Vaccinated visitors from the United Kingdom can enter Iceland with a negative COVID-19 test result.

For restrictions that apply to vaccinated visitors, please check the official guidelines from Iceland for the types of accepted and permitted COVID-19 vaccinations, requirements on proof of vaccination certificates, vaccination validity period, and persons and/or groups that may be exempt from vaccination restrictions.


Iceland entry details and exceptions

Travelers entering Iceland must pre-register prior to arrival to the country. They are also obliged to confirm their departure date if it is available.

Individuals who are fully vaccinated are required to present either a negative PCR test or a rapid antigen test taken within 72 hours before departure to the country. Unvaccinated individuals are required to present a negative PCR test taken within 72 hours prior to departure to the country. Travelers who are unable to present a negative test prior to arrival will pay a fine of 100.000 ISK.

COVID-19 testing requirements
Test type

Visitors from the United Kingdom must present a negative RT-PCR (NAAT) test taken 72 hours before departing to Iceland.

Details and exceptions

Travelers who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 are exempt from presenting a negative PCR or quick antigen test at the border. They may show a positive PCR test that is older than 14 days old (isolation completed) but younger than 180 days instead. These people who have ties in Iceland are also exempt from providing a PCR test or quick antigen test within 48 hours upon arrival in the country.

Travelers with ties in Iceland (Icelandic citizens, individuals domiciled in Iceland, individuals who have an Icelandic work permit and applicants for a work permit or international protection in Iceland) are also exempt from presenting a negative PCR test prior to arrival in Iceland. However, they are required to undergo testing within 48 hours upon arrival in Iceland. They can undergo testing at no cost at the border or at a testing location in the country.

Children born in 2005 or later and connecting passengers who do not exit the border station are exempt from the rules at the border.

Quarantine requirements

Unvaccinated visitors from the United Kingdom will need to quarantine for 5 days upon entering Iceland.

Fully vaccinated visitors with approved vaccination certificates do not need to quarantine.

Details and exceptions

Unvaccinated travelers are required to undergo a 5-day quarantine in an approved quarantine accommodations in case home quarantine is not possible. Travelers will pay for their accommodation. Travelers are required to present another PCR test at the end of their 5-day quarantine period.

COVID-19 testing requirements
Test type

Unvaccinated travellers returning from Iceland must present a negative RT-PCR (NAAT) or Antigen (quick-test) test taken 72 hours before departure to the United Kingdom.

Fully vaccinated travellers with approved vaccination certificates do not need to present a negative COVID-19 test.

Details and exceptions

Qualified fully vaccinated travelers are not required to present a pre-departure test when traveling to England. However, they are still required to book and pay for a day 2 COVID-19 test which will be taken on or before day 2 after arrival in the country. An individual traveling to the country is considered fully vaccinated if he/she meets the qualification indicated here.

Travelers who are unvaccinated, partially vaccinated or those who are not qualified under the fully vaccinated rules are required to present a pre-departure test (to be taken any time in the 3 days before the departure date), day 2 and day 8 PCR tests. They may check the pricelist and order the test thru these authorized testing providers.

Travelers could be fined £500 if they are unable to present a pre-departure test.

Travelers from the Common Travel Area (the UK, Ireland, Isle of Man, Jersey, Guernsey, Ascension, Falkland Islands and St Helena) are exempt from the test requirement.

Quarantine requirements

Unvaccinated visitors returning from Iceland will need to quarantine for 10 days upon entering the United Kingdom.

Fully vaccinated visitors with approved vaccination certificates do not need to quarantine.

Details and exceptions

Travelers who are unvaccinated, partially vaccinated or those who are not qualified under the fully vaccinated rules arriving from non-red list countries are required to quarantine at home or in the place they are staying for 10 days.

Permitted travelers from the red list countries are mandated to quarantine in a managed hotel. They must be administered with day 2 and day 8 test. They will be required to continue their quarantine period regardless of the result of their day 2 test. For travelers who have positive result, quarantine will start from the date after the result of their day 2 test and they no longer need to use the day 8 test.

For travelers who will have a positive result after using the day 8 test, they will need to quarantine further. They will have to finish the quarantine starting from the date after the result of their day 8 test.

Travelers who have both negative result for day 2 and day 8 test will be out of the 10-day quarantine from the day they arrived in the country.

Travelers going to Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are advised to check further details regarding their quarantine.
