FAQs - booking Cyprus flights

  • I want to see St Hilarion Castle, where should I fly to?

St Hilarion Castle is between Nicosia and Kyrenia. To get there, you should fly to Larnaca Airport, where you can a rent a car to drive across the border and on to St Hilarion Castle. You can find helpful information on KAYAK under the "Car Rental" tab. If you rent a car, you have to purchase additional insurance that covers travel north of the border and remember to check with the rental company whether you are allowed to drive the car to the north. There is no public transport that crosses the border and cab drivers from the south may not be willing to take you across the border.

  • I only want to visit Northern Cyprus, which airport should I fly to?

You can fly to Ercan Airport, but upon arrival, you should request that the entry stamp be on a separate sheet of paper. Keep the paper until you exit Northern Cyprus and the exit stamp should be placed there too. This is to prevent problems with immigration should you try to enter Cyprus via the south in the future. Direct flights to Northern Cyprus all come from Turkey, so you may find it most convenient to book a connecting flight through Istanbul.

  • Do I need to carry local currencies when travelling to Cyprus?

It may be worth exchanging euros before your trip, as it can be more expensive to exchange money at the bureau de change counters in the airport. However, you should not exchange all your pounds for euros if you are going to Northern Cyprus, as they mainly use Turkish lira and you would lose more on the exchange rate if you change from sterling to euro to lira.

  • Is there anything I should note when travelling to Northern Cyprus?

The legal amounts of duty-free goods permitted per person are as follows: 0.5 litre of spirits, two packets of cigarettes (packets of 20) and 1 bottle of wine.

  • Which airlines offer the cheapest flights to Cyprus from London Heathrow Airport (LHR)?

All flights to Cyprus from London Heathrow arrive at Larnaca Airport, and the cheapest flights are usually direct routes operated by British Airways. Sky Express also offers an affordable option that has a single layover at Athens Eleftherios V. Airport (ATH).

  • Which is the best route to Cyprus from Liverpool?

Flights from Liverpool (LPL) to Cyprus always land in Larnaca and they can be a bit costly. All flights from Liverpool to Larnaca have a self-transfer option and often long layovers. You could save both time and money by catching a flight to London Luton and catching a direct flight from Luton to Larnaca. This will work out cheaper and typically take less time if you plan the flights properly.

If you enter Cyprus through the north, bear in mind that the government of the country may consider you to have entered Cyprus through an illegal port of entry. You may be fined when you cross into the south and may face some problem entering and exiting the Republic of Cyprus. Note that you should also exit Cyprus via Larnaca or Paphos airports to avoid legal consequence the next time you enter Cyprus. But you can still choose to enter via the north if you are only going to travel within Northern Cyprus. You can find details on how to best do so in the answer to the second FAQ.
  • When travelling to Cyprus, you are advised to take flights to Cyprus through Larnaca Airport or Paphos Airport in the south. However, if you’re travelling to the north of Cyprus, you are advised to have at least 6 months validity on your passport from your date of entry to the north.
  • The currency used in the southern region is Euro. While in the north, Turkish Liras are used. There are no limitations on the import and export of local or foreign currencies.
  • If you're looking for the quickest and most affordable routes from London, find cheap flights to Cyprus operated by Wizz Air from London Gatwick (LGW) to Larnaca (LCA) Airport. Larnaca Airport is typically the only airport you can catch direct flights from London to.
  • If you're planning on travelling to Paphos Airport (PFO) from Edinburgh, consider booking separate flights from Edinburgh Airport (EDI) to Larnaca Airport and from Larnaca to Paphos to save money. A route from Edinburgh to Paphos is almost twice as costly as booking separate flights.
  • If you're flying from Manchester Airport (MAN), you'll find cheap flights to Cyprus operated by Ryanair and EasyJet. These are both direct flights to Paphos Airport and are the cheapest option available. The travel time for these flights is close to 4h 45min.
  • When trying to find cheap flights to Cyprus, bear in mind the cheapest options are usually self-transfer options, which means having to collect your luggage at your stopover and re-check in.

Seat spacing good ( I am tall), very friendly and competent cabin crew. Good updates from flight deck. Excellent boarding and disembarcation

Generally excellent but a couple of areas could be improved. After boarding we were delayed a full 20 mins whilst various ground crew, flight crew, captain faffed around counting and recounting passengers. Said discrepancy between computer and manual. All OK in the end. So why o why did it take 20 mins to find all OK? No sense of urgency shown Secondly the seat base is just not supportive/resilienfor a 4½ hour journey - backside really aching by journey end.

Waiting for 2 people to come through security that delayed the flight. Everyone else made it on time, should have left without them. Flight was cold.

The staff are just so friendly travelling alone was a bit scary but they made me feel comfortable and nothing was to much bother I loved how one of the girls was talking to the old ladies she really took time thank you jet2 shame I can’t get home with u guys 🥲

Crew was nice. Plane was crowded, Seats wouldn’t lean back. No free treats or drinks (not even water).

The flight was over an hour late taking off. Air traffic control on the outward flight caused the delay. Horrendous passport queue at Malaga. Families with children must dread it. Another Brexit negative

On time flight. Reasonable comfortable but a bit cramped. Excellent jet 2 staff as usual.

This is my second flight with jet 2. Both been great - lovely helpful staff. Will fly with you again

Felt very cramped, seat quality poor and temp way too warm with little ventilation. Persistent ramming of duty free ‘bargains’ donut throats. Food & drink service glacially slow.

A good flight with friendly crew and check-in but disembarking was chaotic and badly managed

You need to make signage at Berlin Airport clearer. Having checked in online we had our boarding passes onlour phones. You do not make it clear that you need to check in again to receive a printed luggage tag. You get to baggage drop off and it says you can only do it with a luggage tag BUT not how to get this.

We were bumped despite seats existing on flight While checkin attendants were helpful Easyjet management was not. Only after threats were we allowed on plane at last minute. The online help desk was useless and waste of time (over an hour of useless chats)

Sitting on the last row in between the aisle and a massive person, all people going to the bathroom bumped into me including the flight attendants.

Sat at rear of aircraft and was very cold. As a frequent flyer for many years, this is was the coldest I have ever been. Other passengers and some crew were complaining how cold it was. Sitting near the doors always risks being colder, just the way the aircraft works - but this was exceptional, bring a good jumper. Everything else was pretty standard easyJet - good value low cost carrier.

The best budget airline in Europe. Flight was on time, crew friendly and worked hard during flight and were able to meet our needs. Only downside (not the airline's fault), there were no rear steps.

It was transportation nothing more. I will give a positive rating over Ryanair. We missed our Ryanair flight the night before and received rude and unconcerned treatment from the Ryanair customer service. It was late. We were very tired and stressed after doing our best to get to the airport. The so called customer service ladies were completely unconcerned from the start. Aside from that, the flight to London seemed to be their opportunity for advertising. No time to relax as attendants were constantly in the aisle selling. I will never fly Ryanair again!!

Boarding and disembarking were smooth. Not offering free water was cheap ... I've never encountered that before on a flight.

Boarding could be better. To get through your gate but to be stood in a corridor for 20 minutes is not great.

The true is that travel from London to Faro on 11/12/2025 by BA was cancelled, so I did not go to Faro, so i did not board easy flight. The mediocre qualification to you was because even when i bought an insurance, i could not change date neither obtain reimbursement. It could be ideal if you do something in order for me not to lose the purchase Thank you

Queuing for quite a while despite using the "speedy boarding".

Low-cost airline. Airbus A-320 and 321 series are not comfortable on flights taking more than 3 hours. Seats are uncomfortable. Very limited foot space, especially when having a bag under the seat in front of you.

Typical wizzair flight, nothing special , but as there were flight in the evening we got sandwiches with 50% discount. Terminal wizzair is using is awful. Separate from normal airport, no duty free and only one cafe. Also was late for more than 2 hours but we didn’t got any food or water vouchers.

Timely departures and arrivals. The seat was slightly forward leaning which made it uncomfortable

Flight was delayed by two hours and we then sat on the runway for another 40 minutes and circled Gatwick twice making it 3 hours later landing this is very poor compared to all the other operators I’ve flown with the outbound flight was an hour late

There were not enough staff and signage to direct people to Wizz Priority lanes for check-in and boarding. It didn't feel like we were Wizz Priority holders.

Had to pay £45 to check in at the airport because I didn't check-in online at least 3 hours prior... and it wasn't mentioned on the booking / App (online check-in is only marked as "included service"). Upon landing, captain failed to land the first attempt and had to take off again for an re-attempt. Overall mid experience, would definitely pay a bit more at first to avoid this again.

Two of our boarding details were missing and they wanted to charge us 84 pounds for that, although it was totally their fault

They boarded us despite knowing we wouldn’t be taking off for another hour and boarded us into a plane who’s air conditioning was not working properly. So we were sat in a hot plane for an hour with no access to the bathroom getting hotter and hotter. A little bit of communication between the teams would have avoided this.

I planned to be working during the flight but next to and in front of me there was a family (basically all around me) who had screaming kids all the way long and they were rude and the kid was kicking me as well and constantly wanted to grab my phone etc. I was so pissed, I didn't think they will travel priority so I didn't think they'll sit next to me but they did. I asked the crew if there is a chance for me to go to another seat far away from there...And they were so kind, immediately after take off they showed a seat for me that is far away from these people. I'm so grateful for this!!! I hate that I cannot figure out these things in advance. I WOULD BE HAPPY TO PAY MORE IN ADVANCE TO MAKE SURE THERE ARE NO FAMILIES W KIDS AROUND ME!!!!

Brand new aircraft Airbus 321neo, good seats although no recline (so no arguments with other passengers). Orderly boarding using front and rear aircraft doors for efficiency. Departed on time and artived 25min early. During check in, ground staff are very strict about permitted baggage and carry-on weight and size - you're only allowed what you paid for. Onboard food and beverage prices are a bit high but similar to airport coffee shops.

Everything was spectacular except the boarding. It was just a mob of people while all groups were called over the public address system.

BA code for a Vueling flight. All god but the temperature in the plane (too hot when engine not running but otherwise ok)

The Britts are wonderful to fly with and the crew were very hospitable. Again, I really wish they had been able to retrieve my carryon bag from baggage claim before the flight so I could be in a less worrisome state of mind, but that's not on them. I completely understand. The window seats with the dimmable windows were very cool!

There was a delay for the San Francisco-London flight, but we were all informed via text and email. The staff was very friendly and nice and the food was good. I do recommend that the airline offer something without eggs or something vegan for the vegetarian meal option. A lot of Indians are lacto-vegetarian, while some could be allergic to eggs/dairy.

food options were terrible. for a 10-hour flight, there should be 2 decent meals. Also, flight attendants should come around with drinks more than just at the meals.

Smooth flight. The seats were comfortable but the reclining mechanism didn't work very well. My wife's seat required the flight attendant to push the seat forward while she pushed the button. The leg support didn't want to return to its home under the seat. I ordered the diabetic meal which was full of carbs. It was low in sugar but carbs turn into sugar so was it really diabetic? Overall the flight was pleasant, long but pleasant.

Crew were nice, food was good. Boarding was horrendous. We were driven around the airport in a bus forced to climb a long flight of very steep stairs with no adequate handrails to board the plane . In many many years of flying to the US I have never been required to do this . There was no assistance for those needing help getting up the stairs to the plane. A fellow passenger helped me. No idea how other elderly, physically limited passengers or those with young children managed . It was a full flight with crowds trying to get up the stairs. It was an accident waiting to happen.

Food options limited and quality wasn’t very good. I was I was in premium economy and the people in front of me pushed their seats back to fully reclined position which made it difficult for me. My seat wouldn’t recline at all. I suggest that BA restrict the recliner more. Also, the audio in my headset didn’t work unless I held it in all the time. Entertainment choices were good. Customer services is excellent. Thank you to BA team.

Horrible, the plane is just old and junky...Filthy restroom, seat was as hard as rock. The food, mystery side dish, inedible..geez..just Horrible. Never flying BA again

Club Europe is always lovely. I really enjoy everything about it. One thing that has changed in recent years though, is the swap to Prosecco from Champagne in the lounges. This is really disappointing. I really don’t like Prosecco, and always looked forward to a lovely glass of champagne in the lounge. Is it possible to change back? It does make the whole experience a little more of a luxury experience.

Missed slot to leave so we were on the plane for an extra hour. The seats were really uncomfortable and the food was poor. The experience makes me think twice about flying as I suspect they are all similar.

Fine, charter flights. Plane full, and staff nice and friendly. No option for free food or drink. Entertainment through paid app.

The 737-8 is too small for the length of flight especially if there are any delays

The flight was delayed over 2 hours, we should off left the plane2 late passengers as it’s not fair on everyone who’s followed the rules.

Dreamliner. Yes great if maintained. I didn't see anyones screen work consistently during either of our flights. Worse was their ability to not only dump you out of premium but separate couples and seat someone's carer at the opposite end of the aircraft. This poor gentleman had no hand so his partner who assists him, being seated at the other end of the aircraft, well that really showed us all what Tui think :( It was fairly dire all in all, they advertise all the perks of the dreamliner only in reality you don't have the features and they change the windows and colours to suit their constant sales pitches. Ironically they were so low on stock for the return flight that all their sales pitches were a waste of time! Their contract only favours them and 'operational changes' well they cover every excuse and Tui use it. Surprisingly we haven't reinstalled the Tui app or booked with them since. It's a shame as I rated them highly during the pandemic.

One flight attendant not wearing a mask over nose, 50% of passengers not either, and no effort to correct. Boarding was very late with no information - lots of standing around waiting.
