is that I’ve had a number of awful experiences with Avianca traveling between the US and Colombia, and still let myself get suckered into buying these tickets because the schedule was great. Never again.
