COVID-19 testing requirements
Test type

Visitors from the United Kingdom must present a negative RT-PCR (NAAT) or Antigen (quick-test) test taken 72 hours before departing to the United States.

This applies to ALL incoming air travelers even those who have been fully vaccinated.

Children under the age of 2 are exempt from presenting a COVID-19 test results.

Quarantine requirements

Visitors from the United Kingdom are not required to quarantine after entering the United States.

Details and exceptions

Travelers are recommended to quarantine between 7-10 days after arrival in the US.

A COVID-19 test is recommended to be taken 3-5 days after arrival. If the test is negative, it is recommended that travelers quarantine for 7 days. If the test is positive, they should self-isolate until recovery.

Travelers should check quarantine requirements for the specific states they are going to as some states such as Vermont and Hawaii have implemented mandatory quarantine for incoming international travelers.

COVID-19 testing requirements
Test type

Unvaccinated travellers returning from the United States must present a negative RT-PCR (NAAT) or Antigen (quick-test) test taken 72 hours before departure to the United Kingdom.

Fully vaccinated travellers with approved vaccination certificates do not need to present a negative COVID-19 test.

Details and exceptions

Travelers from the Common Travel Area (the UK, Ireland, Isle of Man, Jersey, Guernsey, Ascension, Falkland Islands and St Helena), will not be in scope of the regulations. Children under the age of 11 will also not be required to complete pre-departure testing.

Quarantine requirements

Unvaccinated visitors returning from the United States will need to quarantine for 10 days upon entering the United Kingdom.

Fully vaccinated visitors with approved vaccination certificates do not need to quarantine.

The isolation period can be shortened

After 5 days of quarantine at the earliest, travelers can get a PCR or antigen test. If the test is negative, travelers do not need to quarantine further.

Details and exceptions

Travelers arriving in England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland who have been in the Red Listed countries in the last 10 days are required to book and pay for a Managed Quarantine Package prior to travel. On arrival, they must quarantine for 10 days at a government quarantine hotel and take 2 COVID-19 tests during the quarantine. Travelers going to Wales should follow rules from their designated ports of entry in England or Scotland.

People who were vaccinated in the UK do not have to quarantine.
